Got Windows 10, but it goes to a black screen after I log in and get a five minute opening to do what ever before the screen goes black. Chrome works if I open it first, and settings too unless that's open first. Task manager is okay as well. Any remedies/solutions for this problem?
Is there any program compatible with windows 10 that allows the immediate preview of a sound file on hover or first click? I need to go through a ton of audio files for a video and anything more than one click to hear a file would be too much.
Are LGA 1155 coolers compatible with a LGA 1151 board? I'm gonna be doing a massive overhaul of my system in a months time and I was wondering If I can save some money by reusing my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus.

So it should work no problem.
anyone know a reliable way to reduce the sensitivity or disable an axis on a controller (either wired 360 or ps4) i tried x360ce but it doesnt seem to work in game

I've noticed at random times, especially later in the evening, my internet will just slow to an absolute crawl. Command line pinging will almost always time out, and when it doesn't it'll reach pings over 600+ms. The internet still seems to function, but at incredibly slowed speeds. I did a Speedtest to illustrate it a bit further www.speedtest.net/result/4606142357.png Eventually, it goes back to normal, but it comes up at the strangest times. The last time this happened wasn't for weeks by my count. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

More than likely though you're at the mercy of your ISP shitness at peak traffic times.
My Windows Update fails every time I try to install a certain update that helps my system security. It gave me a code when it failed, which was 80070BC9. Anyone know what's happening?
So I got plans to build a new PC, and I'm unsure which Windows OS to choose. Is paying for Windows 10 Pro worth it, or should I go with Windows 8.1 instead? Windows 10 is pretty expensive over here.
Why spend so much extra money on a Pro version?
Because my main concern is that Windows 10 Home forces you to download and install updates, which I am against. I have had Windows updates break my Windows 7 PC before.
Pro does too. Just enterprise/Windows updates for Business program that allows you to choose.
We can't even add my computer to our WSUS server. It detects it about 50% of the time as existing, but we can't do anything with it.
most definitely a graphics driver issue, go into safe mode and uninstall/update your drivers
Is going into Safe Mode different on 10 than on 7? How would I uninstall my Radeon HD 6970 card and other drivers? Through 'uninstall program'?
Pro does too. Just enterprise/Windows updates for Business program that allows you to choose.
You can set the old settings via Group Policy in Pro. I have it set to notify me before download/install, and it just dings on login and gives me a toast.
I feel like this is a really stupid question, but I don't wanna waste money without asking it first. Would a USB splitter support multiple xbox 360 controllers out of a USB 3.0 slot?
I feel like this is a really stupid question, but I don't wanna waste money without asking it first. Would a USB splitter support multiple xbox 360 controllers out of a USB 3.0 slot?
Yes. And the 3.0 isn't necessary - input devices generally run in low-speed (1.5Mbit) mode anyways, so even a 1.1 port would work. Also, for future reference, the thing you're looking for is normally called a USB hub, since it's an active device. It doesn't really matter but it makes it clearer what you're talking about.
So I have a quick question, why are there megathreads for keyboards, mice, headphones, but not for monitors?
No one made one.
Should be done by opening Device Manager and clicking on Display Adapters, right click on the GPU, select Uninstall, and make sure drivers get uninstalled as well.
K. So after I uninstall my gpu drivers, i go back to regular mode and install new versions? Just a hunch, since Safe Mode disables internet access.
K. So after I uninstall my gpu drivers, i go back to regular mode and install new versions? Just a hunch, since Safe Mode disables internet access.
FYI you can boot into Safe Mode with Networking, but yes, that's usually how its done.
-snip- figured it out, I couldn't merge the OS partition with the unallocated space because they weren't next to one another on the partition table, so I moved the unallocated space over and merged them perfectly fine. On a different note, are there any SSD optimizations I should know about? I've looked at the ones posted on r/buildapc, but hopefully you guys know of more. Lastly, are there optimized partition sizes for the EFI, Recovery, and Restore partitions? I also have a Primary partition and a second unnamed Primary Partition, is there a reason for this? (Also sorry for so many dumb questions recently, this is the first time I've replaced and cloned a hard drive and I really don't want to screw anything up)
So, I'm going to university in a month, and I'm looking at laptops for general use + gaming, with a budget of about £600-700 (I'm not particularly bothered about running games at max-ultra etc, just running them well). I'm looking at the MSI GP60-2QE D 15.6-Inch version (Intel Core i5-4210H 2 cores 2.6 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, Nvidia GeForce 940M) at the moment, but has anyone been in a similar situation and has any recommendations for other laptops? Also, as a brand, now reputable is MSI? And is it safe to assume, that even if it isn't outright stated, that a laptop with more than 4gb of RAM uses a 64bit OS?
I installed a gtx 970 instead of my old 580 and now when I play something, there's a weird flickering / waves in the dark areas, it's especially noticable if I go into steam overlay or something. I'm certain it's not driver issues, I've tried to do all sort of stuff with them but that didn't help. All of the cords seem to be fine and that didn't happen before I installed the new gpu anyway. Is it the PSU's fault? I actually used to have a similar problem with the monitor a loooong time ago but it was way worse back then and I just changed the socket for the power cord of the monitor and that fixed it, but now it doesn't.

A few days ago, about 200 GB of free space opened up on my HDD during a reboot. No data was lost, how could this have happened?
Ok I thought something wasn't adding up but after ripping out half the shit from my hdd something is seriously messed up my 1tb drive has 100 gb free and adding up all of the folders from the root directory only gives me around 330 gb what the fuck is going on
So I have an audio/video HDMI cable for my TV, and whenever I play certain games the audio just completely shuts off as if the HDMI cable wasn't plugged in at all. An example is, it works fine if I play Bastion or Nuclear Throne, but if I turn on Tales from the Borderlands, it stops working completely. Google can't seem to help me with this problem, so I'll just post it here and see if anyone can.
anyone have an idea on how to fix the "ERR_SPDY_PROTOCOL_ERROR" on chrome? A lot of the time when I visit sites the force HTTPS/SSL reddit tumblr gmail yadda yadda yadda it gives me that message for a couple minutes before a reload fixes it I have the switches "--use-spdy=off --use-system-ssl" in chromes launch properties but so far that hasn't done diddly and it's starting to drive me nuts
Is there better gameplay recording software than Shadowplay? I like Shadowplay's simplicity but the fact that it records in variable framerate means footage I record with it is useless in Adobe Premiere due to the audio sync going nuts.
If I throw a Shadowplay recorded clip into Premiere and export it, the audio goes out of sync over time because Premiere doesn't properly support clips with a variable framerate. Currently the solution is to run Shadowplay clips through software like Handbrake to reencode it with a constant framerate, but that just feels counterintuitive.
