Is it loud?
ACX 2.0 is supposed to be really quiet, they don't stop at idle like MSI or ASUS do but, i dont believe it will be loud enough to make a difference. I run 7 fans on my comp anyways so personally im used to the noise
Here's a new video with the HD texture pack installed. I don't see any difference in performance really. Also doesn't look that different either. So it isn't super important at all. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht4_AZlTrE0&feature=youtu.be[/hd]
I'm pretty sure the downside to using up all your VRAM is that textures will pop in more often because they were booted out of the GPU to make room. [editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
Is it loud?
Do you have any fans on your case? Generally GPU fans don't go up to higher speeds and thus are only as loud at load as they are at idle. And you won't be able to pick out the GPU fan if you have other fans too. Don't take this the wrong way but why are you so worried about it?
I'm pretty sure the downside to using up all your VRAM is that textures will pop in more often because they were booted out of the GPU to make room.
Yep, causing the occasional stutter or HDD thrash

I personally don't see why fan noise is a big concern anyways. I'd rather better cooling over quieter fans so long as the fans aren't so loud they're drowning the game out. (Which would be a pretty hard task for them to accomplish anyways.)
I still have a 570, time for an upgrade, I always wanted to try out shadowplay anyway.

Even my hotter AMD cards never really got to levels where they made more noise than idle.

true, and maxwell is damn good with its power, meaning less heat, so i would assume runs extremely cool.
Most Nvidia cards are capped to 70% max fan speed anyway and you have to do a BIOS mod to uncap it.
This is fairly old information (specifically talking about a 460 here) but EVGA used to uncap the fan speeds on their superclocked cards. Not sure if that's still true.

A friend of mine just built a new computer and used one of those Corsair Liquid Cooler CPU blocks and the fans were triggering his mic and were just as audible as he was. He got new fans and swapped them out today though, he says it's way quieter now.

But then my computer tower is behind my monitor and horizontal so the sounds don't even come out the right side for it to even need to be a concern for me. Disturbing me in my sleep isn't an issue for me personally either since I turn off my computer at night anymore and generally sleep with three fans on in my room anyways.
Jesus where do you live if you need so many fans on even during the night?
Jesus where do you live if you need so many fans on even during the night?
Well it's not so much that where I live is warm, it's just that I don't handle heat very well at all. I find it too warm if it's above 60ºF (15.5ºC).

I'm definitely not obese. If anything I'm underweight due to a really fast metabolism. Living on the north pole sounds acceptable to me though.
^Could also be hypothyroidism and your metabolism creating all that heat.
My Zotac Gtx 970 is getting moderate coil whine/buzzing, the first video card i've had with this much (coming from a 670.) Is there a specific brand of 970 with minimal coil whine?
almost anything but Zotac
almost anything but Zotac
Lol shoulda known. I bought zotac because it was available and I was impatient. Gonna buy an ASUS maybe and sell the zotac or sli.
there was a reason Zotac was available lol
almost anything but Zotac
Zotac's build quality isn't bad. They're just not that popular in terms of brand name.
Zotac's build quality isn't bad. They're just not that popular in terms of brand name.
it's not exactly that, but more along the lines of longevity, and support. a friend got a Zotac not long ago and had to RMA because it died like 3 weeks later. he had a hell of a time with support trying to figure out what was wrong. luckily Newegg refunded his money, and he paid a restocking fee and got a MSI. much better choice
Zotac's build quality isn't bad. They're just not that popular in terms of brand name.
It's a bit more than that. I agree they're not bad by any means, but they're not quite a top-tier brand.

I personally have owned everal Zotac products and they're all working fine. [editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
It's a bit more than that.
Anybody know when the 900 series cards on Amazon are finally gonna get in stock? I've been sitting on " "Temporarily out of stock" for my order for a while now with no emails updating me on the status
I ordered a Gigabyte GTX970 on the 24th of September and I am yet to hear anything. In the comments of one of the reviews someone said that they had emailed on the Amazon on the 29th and they said they didn't know when they would be getting more stock.
I'm pretty sure the downside to using up all your VRAM is that textures will pop in more often because they were booted out of the GPU to make room.
Actually, texture pop-ins are affected by non-volatile memory (HDD, SDD). Insufficient amount of VRAM will usually result in stuttering. Also, benches are here: http://gamegpu.ru/images/remote/http--www.gamegpu.ru-images-stories-Test_GPU-RPG-Middle-earth_Shadow_of_Mordor-test-ShadowOfMordor_1920.jpg Too bad they didn't include the GTX 970/980 cards.
