Even with the misaligned heatpipes you're looking at only a couple degrees difference in temperature.
More like at most one degree. This hardly makes any difference.
[t]http://puu.sh/cyzkN/d179b1e94d.jpg[/t] So far I'm extremely pleased with this card. It sits in between 33-36C idle and peaks around 60-65C with the stock fan profile. Not bad considering I can't even hear the fans when they actually need to spin up. They seem to stay in the 800RPM range and will occasionally spin at ~1,050RPM. In comparison my 7950 would idle at 33C and peaked at ~68C. Unfortunately the reference fan design was loud as hell past 30%, and it typically ran at 45-55% under load to keep things under 70C. So with this new card my machine remains extremely quiet whether things are idle or loaded down.
Should I get two 970's instead of two 980's? I don't think I'm going to get a 4k monitor
Whatever your budget permits
I don't have any problem spending more money. But I just don't see much difference in the two. Since I'm not gonna do any 4k gaming. I just want a setup that will max everything
then 970's should be fine. they are damn near close in performance, but 970 has the better price performance ratio
Is it worth upgrading from an evga gtx670 sc with an Arctic Accelero Mono plus? Also would it be worth installing the mono plus on the new 970 or are the stock coolers good too?!? At the time of the 670 it dropped my temps by half, 70 load to 40, impressive what such a small cooler can do!
I was able to get Assassin's Creed Unity for free even though I bought the card before the promotion started. I just contacted Newegg and they sent me a code. You could also choose Far Cry 4 or The Crew instead of AC Unity.
That's what I'm trying to do, I sent over an email a few hours ago.
I wonder if amazon would let me have a code. I bought my 970 a while ago though. Anyone buying from amazon tried it?
i asked scan yesterday seems they will give a code as they asked for my invoice number

Here's a silly question for all you 970 owners: I have had horrible experiences with multi-monitor support on Nvidia cards. If I get a 970 with 1xHDMI, 2xDVI and 1xDisplayPort - how many of those outputs can be driven at once? I don't need surround, or G-sync. I just need to drive 4 displays, 3 digital (HDMI, 2xDVI), 1 VGA. Maximum individual resolution is 1920x1080.
You should be able to. I drive 2xDVI, 1xHDMI, 1xDP off my gtx 680, and my coworker does the same off his EVGA 970.

Only two of my three are hooked up to mine though since I don't have a cord/adapter to hook up the third to my 970 so I can't say from experience that it works fine.

The reason I asked, I once had a customer buy a GTX690 for use in 5760*1080 + Accessory surround. The damn thing just refused to work until all the cables matched, then it started artifacting on one display in some games. Ended up having to RMA the card, which left a really bad taste, given how expensive they are.
How early on was the 690 issue? I know the 680 didn't support all 4 ports being used until a later update
How early on was the 690 issue? I know the 680 didn't support all 4 ports being used until a later update
November 2012. I remember the 306.97 driver being problematic, 301 was better.
I'm so hype for getting my 980 kinda glad my PC decided to die now
for anyone curious as to how well EVGA ACX 2.0 does, well i'd say this damn good. keep in mind, that's with the fans off, they don't kick in till around 60c. highest it's been is 64c.
Thanks, Nvidia. A truly fantastic experience.

Now apparently I have 0 supported games. I looked at the list, I have 48.
My 970 took a shit on itself a few days ago :v:. The video signal randomly cut out while I was in game, and then my machine completely crashed. After that the card refused to display video for more than 20 seconds at a time, and it was tested in approximately 4 different machines. Same result with each machine. Once the video would cut out, the card acted as if someone had completely removed it from the motherboard. Display drivers wouldn't detect it and it would simply disappear from the device manager altogether. The card has been shipped back for a replacement.

In case anyone ever needs to know any information at any point: In regards to the Phenom II x4 965 (Though I'm sure it's the same for any Phenom II series around there), it does bottleneck the GTX 970 - However, I seem to have countered the issues to an extent with simple overclocking, using watch_dogs as my test subject. I'm now at 3.9 GHz (From 3.4 GHz), and most importantly, my CPU-NB is now 2.2 GHz (from 2.0 GHz). The CPU-NB overclock seems to have really helped smooth things out, and that was only a small nudge. So if you find yourself with this card in your hands, but a Phenom II CPU, it might be worth looking into a small overclock just to help widen the bottleneck.
What manufacturer?
I'm nor Zorlok but looking at some PMs from awhile back when I was talking to him about the card he was ordering it looks like it was an Asus.
Yeah, from my post on the other page: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1425835&p=46383635&viewfull=1#post46383635 It's the Asus Strix model. I've personally never had any issues with their products in the past, so I'm slightly disappointed. But I'm willing to overlook something like this, as long as it doesn't happen again. Although it does appear that other people are having some black screen related issues as well, some are able to resolve the issue and others have to RMA their card. Honestly the card was fantastic while it was operating correctly, I have zero complaints in terms of performance and fan noise. So that's why I'm willing to give it another chance.
Least you didn't have coil whine. My MSI 970 had such bad coil whine, i went back and got an EVGA. this one has it too, not as bad, but still irritating. from reading about them, the 970s are having quite a bit of coil whine issues.
It actually did produce a very dull whine if I fired up Euro Truck Sim 2, of all things :v:. Otherwise it remained silent, so I'm hoping the replacement card won't be a noisy bastard.
