any idea why my monitor will randomly get like blurred slighly on one area? fixed by turning it off and on again
I looked at doing such a thing, and I don't know where to start. I did look into getting a basic loop that cooled only the processor and added it up to be around $300 in parts.
Yeah, for a quality loop you're looking a bit over 200. 150 for a not so quality.

I'd say that it isn't worth it unless I had a 2011-3 CPU, as those are rated at a higher power output. Or if I were doing extreme overclocking with my 4690K, but I lost my motherboard to that just last month, so I'm not going there unless I get a good board.
Which anti-virus do you guys recommend? I've heard Avast and AVG thrown around a lot.

Defender
And Malwarebytes
From there you just need not do anything stupid

Soundcloud offers a variety of free downloads for legal, copyright free music and that is clearly what you are talking about. Right?

It depends on the card. If it has a lot of RAM, a higher resolution monitor, say 2560x1440, would be good. If you play shooters and fast paced games, a high frame rate monitor like an ASUS VG248QE would be best, if your card can handle it.

My card is a Geforce 970. Is that good enough for a Asus monitor? I was thinking about buying a g-sync monitor since my card is g-sync compatible but I'm still wondering if it's worth the investment.

G-sync is really expensive for nearly no difference

Makes quite a big difference actually. Still very expensive.

Yes a 970 is good enough for a 1440p or a g-sync monitor. You'll likely have to choose between one or the other unless you want to go stupid expensive.

...if you have issues with regular vsync.
If you never go below 60fps anyway and your game doesn't microstutter it doesn't do anything.

No.... I in general makes things appear smoother at lower frame rates, which allows you to push settings further than usual.

Oh, yeah I suppose that's a way of looking at it.
If however you set out to have everything maxed at 60fps anyway, then it doesn't do anything.

In that case you get tearing and thus vsync is usually on and thus stutter from the specific capping of vsync that gsync can fix.
I'm picking up a freesync monitor sometime soon. Hopefully nvidia gives up at some point and just implements it into their drivers instead of pushing a more expensive hardware based solution with licensing fees.
ok so I've had this weird issue for a few months. When I alt-tab out of a game, or start one up my screen goes black and all sound gets cut off, and then everything returns after a few seconds but this isn't supposed to happen and I honestly don't know why it's doing this.
anyone ever experience something similar?

Sounds like you might be running a non native resolution. If not try borderless gaming.
Yeah, I run everything at 1920x1080, my native resolution, and DSR is turned off.
I'll give that tool a try.

G-sync is really amazing if you are using a 144Hz monitor since most AAA titles are not going to run at 144 fps consistently at anything above low settings.
quick lil head scratcher for you guys, My brother and I both have Wired connections but a few times a day his internet will just disconnect and the only way to fix it is to reboot his whole system, any ideas?
Switch the cables around and see if the problem moves with it
I've got a relatively new (like about a year old) PC that I've been using ethernet to wire up to the internet. Next year I'm moving to a place where it will be highly impractical to get a wire from the router to the machine so I guess I'll have to go wireless. My motherboard is an ASUS Maximus Ranger 7 so I've been looking at this wireless card:

Do you think it would work/be suitable?
Is a 256 GB SSD with enough bad sectors to make it 236 GB a terrible purchase? Even only for $70 CAD?
Is a 256 GB SSD with enough bad sectors to make it 236 GB a terrible purchase? Even only for $70 CAD?
How do you mean? And any bad sectors is a bad purchase.
Huh, here's a question for you guys. I built my PC 3 years ago, and decided to water cool the CPU and GPU. Recently though, I've been getting random power offs several times in a row.
Under load my temps hover around 41-45C for the R7970 GPU and 61-64C for the 3570K CPU.
Last night playing Fallout NV I got my first power off, thought maybe it was something wonky with a mod and played again. Not 10 minutes later, another power off. I ran Prime95 and started Kombuster to strain my CPU and GPU. Sure enough, it powered off within 5 minutes.
I ran just Prime95 last night and left it alone, and fell asleep. Here are the logs:
Critical event 41, kernal-power @ 8/8/15, 12:03 AM - at this point it reset itself, no more prime95 running
then the same event @ 8/8/15, 1:27 AM - just idling
again at 8/8/15, 1:33 AM, 2:55 AM and 2:58 AM just idling on the desktop.
I don't know what happened after 2:58 AM, I woke up and came upstairs to find the computer completely powered off. I assumed somebody in my house turned it off, but thats not the case.
Running memtest right now, most google searches point to a faulty PSU. Ideas?
Which anti-virus do you guys recommend? I've heard Avast and AVG thrown around a lot.
Use Avira or Avast.
If you care about an antivirus slowing down your system, Avast and Avira are more efficient and less resource-intensive than Windows Defender.

If you care about security, Avast and Avira are better than windows defender.

I frankly think when test after test after test shows that Avast and Avira are better than Windows Defender in every single scenario, you're stupid to continue using it. If you care about security, don't use Defender. If you care about speed, don't use Defender. I don't understand why people keep recommending it.
