I ALWAYS buy EVGA no matter what because of their support and warranties.
Had to skip on evga due to no local repair or warranty centre in Australia.
$75 to ship it to Taiwan by air, no thanks. :(
I really wouldn't consider that as a selling feature. You can easily do that yourself by defining a custom fan profile. The binning of the GPU and maybe the cooler performance matters the most.
I don't know if its changed but the VBIOS will specify a minimum fan speed that you simply can't make it go lower than. I had to edit the vBIOS on my 650Ti to allow a fan profile that would let it ramp down completely.
Anyone know how well the stock cooler works with the 980? IIRC the 970 will actually run passively at idle but I don't know if that's with the stock cooler or not.

I've been waiting for non-reference 980s because I thought the stock one would be worse
Hopefully my 970 will be a good increase in performance for running games at 2560x1440 over my 650.
apparently some people seem to think the ACX cooler is loud, but according to my ears it isn't very loud at all.
I don't really see why fan noise is a huge concern honestly. If you're playing a game the sound should be drowning out most of the fan noise, if not all of it. (Though in my case I'd have to walk all the way around my desk to hear my fan anyways plus I normally have at least one fan in my window blowing cool air in even during the winter anyways.)

That's why idle noise is more important though. Don't want your comp being loud as shit if you aren't doing anything
I'm going to get three 980 for my upcoming build in a week or so
what cpu are you getting? i got a 970 yesterday and i found on cpu dependant games theres not much improvement with my stock 2700k, i have been overclocking it again today but my options are pretty limited as gigabytes ds3h board doesnt allow vcore adjustment
Btw, the FTW edition of the 970 has been reviewed here
Chief among the FTW's selling points is the use of a new cooling configuration dubbed ACX 2.0. Comprised of two 90mm fans, four heatpipes and an array of aluminium fins, the cooler touts a higher number of fan blades, a redesigned fan motor and improved magnets. According to EVGA, these enhancements allow the cooler to work more efficiently than ever before, and such claims are backed-up by our real-world temperature readings, which we'll get to a little later in the review.
Looks really good and I think I see what 'ACX 1.0' means now
just saw this about the acx1.0 looks like if your going with evga its better to get the acx2 version. kinda glad i got the msi, i only got it cos it was the only card in stock but the TF V has 100mm fans and 4 heatpipes, according to one review i saw it can be overclocked as high as a 980
I'm waiting to make a decision until I see some more overclocking results and some more truly full cover waterblocks come out for the 980

Yep, another reason I am returning my acx 1.0.
Although there are apparently problems with the msi that I am buying instead as well. Apparently one of the fans will spin up to full speed during gaming and then when you are done it will continue to spin full speed until you shut down your system, restarting doesn't fix it I guess.

I have a stock ASUS 980.
Idles at 25% fan speed and low to mid 30s for temp. Any thing else you'd like to know?
[editline]26th September 2014[/editline]
Even with louder AMD cards you're not really going to notice low fan speeds. Especially if it is always running it will sound normal to you.

atleast thats a bios problem rather than hardware

According to 3dMark 11 it's an improvement of 2.5-3x on the gpu. For anyone curious, the 650's results and the 970's results.
has anyone else had problems with fraps with the 9xx? it slipped my mind because i setup afterburner/hwinfo but screenshot function doesnt seem to work in afterburner

How's the peak noise levels? I was considering Twin Frozr but I dunno if I can get away with going with stock.

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. Its not like graphics cards are jet engines or anything.
Considering I also have a level 10 gt (4 fans) and a cpu fan I'm not sure that I can distinguish the graphics card itself.
edit: installed something that let me get fan control. I don't notice any real noise changes until over 40% fan speed. And I don't think its gone up that high when I've been playing games.
edit 2:
according to this its pretty quiet compared to other cards

Most of the time stock heatsinks end up being louder because they're less efficient...

I didn't get Crysis to work with Fraps at all. I just enabled the FPS counter via the console though.
Just take screenshots through steam and record stuff via shadow play (in the geforce experience)

287€ for this card if you have a VAT, shipped from UK to anywhere!!!
I can't believe it! O_O
[editline]27th September 2014[/editline]
Would this be a good upgrade from my GTX670sc?
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/palit_geforce_gtx_970_jetstream_review,1.html theres a review for that card, wouldnt you have to pay the vat of wherever you live though?
I have the ACX 1.0 version of the EVGA and temps are fine. Idles at 28c and maxes out at around 66c when I fired up Sniper Elite 3 for a good 10 minutes. Certainly not harmful temperatures. I wouldn't mind them being better of course, but for $270 I can't complain, and it's certainly no cause for alarm.

yeah ACX 1.0 seems totally fine to me too. the MSI idles with fans off though, so I think it has a much higher idle temp than the ACX (I think the asus strix idles with fans off as well.)
I can't imagine 1 of three heat pipes being off making a huge difference
But what do I know

the 2 that are actually making contact are larger than the one that isn't anyway. 2x 8mm heat pipes and 1 6 mm heat pipe
[editline]27th September 2014[/editline]
I was just doing some ultra settings 1080p battlefield 4 and the max temp I got to was 62 Celsius
[editline]27th September 2014[/editline]
my last cards idle temp was 10 degrees hotter than this ones load temp.

Not bad. Although if a 970 was sitting at the same temp as a 770 under similar load and noise levels, I'm be seriously concerned about the real quality of the cooler with the extremely decreased heat output.
So my Gigabtye 670 is pretty much on its way out after 2.5 years (random BSOD's / Driver Crashes etc).
Whats the best GTX 970 card brand to replace it with?
Not particually impressed with the life of this card since its been playing up since before the 2 year mark
XFX [sp]Kidding, they don't make NVidia cards anymore, get an EVGA[/sp]

A lot of people have been saying the current EVGA cards are actually really low quality compared to the rest this time round
