htc hero, easy. Android, better design (in my opinion ofc), and you dont have to pay for overpriced how-did-i-reinvented-the-wheel iphone stuff.
I'd suggest you go T-Mobile instead. Unlimited texts, 1000 minutes for £35 for 24 Months. Or alternatively, you can get the same deal for £36 for 18 months instead. Both for the HTC HD2. I'm getting one soon
T-Mobile are terrible in my area, o2 gets the most coverage. The deal I posted was an 18month because I didn't want to keep the same device for 2 years, with how fast technology improves I'm just too tempted.
Lemme know what you think, I personally love mine but from what I read on xda developers lots of people are getting bad devices, hope yours is good! You flash ROM's much?
I have an Ipod Touch and recently the HTC Hero, now both of which are great, touch screens are really responsive, screen quality is excellent. But however the pure quality of the Ipod screen is so much better than the Hero but the Hero is still an excellent phone all together. If you do go with the touch I would certainly recommend the update, makes everything much smoother. And there are no strings attached when trying to download apps, (well the free ones anyway).

Pure quality of the screen? per say colour and sharpness/clarity?
I've noticed that a lot of Iphones/Itouches have this blue hue to the backlight, it's not so obvious when looking direct but from the side it's urgh.
OLED's king of my book, but then again the sheer size and resolution of my HD2's screen is just orgasmic.

Hi, thanks for your input. the HD2 was really high in my list of 'nextphonetoget' but windows isn't my 'thing' anymore, although they are 1000's of apps/games, i've been through a few 1000s of them thanks to ipmart and having a rapidshare account. I'm just after some alternative to winmo.
Yeah I do flash often, at the moment I'm a regular visitor of HTCpedia. At the moment I'm finding Dutty's R14 rom the most stable. It's lovely. Take a look at that site, most other ROM authors have started to use SENSE and what not. I haven't flashed in a while, purely because the phone is stable as hell, hardly any chrashes, haven't got to restart for days and days.
Oh and I'm on Orange pay monthly. The coverage in my area is actually the best of all others that I've used. I have a bit of trouble ~1-2 bars reception when I'm in my room and sometimes have to walk towards my window to stop getting cut off but other than that it's not bad at all.

Do you find a lot of trouble on the stock roms? I'm getting it good so far on my stock o2 ROM. Rumour has it HTC locked so much RAM and ROM on the HD2 European version, a new radio upgrade unlocks it but still rumoured yet.
If you want something with HD2 spec, but not Windows Mobile I think you should take a look at the rumoured Supersonic!

Yeah, I had alot of trouble with the first few ROMs I tried, really made life pretty crappy 'cause of all the failed update attempts so you'd keep loosing everything and then having to transfer it back to the phone, only to loose it again. That's until I found R14 and haven't looked back. It's not as well-featured as most of the other ROMs around now but it's definitely one of the most stable. I'd have stability over features any day.
Ooh, have you flashed yet? Or you stock still? Wait around for a while, I know the HD2 is quite new, the first few updates will be buggy as hell, wait 'til people have tested them themselves, gave feedback and the feedback is taken in and fixed in later versions. Or that's what I did anyway.
Wow, [img_thumb]http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/htc-supersonic-clear.jpg[img_thumb] is delicious!

Gonna wait awhile as o2 have locked firmware updates, don't want to mess around as I just about managed flashing my Xperia X1 when I had it. The fastest ROM for it I could find, valkyerie or something was shite.
Feedback on the Supersonic's look has been pretty eh, that's not so pretty but there's been no public announcement as of yet. Worth holding out for if you are an android fan though I'd say. The HD2 has been out for 3 months and xda has a lot of people complaining about a lack of updates! ;O

Ah well that's fair enough then. I wouldn't be too bothered it about either, though I'm going with the 18 month deal because it's cheaper in the long run. I've never actually had a HTC before, though my friend has HTC and says it's awesome. Some people complain about the battery life of the HD2, though I'd have no problems what so ever putting it on charge when I got home from college every day. But thanks! How is the touch screen on the HD2? Is it responsive or laggy? And not a whole lot, but I don't plan to put much on it anyway.

The touch screen seems very hit and miss depending on your phone. Mines is great but I had trouble getting used to a touchscreen, I had a LG Viewty before and that was bad in comparison. Some people get ghostly touchscreens that act on their own, and others overly sensitive screens. xda-developers has plenty of fixes available though, always a patch for something before it's officially ironed out by HTC. First HTC phone I've owned and by far the most solid device I've owned beside my Zune HD.
Battery life I worry about, but it's never died suddenly on me. Just watch how many programs you are running and you'll be fine, WiFi is quite the killer but that's always on. For what the phone is doing, hardware wise I'd say it's pretty good. I think I'll get the extended battery just incase, it has a kickstand and I think it's still thinner than the iphone.

Explain Android's failings, I don't see them.
I used to have an iPhone, recentlyish got an HTC Hero. I wouldn't dream of going back.
I have said it before and I'll say it again: When you pay for an iPhone you pay for the logo, the hardware really isn't that expensive. HTC Hero can do pretty much anything an iPhone can, and the price is less than half of an iPhone.
Iphone owns all of the other mobile phones in the gaming department. Some android phones might be catching up, but it's nothing like the graphics capabilities of the iphone so far, and the application selection for the iphone is high as hell.
find me an HTC/or any other phone game that can be as pretty as this.

If you're a gamer/multimedia enthusiast, an iPhone should be your first choice, as it kind of eliminates the need for having an ipod, and a psp and a phone to be carried with you in your pockets.

It needs stricter developer guidlines for the Android market to stop more apps coming out that don't use vector icons and such.

Iphone games took time getting to the stage it's at, and it will take competitors some time before they can match and exceed the quality of good games on the Iphone.

What the HD2 has going for it in three months. I suppose the Iphone having a more unified system means compatibility is more consistent, something Android and WM has a problem with. How does the Iphone cope with emulating software?
One thing thats been getting me to want an HTC HD phone is that sexy HTC UI :3:
but yeah, those games look pretty okay, not caught up with the iphones current level of gaming. It'll reach there though, i'm sure of it, but until then, we'll see where the iPhone will be in that time.

Okay done a bit more research on the HTC HD2, I think I want one now :geno:

Be aware that WM 6.5 isn't so pretty after using it, if you email you have to email through WM. I like how crisp the text is but it's not so smooth in transition.
Having an MP3, phone and PSP in one is a good thing yeah, but when the battery life is quite poor you can't really do that much. Apparently xda-developers have discovered more RAM hidden in the HD2, it's a bit confusing at the moment so I'm waiting for someone to clarify it. Exciting though, up from 448 to 576 I believe, strange.

Last I checked, on all sites the HD2 is specified with 576 ram and 1 gig of rom.

That's the T-Mobile version to be released in a few months. Outside US it's 448mb RAM and 512mb ROM.
I love the Android platform much more than I like the iPhone.

Root it and get the Sholes.info 1.2 ROM if you haven't already
Why not just sell the old one and upgrade to a HD2?
Am I the only one in this thread who had a WM phone and totally hated it?
The applications available were utter crap and both WM and 3rd party apps were less stable than Windows Me.
That was a 6.1 phone though, but I don't think much has changed with the Marketplace.
[editline]02:39PM[/editline]
I have an iPod touch and an Android device, and I think Android is a much better mobile platform, but iPhones are just as sexy if not better and their variety of games is much higher too. But normal applications are usually better on Android (personal opinion)

I hated my Xperia X1, I just didn't like how unresponsive it was, WM 6.1 aswell. I'm loving 6.5 on a device that can actually run it fast. WM isn't optimised for the processors of phones today but WM7 should take care of that. I find the apps quite stable yet not many are optimised for my HD2's res. Iphones are bland boring devices, I can't find any sex appeal in that. :v:
The HD2 doesn't need 1GHZ to be fast, they just crammed the high spec in so that it could run with minimal slowdown. A WM7 rom that is optimised for the hardware is gonna be blazing fast.
Well, I've kinda fucked the iPhone off and about 2 minutes ago I bought a hero of eBay for £220 which has been hardly used as it is an unwanted upgrade. So I should get it by the weekend and I'll post what I think.
The HD2 was my next big thing, i WAS going to upgrade to it, but you can get newer ROMs which have the same interface as the HD2 for the older Touch HD, it's just -too- much on the screen. But that's my own opinion.
WinMo is alright for business, push mail, syncing to outlook your contacts/mail/sms and all that businessy stuff. But that's about it. There are 1000's of apps available, which seems alot, but aren't really that good/fun.
I'll report back to how I like the Hero.
Also, I'll be selling my HTC Touch HD on eBay most likely for around £200. And if i like the Android I'll probably keep it for a while until my contract runs out and then hopefully upgrade to another android phone (free) or move over to the iPhone which will hopefully be cheaper in 6 months time.
Thanks for everything, yo

Same device here.
Iphone is overrated, get a HTC HD2.
I upgraded from iPhone to Hero and I have to say it owns it.
Multitasking + Facebook Integration + Widgets make it awesome.
Loads of good free apps too!
Only bad thing is it sometimes slows down a bit, get a task manager app and you're sorted.
Ninja, yes finally something i wanna hear. It's a bit late now anyway even if you said the hero was pants. What's the battery life like compared to the ifonz? I'm actually looking forward to getting it now. What apps have you got for it?
Like I said, I don't want another WinMo device until they have a decent app market. I overclocked, underclocked, installed 1000's of apps and games and they all were fun for 10 minutes or so.
BUT my favourite game on WinMo is Bubblebreaker, bitches don't know about my high score of 2345 on standard portrait.

That's my point. Android is quickly becoming a mess thanks to the new huge screens rendering old apps ugly thanks to bitmapped graphics. iPhone might be somewhat behind it now, but it is the closed nature of it that keeps it so good. Google needs to become more hands on with Android in order to sort it out. Nexus One is a start but it's a terrible phone so they need to keep going.

How the hell is the Nexus One a bad phone? The only things bad about it are the lack of a physical keyboard and the appearance.
[editline]10:32PM[/editline]
And guess what, one of the main advantages of Android over the iPhone is... freedom! Google restricting that would kind of moot the point.
