I just bought a 30M long CAT6 cable and i got Win7 64-bit installed and the problem is almost gone. No crashes but a bit slow. I'm running 1 IDE drive, but i'm using a SATA drive for my OS. I am planning to sell the IDE drive to someone in my class for 10$.
You did check all your drivers on the new installation correct?
I'm pretty sure 64-bit supports up to 128GB RAM, so that can certainly not be the problem... But I've heard XP 64-bit should have a lot of bugs and such, maybe it's interferring with your graphic drivers and some other software for your new parts? Know this ain't much help, but I really haven't known/seen anybody have this problem before, in any case when their specs is so good..
It's WAY higher that 128GB, but that's the max that current motherboards support.
Not sure if I'm late but i7's don't work terribly well on XP. Sorry. [editline]09:55AM[/editline] It basically takes away the two higher cores. As in core number 3 and 4 by the way that I understand it.
CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, go to processes and screen shot.
No trouble anymore. Everthing got fixed after i got the driver away. :D
