Is Samsung's Data Migration program for moving/cloning a hard drive reliable, or is there a better one I should use? I am getting a Samsung 850 Evo, so I'd assume that it's preferable to use the proprietary program?
What are the minimum CPU/GPU combo for two 2560x1440 monitors?
No gaming, just web stuff.
Anybody know of any good free video editing software that can do things like video over another video (multi-track?) and zooming into video?
windows 10, or even 8/8.1 never worked with my usb 3 drivers, and the intel usb 3.0 extensible host driver isn't available for anything past windows 7, so i have essentially 2 dead ports on the front of the pc i'd really like to use, but i can't cause apparently there's no drivers for it.
i heard win10 comes with it's own usb3.0 driver but it's not doing anything
help?

Have a look at AMD APUs.

Okay, maybe not good, but at least something that's free which accomplishes what I mentioned.

I ordered a laptop from XOTIC PC recently.
But just now I found a thread on reddit where people were bad mouthing their service, my confidence in them is dwindling and I don't know where I should ask for a cancellation/refund or not.
Has anyone had any experience with ordering from XOTIC PC? edit: help these reviews are making me sick to my stomach.
edit: I feel a bit more confident about them now after hearing from the guy who recommended them to me, but if anyone has something to say please say it.

Ive never ordered anything from this company or used this company. But as a customer you have every right to cancel an order, and if it is too late to cancel it, you have 15 days to issue an RMA return. With most returns, you'll have to pay for shipping fees and if it is a custom skin/build you'll probably have to pay a fee for restocking.

Definitely true. I was afraid I'd have to pay a ginormous fee if that were the case but I think at most, if I cancelled in within the next day or so, I'd have to pay only 3%.
I'm not leaning towards canceling anymore but I still want to hear about any experiences people have had with them.
I've personally never used them, but my old roommate did and he had zero problems.
I asked this in another thread, but this seems a better place to ask actually :v:
I'm looking for a gaming laptop around $500 bucks that can play things like Gzdoom/other stuff that uses OpenGL (with resource intensive mods like Brutal Doom) and other old-oldish games (like dos era and half life 2 era games). I want to be able to max it out or at least get close. I'm not expecting to run games like Crysis on it, I just want something to play classic games and mods until I can get back to using my actual pc.
Also, if possible I'd prefer it to use AMD graphics just because that is what I'm used to, but I'll use an Nvidia one if I gotta
I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this but I'm paranoid as hell, so:
Extremely rapid ticking from a mechanical hard drive while it's doing read and/or write ops is normal, and the fact that it sounds kind of like the house is creaking is just me being stupid, right?
Can half broken headphones lead to delay between video and audio?
Can half broken headphones lead to delay between video and audio?
I can't think of any way that they could, unless they're USB headphones. And even then, I'd suspect something was up with the player rather than the headphones.
Simple check - use them with something else. Like a computer, phone, CD player if you still have one. If there's a delay on several different systems using the same headphones, but no delay on those same systems with different headphones, then that's clearly the problem.

How do I stop the low pitched hum from my hard drive? pressing the tray against the hard drive seems to stop it but holding my hand there 24/7 seems impractical, Is it safe to put some chunky foam underneath it to dampen the noise?
Anyone got any experience with this?

I'd rather get modmic, but it's $80 in Australia so I'm seeking alternatives.
hi guys
how would I go about setting up a proxy on my ubuntu 14.04 server so I can access blocked websites externally?
I've tried using a socks proxy but i haven't gotten it working

My current desktop is a pre-built from XOTIC PC (back when I didn't know how to build computers). Their service was prompt and the computer itself has been running fantastically for two years so far with no complaints. You have to remember that people tend to speak out more if they have something negative to say. A lot of people treat service reviews like they're a complaints section instead. My experience with them has been pretty good; they're a good retailer.
Now onto my question: at what point should my computer's temperature be a cause for concern? Speccy says my GPU (a GTX 680) idles at around 43-45 degrees Celsius. My CPU (an i7 3770k @ 3.5 GHz) idles at 45-50 degrees. But certain games can make my GPU go to the high 50s and my CPU can exceed 60 (!!!). I have stock cooling, so it's understandable I suppose, but I'm not sure if I should be worried? And if I should, what can I do to help cool my computer without breaking the bank by buying some new cooling system?

The Lenovo Y40 is occasionally $500 refurb and $600 new if you check SlickDeals.net every once in a while, and will run modern games fine.
You can find the last-gen Y40-70s for within your price range on eBay, or the newer Y40-80s for min. $650 on Lenovo's website. They do have pretty meh screens, but the specs are solid.

High temps for modern computers are in the 90s for the GPU and CPU. You got nothing to worry about.

I've got this cable internet router
http://wiki.openwrt.org/_media/media/toh/cisco/epc3825case1.jpg?w=400&h=200&tok=6d8ad8
using this sort of cable
http://www.ezyhd-cables.com.au/tv-cable-f-to-f.jpg
that I need to plug into the left socket (presumably)
http://i.imgur.com/zVNBx2N.jpg
Staff at Clas Ohlson said I need to remove one of the ends of the cable and replace with a regular TV end, and that they have no adaptors for that sort of thing. Is there such an adaptor, or do I need to modify the cable end? Will be going tomorrow to the ISP from whom I got the router to ask, but wanted to check here first if someone's had the same problem and/or knows the solution.

I have one and it's excellent, especially for it's price. It's pretty clear, but does pick up some background noise.

Your ISP providing the cable modem service should've provided you with a splitter/filter.
It also handily presents the DATA/MODEM line as the screw-socket type.
And traditional adapters that aren't filters nor splitters do exist.

Thanks, will have to go shout gib adaptor at Sonera when I get the chance.
What is the absolute maximum temperature according to HWMonitor that my FX-6350 should hit? I usually get between 65c~72c in very CPU intensive games and 60c~65c (sometimes spikes to 72c) with lots of Chrome tabs on and a Twitch stream at 720p60.
I'm using the stock cooler, I also need to clean my computer.
For the record, can I use an air compressor to get rid of dust inside my computer? What precautions should I take aside from obviously keeping a distance and not using extreme pressure?

Sounds about average. AMD stock coolers kinda suck.
Also, make sure to purge the line of any moisture or contaminate by just firing it off somewhere else first, and don't shoot the air compressor directly at a fan because you can make them spin faster than designed and kill them.
Otherwise, you could just an old toothbrush or something.

I would clean it the old traditional way of tearing the heatsink apart and brushing it and the fan with a small paintbrush or toothbrush or whatever, but I don't have thermal paste lying around. Plus, shooting the shit out of my computer with air and seeing big drops of dust flying out sounds fun :v:
Thanks for the advice.
edit: HWMonitor doesn't look very reliable. Right now the temperature is averaging 62c but, for some reason, sometimes it spikes to 70c for a second and almost instantly comes back down even though the fan speed is exactly the same and the load is exactly the same. How come?
