Is an old Q6600 still viable for gaming? I broke down some old desktops laying around and I have this processor and 8gb of ram, I'm thinking about putting a mid range graphics card in it and playing on it. I currently game on my laptop (first gen i5 2.3ghz, 4gb ram and an ATI 6750M). I'd like to play things like TF2, Gta 4, Rust or ARK survival with friends but they're just too laggy on this laptop.
If I slap a more modern card in this desktop will I be alright?

I have a Q8300 and it has problems with overheating (hitting 75 or 80c) when playing rust, but that may just be my cooler. The games you're planning on playing should run fine on it.
What's a good video editing software? I'm looking for something that can trim gameplay clips and encode them into a format that youtube doesn't fuck up. I'm also using an OBS branch that supports AMD's VCE, is there a better recording software in terms of performance:quality and user friendliness?
recording: dxtory
editing: Sony Vegas
I have a ThinkPad T61p (15.4" 1920x1200 version) which suffers from overheating problems. I've seen people have it run at 30-40*c-ish idle, for me it always runs at 55-60*c idle and has massive overheating issues when I try and do anything, browsing the internet can make it heat up to 70-80*c.
I have redone the thermal paste on several occasions, I've used AS5 and also used Arctic MX-4, tried putting thermal padding on, tried swapping the fan. Even updated the BIOS to the most recent in hopes for better fan control or speedstepping. Basically I have done absolutely everything I could think of, and none of it has helped at all whatsoever.
If you have a bluetooth headset that's not originally for computers, can you get a bluetooth dongle on a pc and connect to it? I've never used bluetooth on a pc before.

Sure, but some dongles have better drivers than others.
So find one with good recent consumer reviews, and preferable also supports bluetooth 4.0 or better
A good and cheap Intel processor for Arma 3?
Doing a lot of smaller photos with my iPhone and daily I have to put pictures from it to my Windows Desktop and put it into a backup drive through Lightroom.
Does anyone know a good solution for getting your iPhone pictures to your Windows computer, without actually having to do much?
Automatic Wifi transfers would be neat, but probably a tad slow.
Anyone know any great automatic solutions?

What's you definition of cheap? I'd say the 4460.
I hope some of you guys can help me.
I have a Define R5 case and the front USB ports are not working properly. When I plug something in it tells me "Device not recognized or faulty device" so I can't use anything in those ports. Both the USB 2.0 and the 3.0 ports are affected. The back ports are working fine.
Device manager shows everything working properly.
I tried googling but found no solution.

are the front usb headers of your case plugged into the right header ports on your motherboard? you should use your motherboards manual as a guide on how to do them.
if that is not the case then I'm not sure.
hey anyone know a way i can transfer my windows 10 from my hdd to a ssd without completely cloning the source drive? or without reinstalling windows entirely?
Just got a new Logitech G930 wireless headset the other day, it keeps turning itself off. Battery is full, within three feet of the adapter, not bumping the power button on the set itself or the USB cable for the adapter, always have at least music playing, if not a game and/or Skype going. Any ideas?

I have a g930 and it has basically the same problem. it's a pretty garbage headset for $100+, try connecting the adapter on a usb port straight on the motherboard itself, as the winding usb cable it comes with is also garbage.

The light on the adapter never goes out, so I don't think that's the problem, but will try it regardless.
[editline]And barely fifteen minutes later...[/editline]
Nope, no dice, just shut off again. Thanks for trying at least.
Sometimes, I'll be watching a YouTube video or something and all of a sudden, one by one, my USB connected device shut down, including my WiFi adapter (I just have a desktop with no WiFi compatibility.) Should I be worried?

hard to say what the problem is, since the thing is full of them. i basically have to leave mine plugged in all the time for it to work at all. sometimes i can get about an hour out of it going wireless.
So I'm cloning my HDD onto an SSD, I got up to 76% when I'm met with an error saying that my HDD has "Bad Sectors".
Using checkdisk, I'm told that there's nothing wrong with the HDD, but CrystalDisk says that something is wrong with the "Current Pending Sector Count". What should I do so I don't wait for the cloning process to just error out again?

Yeah, leaving it plugged in to the charger seems to be keeping it from going out. Granted, that sorta defeats the purpose of a wireless headset. Oh well, at least it's working.
Did anyone else's calendar on Win10 just reset? My accounts are still added but the ones I initially hid are shown again. Plus, for some reason it won't sync with events that occurred prior to August.

Would an i7 2600k 3.4 Ghz be good enough?
Would an i7 2600k 3.4 Ghz be good enough?
Definitely. Though boards that support it are becoming more scarce.

Then, maybe a I7 4770k?
Then, maybe a I7 4770k?
Unless it's an old Core 2 Duo or anything weaker than an i3, it should handle the vast majority of games just fine. A decent quad core like the i5 4460 (i5 4440 if you want to save even more with a minor performance loss) will be more than enough for ArmA 3.
I've noticed defrag programs just move fragments around. At 0% fragmentation, my hard drive still moves the head around when loading a large game. This could be due to the fact that files very related to each other (in that they are in the same directory and will likely be loaded for a game at the same time) are still spread out across the drive. Individual files are all found in one piece, but directories are fragmented.
So my question: Is there some kind of defrag program that will rearrage files on the HD based on context, like residing directory or date-last-accessed?
My friend sent me this picture of his monitor. He was just watching youtube videos and the screen got like this.

It works in safe mode but normal mode he gets nothing.
Google says video drivers or that it's broken. Gonna try check video drivers via safe mode or try switch to an older card and see if that works. If it does not work with any of that. Trash?

A question of my own - for a few months my HDD has had 50 GB free reported by both File Explorer and WinDirStat. I turn my computer on this morning to find 250 GB free, reported consistently across everything. How could this have happened?

IIRC, Defraggler lets you choose how it "optimizes" the drive, where that just means that it will defrag your system like normal, then you can choose to have it order files by either most recent use, most commonly used, or other options.
Was playing a game and my drivers went into a stopped responding/recovered loop.
The screen never went black, it just froze in place. It started slow but after a little I couldn't do anything. Should I assume the worst and prepare to RMA my (now about half a year old) 970 gtx card, or could it geniunely be a driver issue?

Just ran 3DMark without issue/normal scores, so i'm hoping for the best
You could manually reinstall the drivers and choose to do a "Clean installation", which gets rid of any previous drivers' that may have lingering effects. Note that is will normally delete your custom profiles for games that you may have made using Nvidia GeForce/Nvidia Inspector.
