Scan has alot of GPUs in at the moment, picked up a Asus 970. Time to see how it performs against my 670.
have the prices gone up at scan?
have the prices gone up at scan?
They haven't gone up in the last week or so while Ive been keeping and eye on them
Ordered my MSI 970 from Ebuyer - Cheaper than Scan at the moment and CCL weren't expecting stock for like 2 weeks. Hopefully I should have it by the end of the week and my build will be complete. I'm so stoked. [editline]10th October 2014[/editline] Scratch that, It won't be coming til Monday the 20th due to a mismatch in billing/shipping address.. Dammit, at least Aria never changed the delivery date when that happened with my other parts -_-
how do you activate DSR per application? do you have to do it in gforce experience rather than the control panel?
I think you just turn it on globally and then in-game if you want to actually use it you turn up the resolution. Uh wow that was sudden, just got an email saying my estimated delivery date was Oct 16th (like 2 days) for my Gigabyte 970. Depending on how much I get paid I'll probably have to cancel my 2nd one, I didn't think Amazon would get any more in for like a month.
so just got my truck taken care of, now to get my tags and oil change. then i should be able to order the 970 near the end of the month damn, i hate delays
unless you really need a upgrade it might be worth waiting until they start including games with the 9xx cards
going from a 570, im anxious to get one. no games i really want right now except civ 6 maybe
unless you really need a upgrade it might be worth waiting until they start including games with the 9xx cards
The huge differences in performance, power consumption, and heat generation are more than enough to convince most people to buy the new models sooner rather than later, in my opinion.
770 to 980 ti when/if it comes out wonder how that'll work out for me but probably totally unneeded unless I get a super nice monitor screw it
I'm actually glad I didn't have money 2 months ago. I probably would have bought a 780. Got my 970 yesterday, can't wait to start building!
Just a notice to everyone, if you have 32GB or more RAM, any GTX 9xx card with the latest drivers will be extremely unstable, physically remove a stick of RAM, or lower the OS memory limit by 8GB using msconfig. Had performance on my 970 worse then when i was using my 670, was really strange in the end I had to reseat the card, changed the cable from the PSU also. First time I that has happened to me, was assuming if the card wasn't seared correctly or if the power was dodgey It wouldn't even post. (was pushing 30FPS in WoW on low)

It seems rather unlikely but I don't think it's impossible.
i saw that my local fry's has a bunch of asus 970's in stock for the same price as newegg. is it worth the $350 if i'm upgrading from a Radeon 7950? i use a 4K monitor

I mean, the 970 is definitely no slouch, but they especially shine in 4K performance in a SLI configuration.
sure gtx970 is nice, but no, i'm not paying extra idr equivalent of us$96
Probably been asked before but I'm buying a 970, which brand? EVGA or MSI? I'm currently pointing my fingers at EVGA due to their support and specs seem to be better but MSI's cooling sounds a lot better, is it really or just a marketing gimmick?
ehh either is good. acx 2.0 cooling is great, but so is MSi's twin frozr. i'd choose EVGA for better support in the end.

(Like every EVGA card I've had.) The criticisms people have posted about the weird layout of the cooler aren't really something to be concerned about either. This card still runs notably cooler than my 650 did.
i ordered an ACX 2 over the frozr partly because of MSI's bad support. and the new card looks way worse than my Twin Frozr III 570 (not that looks are a deciding point).
I did like to cooler on my MSI GTX 680. Too bad it just sits in my desk drawer now.

I have the EVGA ACX 1.0 and it's fine. A little loud, maybe, but it runs cooler than my HD 6850 ever did, and I only spent $280 on mine :v:
Anyone here heard anything about the small single fan 970 that Gigabyte did?
for the 970: gigabyte>msi>asus>evga http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/evga-geforce-gtx-970-acx-has-misaligned-gpu-vs-heatpipes.html
doesn't say whether that's a ACX 2.0 or 1.0. plus, are they ALL like that? [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] i still would go EVGA first. ill never get an ASUS. they have terrible support, at least for me, i'm going thru hell for my Nexus 7..all for a busted headphone jack. took over 2 weeks just for a reply to my main RMA request.
I've never had any problems with ASUS' tech support. My Strix 970 arrived today, so I'll be installing it pretty soon. I'm quite happy with the overall appearance of the card, it has a beefy cooler with some fat heat pipes and a metal fan shroud on top. The backplate is a nice touch as well, has a brushed finish with the ASUS logo and 'Direct CU II' screened on top.
for the 970: gigabyte>msi>asus>evga http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/evga-geforce-gtx-970-acx-has-misaligned-gpu-vs-heatpipes.html
Even with the misaligned heatpipes you're looking at only a couple degrees difference in temperature. For a card that already runs cooler than previous generations that's really not something that should be anything more than a minor consideration. My EVGA 970 idles 12-14ºC cooler on average than my 650 did and at load it's cooler by a similar factor.
