Is it worth to make the jump from a GTX 660 TI to a 970?, im a total graphics whore so if im really going to notice the perfomance jump ill do it!; Tho im not entirely sure if i should go ahead and buy a new CPU as well , currently i have a I5-3350P 3.10 GHz
Your friend's one time failed card shouldn't represent the entirety of Zotac's quality since it can happen to any brand. I personally have owned everal Zotac products and they're all working fine.
[editline]30th September 2014[/editline]
Although they're not top-tier like eVGA, but they're far from the cheap brands like Powercolor.
of course not, but what i'm getting at is they feel less quality than other top tier, and if im going to drop $400 on something It might as well be a top tier brand. plus having dealt with their support first hand is just something nobody should ever have to experience. it's absolutely horrible. where as on the other hand EVGA support is god like, and I can get to a tech who actually cares, and knows whats going on, at least as opposed to Zotacs techs.
powercolor, well you just ask for failure at that point.
i mean any brand has duds, I get that more than anyone. I just believe that Zotac shouldnt be a choice over other brands at a certain price point with the thought of warranties and support.
id put them in the middle if not lower of the upper brands.
I ordered a Gigabyte GTX970 on the 24th of September and I am yet to hear anything. In the comments of one of the reviews someone said that they had emailed on the Amazon on the 29th and they said they didn't know when they would be getting more stock.
Amazon emailed me and gave me a delivery date of Oct 22nd to Nov 5th for my EVGA 970 SC :(
maybe try a different brand? because maybe they have so many backorders they literally dont know when they'll have enough
this generation of cards is selling ridiculously furious.

Also glad I ordered mine the day the came out since everyone else is having issues. Though I did order a 980 not 970
Well it's not so much that where I live is warm, it's just that I don't handle heat very well at all. I find it too warm if it's above 60ºF (15.5ºC).
Ah I can relate to that. I break into Sweats really easily just because of changes in heat. (I'm not obese either)
I just thought you were using fans because of it being like 20C or something like that!
On topic, will the 970 really last that long? With the release of Shadows of Mordor and it's ridiculous GPU apetite will the card be usless in all but a few months?
Or am I just being silly? Originally I was set on saving for a 980 until all the reviews started popping up saying the 970 was a close contender and was just about as good as a 750 TI.

The ultra-texture stuff is pretty much for 1080p+ resolutions. Whenever 4k becomes mainstream I'm guessing it's just a matter of putting another 970 in there and *ffft* done.

Man I don't know if I should get 2x980 GTX or a Radeon 295x2

Isnt the 980 better?
Isnt the 980 better?
It's probably not worth all the extra money for the 980, the performance is quite similar depending on overclocks
Isnt the 980 better?
not worth the extra $200 or 400 if you buy 2.
the 970 is sitting at a excellent price point for its performance.
nVidia really nailed it on this one.

In Australia the price difference is $300 between a GTX 970 and GTX 980. I ordered a 970 from Amazon instead of locally though and saved $150-200.
Bleh I am returning my zotac 970. The card ran hot, the fans were really loud, and the buzzing from coil whine was really lame. What's really gay is I have to pay a restocking fee for newegg and all that garbage.
Would it be better to just sell my card for like 300$? Otherwise I would only be getting $264 out of the $335 I paid.

If you bought it from newegg.com and you could get the free 30-day trial of newegg premier, it makes it so you don't have to pay shipping or restocking fees when you RMA something. Unless you've already gotten the free trial.

Oh wow I didn't know premier had free restocks, thanks for the tip i'm deffinitely just going to do the premier trial and get the free refund.

If you already filed the RMA it won't update itself to not include the restocking fee, Just email the service email they have. That's what happened to me. I just straight up emailed them saying hey, I recently filed an RMA request and after I filed the request I realized I could get free 30-day trial of newegg premier which would remove the shipping and restocking fees. Then I asked them to update my RMA, and 3 days later I got an email back and the person had updated the RMA waiving the restocking fee and issued me a free ups return shipping label. (Which I could have done myself, but they did it for me.)

Yeah that's exactly what i'll have to do, thanks a ton. I think I will get a Gigabyte 970 or Asus instead, they seem to have the least problems.
For those of you waiting on orders from Amazon I was just sent an estimated delivery date of October 23rd for my Gigabyte GTX 970. I placed the order on the 24th of September so it is one day off being a month since I placed my order. While it isn't great could be worse, I read some people were told by Amazon that more stock was expected on November 19th.
Yeah i have a Oct 22nd date. Ordered on the 25th.

Passmark scores definitely shouldn't influence your GPU choice, though.
I'm gonna get myself an MSI Twin Frozr GTX 970 - one for the performance and 2 for colour scheme.
Is that a good choice or should I be choosing a different Vendor?
I got my MSI 970 the wednesday after release, and I'm extremely happy with it, especially since I've survived on an old HD 5770 after my 580 died in July.
I find it to be really quiet, and iirc it turns off one of the fans on low temps. I've never overclocked anything before but I feel it's pretty capable.
It also has a nice white light that you can set to pulsate like a heartbeat with the pulse quickening ast gpu load rises. It's pretty gimmicky but It's really fun :v:
I'd say it's a good choice.
didn't know cards were so cheap nowadays, i was expecting $600+
might as well start saving to upgrade my gtx 560ti, just hope my cpu doesn't bottleneck (AMD phenom II quad core)
It might be a pretty bad bottleneck actually
fuck
i'll just wait a few more years until i can afford a new cpu, motherboard, power supply, and gpu all at once
It might be a pretty bad bottleneck actually
It honestly wouldn't be that awful. Gets better IPC than an FX 4100!
But really, you'd be fine to just get a 970 for now.
i guess the other thing to consider is if i should get a new gpu right before college starts
probably not the best idea right

im very sad, i had to cancel my order because very expensive car repair bill has arisen.
sometimes responsibilities suck, oh well going to save back up
how do you activate DSR per application? do you have to do it in gforce experience rather than the control panel?
