Your common sense is a seatbelt. The AV is an Airbag. Now, for small problems, your fine. But, if you haven't done up your seatbelt, and you crash your car, the airbag isn't gonna protect you, as you go flying into the windscreen. If you get a virus because you're an idiot who downloads everything he sees, the AV won't protect you as you will still fuck up.
Someone already used the car analogy :D
Comodo Internet Security 4 Premium. Enough said. Also, Windows Defender was NEVER any good. I turned it off on my computer because it was so bad.
When you install Windows first thing you do is disable WD.
I've never seen WD detect anything for me.

Rule of thumb; Install Microsoft Security Essentials. It actually replaces defender, and it's actually pretty reliable for a free virus protector.

Huh? I thought they stopped support for Windows Defender after the release of Microsoft Security Essentials? Use this upgraded one. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
I'll also vouch for MSE, it's pretty good
