You make no sense at all.
HP deliberately made their product almost non serviceable to tech savvy persons, just so they can rake in profit for fixing a small problem with a huge repair bill.
I bought an HP monitor refurbished from a store called factorydirect, and never had such a problem.
Although I still dislike Hewlett-Packard.
My HP TX1000 Tablet PC came with a Broadcom 4311 Mini PCIe Wireless card built-in, and needless to say, it's not Linux friendly. So after purchasing a new Atheros Wireless card on Amazon, I install the replacement card, only to be greeted by the BIOS telling me it's an incompatible wireless card..? Doing my Googling homework, it appeared to me that HP has a Witelist of acceptable Broadcom and Intel Wireless cards in their BIOS, and if your card isn't in the Whitelist, the Computer halts the boot process at POST.
Here's the exact error:

FUCKING LAME!
Doing further Googling, I discovered how to hack the BIOS with a hex editor to replace one of the Broadcom card's Device ID in the Whitelist with my Atheros card's ID. After flashing and rebooting, The card now works flawlessly. Apparently IBM Lenovo laptops also have this Whitelist, making internal
wireless card upgrades a pain in the ass.
Thanks again HP, I really needed to take that risk of fucking up my BIOS.
I had an odd issue with a similar hp tablet, the keyboard wouldn't work at all.
Turns out something shorts out on some of the models requiring you to pull the batter and hold the power button for 10 seconds to discharge and electricity from the unit.
Once you buy the hardware it should not lock you out from putting whatever hardware or software you want on it.
Thank you for backing up my point. :)
[editline]09:16AM[/editline]
Tell that to Dell.
Uh, Dell stopped using proprietary hardware a few years ago...
Also, you can hackintosh most Dells with hardly any fuss.
i love hp. my grandparents ordered my dv6500 about 2 years ago for xmas. to this day, HP has yet to bill my grandparents for the laptop :v:

Not a good analogy. A better one would be Honda putting a locking mechanism on your tires so they can only be changed at a Honda shop and not by your local mechanic.

[editline]12:17PM[/editline]
Besides, being an internal component is irrelevant. Every component of a laptop is an internal component. Is it ok for the company to block you from changing out the hard drive?
I hate HP's, they have turned into nothing but a huge pile of shit.
Well the old HPs are pretty good. My father owns a 5 year old HP nx7000 which amazingly still works. Sure, it's battery completely died few months ago and the HDD killed itself also, but in general, it still works
In 5 years the battery and HDD died? Yeah that's a piece of shit computer right there. I still have a 10 year old Compaq laptop (before HP swallowed them) and it's still kicking fine and dandy with a fresh copy of XP.
:bandwagon:
All aboard the anecdotal evidence train!
HP fucking sucks. Their prices for everything are absolutely ridiculous, especially for the quality you're getting.
I would buy an Alienware over HP (at least they are high quality.)
I love my w2408h. The TouchSmart is great too.
I love my w2408h. The TouchSmart is great too.
yeah if you want to spend $1500 for a 25" display and some shitty laptop components
Dell monitors are the bomb. HP is only good for fucking printing one thing I don't do on my computer. My mate has Dell and it's fucking amazing. I use Belinea.

best purchase I made this year.
yeah if you want to spend $1500 for a 25" display and some shitty laptop components
Have you used the HPTS?
why is that even relevant
[editline]05:16PM[/editline]
oh wait it's not
I don't have an HP monitor and it works perfectly! It's LG. I recommend LG.
[editline]10:33PM[/editline]
Life's good.
A friend of mine bought an HP notebook 2 and a half years ago and it broke about 10 times already, most of the time it was just the case though. He had it fixed every time, but something else (or the same part, I don't know) broke again.
Except for their printers.
The only HP printers that are good are the older ones (Laserjet 4, etc), they're mostly riding off of the rep they received back then.
Other then that their new printers are shitty, their printer drivers are an abomination and their "customer service" is awful,
They also put torx screws on their new printers to make it harder for you to actually own the hardware.
(this includes things such as replacing parts, modding it or cleaning the underside of the scanner glass, all of which they make it hard for you to do)
HP is not in the business of selling printers, they are in the business of selling ink which is part of the reason why they add subtle things to consume more ink and make it so that you can't turn them off.
You bought it as a product with Windows on it and it was designed to support Windows. If you want to hack about doing other stuff feel free but HP don't have to make things easy for you.
It is an artifical limit, there is no reason for it to exist.
I'd have to guess microsoft paid them to do it.
How would you like if a motor vehicle manufacture made it semi-impossible to drive your car in to certain areas or install third party parts?
Or if a shield was installed at your house, preventing you from inviting other people inside?
Amaryllis: Now you have part number
N/A N/A: no actually i already had that
N/A N/A: and i told you it if you scroll up
Amaryllis: then you can order it from us or using above phone number
N/A N/A: whatever, i'll do this later
N/A N/A: next question
Amaryllis: Please go ahead
N/A N/A: I want to enable the copy collating features
N/A N/A: So I don't have to manually sort things.
Amaryllis: You mean Two-Sided copy feature?
N/A N/A: No
N/A N/A: Collating is where it automatically sorts copies
N/A N/A: I want to enable that feature.
N/A N/A: *Firmware Upgrade/Update*
Amaryllis: Let me check
Amaryllis: Thanks for staying with me
Amaryllis: These feature is basicaly available in 7400 series
Amaryllis: However I am proviidng you steps that you can try
Amaryllis: Are we connected?
N/A N/A: still here
Amaryllis: I am providing you web page that has information about Collating Copies
N/A N/A: ok
Amaryllis: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00219164&dlc=en
Amaryllis: Please copy and paste the entire web-link from " http " to " c00219164&dlc=en " into a new web browser and Press Enter.
N/A N/A: yeah i know
N/A N/A: ...
N/A N/A: this is the page for the 7400 series
Amaryllis: You can try same stesp for your printer also
N/A N/A: not the point, that just tells newbies how to use the feature not enable it.
N/A N/A: I want a firmware upgrade, there is no logical reason I should have paid $100 more a few years ago to be able to sort copies
N/A N/A: The 7300 series and the 7400 series both have 96MB of onboard ram
N/A N/A: I'm not a programmer but I know that it's not hard to copy and paste code that lets me do stuff.
N/A N/A: Stuff that I should not have to pay extra for.
Amaryllis: As I explained you above that Collating Copies fearure is basicly for 7400 series
Amaryllis: And I regret to inform you that we have not relased any firmware regarding this
N/A N/A: who can i talk to about requesting a firmware upgrade?
Amaryllis: You can contact our phone support regarding this.
N/A N/A: number please
Amaryllis: 1-800-474-6836
N/A N/A: right
Amaryllis: It would be my pleasure working with a cooperative client. However, is there anything else I may assist you with?
N/A N/A: is that the number for the regular tech support that is just gonna tell me to buy a new model or is it somebody who actually knows stuff and can help me?
Amaryllis: Yes, it is phone support number.
N/A N/A: but is it the good phone support number?
Amaryllis: Yes.
N/A N/A: sure okay
Amaryllis: is there anything else I may assist you with?
Amaryllis: Are we connceted online?
N/A N/A: sure, tell the hp guys to provide proper driver support
N/A N/A: besides that, thats about it
N/A N/A: hmm could try either: lowering the price of hardware or offering the firmware and drivers open source so we can actually mod it
N/A N/A: besides that, you've been great on telling things i already know and reading off a script.
N/A N/A: dont take offense
N/A N/A: cya
Amaryllis: I will forward your suggestions to the concern department.
N/A N/A: awesome
Amaryllis: Thank you.

I wanted to buy a paper tray and unlock a feature, they gave me the run around and wanted me to email my credit card information to them.
Another time I wanted to turn the power save mode time to below 1 hour and have the scanner bulb still be turned off when the printer was turned on, so the bulb would not burn out (guess what you can only get the bulbs through them a few years after it's released then you have to buy a new device).
HP "customer service" told me that it's "not possible" even though I could easily do it if they gave me the firmware source code and a method of flashing the new version (this is possible as a few mundane updates were released through the awful update software)
hp is a shitty company.
I have the HP w2007 and it's an amazing monitor, no problems at all with it.
Monitors and printers are all HP's good at.
I hate HP's customer support, they say it's award winning but it's far from it. I ran a recovery on my old HP because that was the only way to re-format, and I got some copy-protection bullshit. I called HP, got some Indian that told me "THAT ERROR IS SERIOUS ERROR AND YOU NO DO THAT", then hung up on me.
Their monitors are awesome, however. Sounds like you had a bad incident.

And MAC tuned LGs and whatever else brand they use.
Running an upgraded Compaq SR5518F. Stuffed it with a stronger psu and 4890. 4 gigs of DDR2. Running windows 7. Nothing wrong right now.
The only problem I had with HP was that my laptop overheated when playing games.
My moms computer is an HP.
It has crashed twice. We are never buying from them again.
