That HAS to be illegal. Fake reports to trick you into buying software.
I don't think it is really fake because on download.com it says it has a 28 day trial if i remember correctly.
I did some investigation. I think lf751 is screwed.

PGWARE Customer Support: Hello
Alex: Hello.
Alex: I recently got an email from PGware
Alex: Apparently they have detected that I have installed Gamegain on a system I never did
Alex: Now they say they want to press charges.
Alex: After a bit of research, this whole report is fake.
Alex: http://www.pgware.com/piracy/report/?product=gamegain&ip=86.172.182.16
PGWARE Customer Support: One moment I will take a look
PGWARE Customer Support: The report is genuine, someone logged in with the ip 86.172.182.16 has used an illegal version of GameGain
Alex: No they have not. This computer is my office computer, the case itself is locked, it has an password, and my hard drive is encrypted. And what makes the entire event impossible is that I am using Linux. That is my IP.
Alex: Of that computer
PGWARE Customer Support: I can assure you it has occurred, give me one minute and I will provide you with the actual webserver logs
PGWARE Customer Support: I am parsing the logs right now and will copy and paste each entry here

Alex: Hm, well looks like I have a problem. I will have to take this up with the office (it's a firm), probably one of the employee's. Thank you for bringing this to my assistance, hopefully this can be resolved.

They won't sue you. It's a scare tactic.
Just asked my friend about the "report" thing, here is what he had to say.
FP_Brodi: Hey, a guy on the forums I frequent tried that Gamegain and he got a report about using a pirated version. With a case number and everything.
xxxxx: Oh hey, and lol
FP_Brodi: Why you laughing lmao?? Im serious (http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=672616). Look at the post under mine.
FP_Brodi: see, is he in some shit or wat
xxxx: Lol, when this first came out of beta, the forum would be FULLLLL of people going crazy over those reports. Most of us who were in beta knew about the problem already because of the beta keys giving the same message. so we would just sit back and laugh.
FP_Brodi: well, what does he have to do? Or is he fucked?
FP_Brodi: ?????
xxxxx: SOrry had to get a pop.
xxxxx: Well, after we reported the problem back in beta, we were told just to ignore the message and they would send you out another code.
xxxx: But, now that it is out of beta and the keys are being payed for, I dont know if they are taking these reports more serious or not. But as far as I know, they they just used to scare people away or whathave you
FP_Brodi: well theres another problem, click on the link I posted and go to the bottom, where they guy is talking with customer support.
xxxxx: Again, they probably have the report on record or whatnot, but I highly doubt they would actually do anything. I can probably ask one of my buds who is a mod on the forums if you want?
FP_Brodi: Sure, see what he says.
FP_Brodi: still there??
xxxxx: Ya, talking to him now
FP_Brodi: K
xxxxx: He says that your friend should not worry or lose sleep over anything, as nothing is probably going to happen. But for safe measure, he says that it would be good to send an email saying that you entered your code wrong. Well I have to get off here, good luck to ya and nice to see you on finally lol
FP_Brodi: I know :D, I will post this and see if it was useful at all.
xxxxx: ahahha, ok. Peace mayyyyynnnnnneeeee
I just inputted known "pirated" data just to see what'll happen. My fellow facepunchers, DOOMSDAY IS UPON US NEXT FRIDAY!

Wow, we're all retarded.
Maybe i should just close this thread to stop you all getting arrested.
Haha this is very entertaining.
So what's the conclusion? Does this actually work?
haha, I'd like to see them get me here in Wales!
I through sheep at him.
Maybe i should just close this thread to stop you all getting arrested.
Nobody is getting arrested.
Think about it. If you owned a company, would you go out of your way to sue every single person that you think pirated your software? The person in question could be anywhere in the world. The legal cost involved in suing someone is much higher than any damages you could collect, especially since there is no proof. There is no evidence other than some "website report" that could have been made up.
This is a scare tactic that is commonly used by anti-piracy groups or companies. They will not sue you.
I got the same message, no email was sent to my ISP, no legal action was taken.
It's safe.
I used this with my Asus laptop and so far I actually did get an fps boost on games. I got about 5 fps on L4D. Which is good since I can barely run that game on low with 800x600 with 15 fps when there's a horde around.
I got the same message, no email was sent to my ISP, no legal action was taken.
It's safe.
If you read the report, it says, "Potential Report Date on 2009-1-16", which is next Friday.
That's judgment day, man.
Blocked the program from accessing the internet on install. All should have done same.
Blocked the program from accessing the internet on install. All should have done same.
and if it still access then internet it's technically spyware.

Does anyone know how this program is supposed to work?
Nah, i used this program years ago. (Older version ofcourse)
I had a warning, nothing happened.
As stated before, its just a scare tactic.
I don't get it, just clean your registry with like ccleaner and turn off bullshit with in msconfig and hell it's free.
Hell why don't buy a computer with a turbo button! Let the bullshit floooow!
*Is there some way i can activate the misspelling thing so i can spell better i liked that feature!
Are you using firefox? you can get a spellcheck plugin.
Are you using firefox? you can get a spellcheck plugin.
Spellchecker is in firefox by default and is on by default lol
Hahah my friend came running to me about the same program, and the illegal software message.
That is fake. The program installed a file in my windows directory called "IPSend.bat" which my virus detector detected. It was sending my IP to that same website.
Every time I tried opening the program, The bat file was activated.
CONFIRMED FAKE SCARE TACTIC.
Does it give anyone an increase in GTA4?
Does it give anyone an increase in GTA4?
A friend of mine reported a 5 FPS increase...
This just made things worse for me.
Got major stuttering in Left 4 Dead.
No performance difference.
I guess this program is like Finally Fast.com :v:
I got the threat message from Gamegain and i immediately uninstalled the program, cleaned registry, checked for spyware, and rebooted. the warning didnt pop up again. Being 13 years old, i asked my older brother who is 19 and in tech support and he says it is bullshit, and if they threaten to press charges unless you buy their software it is illegal and blackmailing.
well i did some research and the threats are made by a file called sysutil.exe more info at http://www.precisesecurity.com/files-process/2008/07/24/sysutilexe/
