Could anyone recommend a good set of computer speakers? I would like them to be less than $100.
On the topic of computer speakers, Im either gonna be going for the Klipsch Promedia 2.1s or the Logitech Z623s, anyone have experience with either of these and if so could recommend one of them?
Ive heard the bass is better on the Z623s but otherwise they are worse than the Klipsch.

It probably won't impress many people here, but I wound up buying the Panasonic SC-PMX5DBGNS micro hifi system and I'm very happy with my purchase. The multi-drive speakers are fantastic in my opinion and it sounds absolutely amazing in my bedroom. It's also quite an aesthetically pleasing system (although of course that wasn't even a consideration when buying it, but it is a nice bonus). My only issue with it is that it's been designed to be quite apple-centric so it gets confused when I plug my Android phone into it via USB and refuses to play music from it, but that's solved very easily with an aux cable thankfully.
Cost me 298 AUD (not bad considering everything over here is fucking expensive - managed to haggle almost $40 off of it at the shop). Considering I got paid extra for taking annual leave from work this week (for exams), I worked a few extra hours last week, and considering that I won $200 at the casino today (tradition to drop like $20 - $50 at the casino every semester after our last exam) I basically paid $0 for this in the end :v: Financially I'm exactly where I was last night before purchasing the hifi - hell, I'm in the positive actually.
Chilling out listening to some digital radio right now. Chilling out is the perfect choice of words too given that this station plays chill out music.

That looks like a nice system, perfect for a bedroom. I'm surprised on how aesthetically good it looks for the money; the control unit is just the right size for what it should be (unlike those Sony units which have an unnecessarily large one). I'd be curious to see what frequency the super-tweeter crosses over at.

Yeah, the Sony one I was looking at had a HUGE amplifier which seemed pretty unnecessary. It had a few extra features like bluetooth, but in the end I couldn't overlook the fact that this hifi had a fantastic set of speakers (and besides I doubt I'd use the bluetooth anyway - I have USB and auxilary cables anyway and it's not like my bedroom is annoyingly large. I mean it's not any longer or wider than I am twice tall, so... not really worth it).
Very happy with my purchase.
$1,500 well spent! I just got these Paradigm Studio 20 v5 speakers. They sound just as good as they look. I am so excited to have them!

I need a little halp.
I got M-Audio monitors over the summer and just plugged them into my mobo with the headphone jack because I don't have a soundcard (old one isn't compatible with my current computer) but now I'm looking around and I don't know what to get. I don't want to spend $100+ but I'd like to get some kind of interface that will get me some better sound quality from the monitors. Every now and then I hear buzzing, which I'm pretty sure is the result of the headphone jack connection.
I need to be pointed in the right direction with what to look for, I did a quick Amazon search and saw these two:

But I don't know for sure if they're the right thing for what I need (just getting a better connection to my computer for better output sound quality, I'm not recording or anything).

I would recommend using an internal sound card though, if you can...
Here is an awesome article on the Behringer by NwAvGuy that goes over everything in depth. My housemate has one and it sounds great!
http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/behringer-uca202-review.html
Personally I like external sound cards because I have a laptop and a desktop and if I need to use a sound card on either I can just move it. Also it gets it away from all of the electric noise in the computer case.
Where's a good place to buy a receiver in Sydney, Australia?
Need to get something with a good phono stage so I can use the turntable I wanna get.
Where's a good place to buy a receiver in Sydney, Australia?

So I realized my woofer foam was rotten after I took the case off.

These are pretty custom and pretty rare, but I've seen couple more around Finland.
I have a couple questions if you guys can help me out: how exactly do I measure woofer diameter (I measured it from the metal part and it was 8 inches) to replace the woofer and get new foam etc? Also where should I look for them and should I change tweeter and midrange (although they sound clean/good to me)?
Since it probably makes a big difference on sound depending on what I choose, I wanna get pretty damn good ones and hoping to get it cheap, cause I did get the speakers on a flea market for 8€ (12 dollars) and they sound great!
Also it has some weird foam inside of the case when I opened it up, it's full of it. Here are closer images:

I presume some guy thought it was a good idea to do that (does it change the sound dramatically/makes it better?). Question is, should I take it out or just leave it there? Why would I leave it there though?
Thanks a lot in advance!
My current set up:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/kpxlies.jpg[/t]
I've also got a mixer hooked up to the AUX port in order to get sound from my PC or whatever.
I'm looking to buy some basic speaker wire - is Monoprice my best bet or should I check elsewhere?

That's most likely been put in there at the factory. It's to cut down the internal reflections, if you think about how a room has a set of acoustic properties (Modes, reverberence etc.) the same applies within a speaker enclosure, adding the batting helps, most apparently in the mid range where you can get strange peaks otherwise. Speaker enclosure design is a science in itself.
Ideally when replacing speakers you should find identical replacements, a speaker enclosure isn't just a random shape. It has been designed to complement the mechanical parameters of the driver. If you can't find direct replacements then it's a case of finding data sheets and matching the specifications.
Anyone have any experience with Edifier?
They have some really sexy(and some really ugly) speakers.
I'd also like someone to tell me the advantages with these four options, if it's not to much to ask about:
Audioengine a2
Audioengine a2+
Audioengine a5+
Studio Monitors (generally)

Whoops... didn't merge :(

Thanks for the information. Yeah I did a little research and found it's called "speaker stuffing" but there was not much info about it. Though since there's literally only a couple results about the speakers google gave me (and I've seen one or two of the same in flea markets earlier), I only got that it's 3-way, 8" woofer, 8 ohms and that's pretty much it.
I also actually wanna keep the cones and just change the dust caps and foam surrounds (the surround was actually pointing inwards if it matters). Do you think I should still replace the parts or leave them (and probably find another speakers)?

I may be able to get a pair of Technics SB 3030 (pictured) speakers for about £20 or £30, they look OK to me but the world of audio equipment but I'm not an expert and I would really like someone's opinion here on them. I see them as a good replacement for my current speakers that came with my not so good "all in one" speakers.

So I managed to get a hold of some Morduant Short Festival Series 2 speakers, for £46. I'm bloody excited even though I've still got to find an base unit for it.
Got a pair of them myself, Along with a set of Pageant Series 2 and Festival Series 3. Got a pair of MS35TIs in the living room too.
Honestly are my favorite speakers, they sound fantastic. Nice find, you won't be disappointed.

I think it must of been your post when this thread originally got started that got me interested in Morduant Short speakers. Did a bit of research into them, internet seemed to give it the thumbs up too and together with their lower general asking price (Probably because they are a lesser known brand) I took the plunge.
I have a pair of EPI 1200's I got for $25 a while ago. How did I do?

Me being an EPI fan, I say very good. How do they sound? Are they all intact and working?
I just picked up a pair of walnut EPI 100's that I need to repair, this isn't my picture but they are identical.

I presume those aren't a picture of your particular pair of speakers? Because if there is I think there is something you can do about those crushed domes.
Anyway my speakers arrived today

I have Cadence's in mine. They sound pretty good.
I'm thinking about pairing this amp with my speakers. Would they go? Here is the spec sheet of my speakers which I dug off the internet.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/KZGlDVJ.jpg[/t]
I was going to suggest one of those cambridge audio amps, they come up on ebay all the time and they sound alright.
Yup, compatible. The speakers will take a bit more power than the amp can deliver but honestly not to the point where you will notice at normal sane listening volumes. I'm actually driving my MS35TIs with a small sony amplifier (TA-58) that only puts out 25WRMS per channel.
Man I spent hours browsing headfi and agonizing over what headphones to buy due to the fickle contradictory pompous nature of audiophile communities. For some reason it never occurred to me to check FP for an audio thread..
Anyway, I ended up ordering Sennheiser HD380s.

Hey I have the same headphones.
Anyways I'm very satisfied with these myself, as I used to own HD 280 Pros, these feel much better and sound much better.
