Hm, I feel I might be doing a few mistakes with my setup. I use a pair of Cerwin Vega XLS-215's, [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4249868/PC Bilder/Mobile Photo 18. mai 2010 19.24.32.jpg[/t] As for the amplifier, I use a NAD C375BEE One of my issues are my cables, they're 1 meter long, and pretty "stiff", they also barely stay inside the amplifier. Due to these cables, the amplifier has to stay at a very centralized posistion in my setup, pretty inaccessible, luckily I have a remote if I really need to access it. One of the things I'm wondering is if there's be any really noticeable loss to change from these expensive short cables, to some a bit longer and perhaps a bit more agile cables. Another thing that I think damages my setup is all the things my sound go through to go from my PC to my amplifier. It goes HDMI - TV - Splitter - Amplifier. Should I perhaps try to cut off a few steps? Here's a more updated picture of my setup, the amplifier is below the table around the center, and the second speaker is just off picture. Anything I should perhaps change?
One of the things I'm wondering is if there's be any really noticeable loss to change from these expensive short cables, to some a bit longer and perhaps a bit more agile cables.
I've not tested in a home listening environment however, I routinely use 10M long cables for my live sound setup. However, I use cables with a large cross section to minimize the resistance of the cables and therefore the loss. My long cables are 4mm2 and the shorter 5M ones are 2.5mm2. I reckon for distances within a home, 2.5mm2 would be ample. I use this sort of cable for the shorter ones, because it's relatively cheap and stands up to flexing: http://www.studiospares.com/cable-speaker-/speaker-cable-2x25mm/invt/548320/?VBMST=speaker%20cable Speaker cable is no where near as critical as signal level cable. Hell mains cable works fine.
Has anyone here had any experience with http://app.audiogon.com/?
Some day you will be mine [sp]maybe :v[/sp]
[thumb]http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/ballsandy/around%20the%20house/Theatre.jpg[/thumb] Sony fanboy by pure accident. After I ended up getting several Sony items my OCD kicked in and slowly repalced anything that wasn't Sony. I will agree though that there's better shit out there than Sony. My punishment is too many remote controls.
Awesome setup, do you have all those consoles hooked up simultaneously with AV switches?
All the switches at the top control I/O for all the components and consoles. No cable swapping required.
All the switches at the top control I/O for all the components and consoles. No cable swapping required.
Very nice, do I see two receivers there?
Only one. STR-DE515 + SDP-E800. The other big sony things are CD and DVD jukeboxes.

Also, have you a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) deck or cassette deck with Dolby S?

Saw some Sony SS-610's in a local thrift shop today, but I honestly can't remember the price. Probably $30 or less. Can anyone tell me if they're worth going back for?
price varies from 15 to 100 dollars for those, and back in the 70s they cost 84 pounds. http://audioidiots.com/merk.apparaat.php?apparaatID=4022 In my opinion, you may as well get them. I think there's few options when it comes to getting speakers under 50 dollars.
I'd only get them for under $10.
i have these speakers and the site says they have a frequency response of 55hz-24khz. does that mean they cant play tones lower than 55 at all? i listen to bassy crap so this is important
pretty much, it's possible if the measurements were taken conservatively that they can play a little lower. 55hz sounds about right for a cheap pair of bookshelves, least to me.
I realized I have no use for speakers, or room. Gonna have to let them pass
Ordered some new mids, I'll take some pictures when they arrive.
pretty much, it's possible if the measurements were taken conservatively that they can play a little lower. 55hz sounds about right for a cheap pair of bookshelves, least to me.
got some cheap desktop speakers with a sub that appaerntly goes down to 40hz. would that help at all?
definitely, though for more bass oriented music a 40hz cutoff maybe a little lacking. It won't be bad though, high quality bookshelves often go that deep.
Crap, I think I blew up my party speakers. Got 2 AKAI SA-1000's that I use for party's: 60W each, 10 inch woofers. My amp can only deliver 55W per channel so shouldn't be able to blow them without extreme EQ settings. Still since a while ago something is up with their sound, as they both sound as if their tweeters aren't working. (other speakers work as usual on the same amp). Really muffled. The tweeters look intact, but are glued in a smaller enclosure so I cant really check. The filter also "looks" fine. I dont have a capacitor checker on my multimeter though so cant really check either. :downs:
Could be damage to the voice coils in the tweeters.
Im kinda skeptical about damaging all 4 of them at the same time. You think that possible?
Considering saving for the Jamo S608 5.0 set (600 euros). 2 floorstanders, a mid and 2 bookshelves. Worth it at that price point y/n?
Im kinda skeptical about damaging all 4 of them at the same time. You think that possible?
Well if you overdrove one, you could have easily overdrove all of them at the same time.

Worth it at that price point y/n?
That's hella cheap for what I'd assume to be a new 5.0 setup, at least in my opinion. I haven't heard any Jamo speakers so I can't say anything further. If you're going to save your money for a setup I think it might be worth not being deadset on anything, you might find some nice limited time deals buying used or refurbished.
have you a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) deck or cassette deck with Dolby S?
Dolby S cassette on the middle shelf on the left. I've never seen a DAT deck for home audio use. No point owning it anyways when I got minidisc. Closest I've ever touched to that was a firmware option to play DAT on a SCSI tape drive.
any suggestions for subwoofer isolation? My friend insists on hockeypucks as a cheap alternative to this http://www.amazon.com/Auralex-Subwoofer-Isolation-15x15x3-inch-Charcoal/dp/B001140OZ0. I'm getting some unpleasant boominess and rattling in my room with a sub even at lower volumes.
I'd just get a few cheap kinetic rubber isolators, I've got my entire couch sitting on them. Partexpress has them.
these ajacks? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-9464 here's a much cheaper option, though they consider it a "furniture" isolator. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-9460
