No. Those was old DV6s, we are talking about new series of dv6, I own one and it is really not bad at all.

Unless the new series came out within 6 or so months, my friend's is still a heat generator, and his is only 7 months old.

Actually, a new version did come out around last April, I got mine (the i7 version) around may and I've had no problems with it overheating or anything.
I sell laptops.
All dv'6 sound like they are taking off ideling in the store.
The new ones dont come back for repairs alot tough so they improved on that.
Please, get a laptop with some decent airflow. I've been gaming on a MacBook Pro for almost two years. It ran well at first, but after a few months it hits 100C too often. I've been using a Dell XPS 15 for a couple of months and the cooling is so much better. The notebook is kind of bulky, but it's definitely worth it. Performance + cooling over design.
I was actually looking at the XPS 15 not to long ago, however, this laptop is HUNDREDS of dollars cheaper and has a much better graphics card. The XPS boasts a quality build (decent airflow like you mentioned), amazing sound, processing and etc, but it's very expensive, and hard to find in retailers (don't want to purchase online).
[editline]4th October 2011[/editline]
Also, on HP's website in the DV6 section, it states exactly this:
" 'Intelligent Cooling' System
HP has pioneered new designs that make your notebook noticeably cooler. With HP CoolSense technology, you can simply set your comfort preference and the intelligent software will automatically adjust cooling so that you can work in optimum comfort."
It seems they do care about the laptop's heat..

Ive got a DV6, im happy with it. The only time it gets a bit hot is when im playing GTA IV on it. Otherwise it runs relativity cool. With the Dust cleaning, i dont know since ive only had it for about 3 weeks

They make air flow under your palm rests that their "intelligent"cooling system.
HP Pavilion dv
Sure it would probably run it, but HP makes such bad laptops it will probably overheat and die in a few months.
Even more of a reason not to get the HP, they've declared they're going out of the hardware business and you will lose support eventually.
Well, I've considered all of your opinions. Still deciding what to do. I can't find any other decent laptops (considering my budget).
Give me a bit and i'll update this post with some options.
Assuming your budget is $900 since the dv6 you posted was $829...

Do newegg ship overseas? Also, not really looking to buy online, so the price might be a little more expensive.

Really annoyed that HP won't sort out all these problems. I've now read complaints about HP from multiplesources. These laptops really have potential. I can't find any other quality laptops that are cheap. >:l
[editline]6th October 2011[/editline]
Also, my second option is the Dell XPS 15. I haven't heard any complaints about the laptop so far. It is $200 more, has a better processor and hard drive, although the graphics card isn't as powerful. I guess I don't really need that much power to run a game like Skyrim.
Third option is the Satellite P750/02J Notebook.

Advice?
Do you intentionally pick bad brands or..?
Do you intentionally pick bad brands or..?
Do you intentionally misunderstand the definition of personal preferences? Why don't you suggest something next time? These are the only affordable laptops I have found.
Someone suggest a laptop then. I can't really find any with a quality graphics card that are in my price range.
Maybe because you're looking for a budget gaming laptop.
I can't find any other decent laptops
The HP Pavilion dv6 is not a decent laptop.
Maybe because you're looking for a budget gaming laptop.
I'm not sure what graphics cards would run the game smooth enough. The dv6 is the only laptop around my budget with a strong enough video card. I really don't want to pay extra for a downgrade.
Then you should wait until required system specs are released.
The HP Pavilion dv6 is not a decent laptop.
I think we've established that already.

You seem to like your Asus laptops, so I was wondering if this would be alright:
http://www.asus.com.au/Notebooks/Multimedia_Entertainment/N61Jq/
http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC6424/asus-n61-16-quot-notebook
Intel Core i7 @ 1.60 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.80 GHz + ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730. Remaining specs are fairly similar to the dv6 and won't affect gaming much anyway.
The 5730 doesn't seem too bad.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5730.23825.0.html
Also, I actually think the graphics card will be fine. I don't plan on doing a lot of heavy gaming, just running games like Skyrim, Portal 2 or TF2.
Another Asus option (you already posted this above I think):
http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC7785/asus-n53sn-2gg-sxo12v-notebook
Basically swapping the i7 720QM : 1.60 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.80 GHz for an i5 2410M @ 2.3GHz with turbo boost up to 2.9GHz and the 5730 for a 2GB DDR3 NVIDIA GT550M.
I checked notebookcheck.net and they both ran fairly similar:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-550M.42264.0.html (550M)
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-5730.23825.0.html (5730)
I'm favouring the N53 (550M)
Might I ask why you're wanting to buy a laptop for gaming? That's like buying a prius to drag race with.

I wouldn't really call it a "gaming" laptop, I only plan on playing a few games on it. More like a "multimedia" laptop.
