Thank FSM, my brother is finally having his unreliable, piece of shit Dell Vostro 1510 replaced with a desktop. This summer he's going to buy himself an inexpensive laptop for taking notes. For a little over $1000, I managed to get a HAF 912, Core i5 2400, Corsair 650W PSU, 1 TB Spinpoint F3, GSkill 4 GB DDR3, Asus ASUS P8H61-M, GTX 560, Logitech 2.1 speakers, keyboard and an 1080P Asus monitor. With the $135 in taxes and $50 in shipping, I'm about $88 over budget.
Why did you get the 2400 when the 3450m is $10 more and outperforms the 2500 by a little, not to mention runs a little cooler. 3450 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116506 2400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074 [editline]24th May 2012[/editline]
helios is the one true god Are steam purchases acting up for anyone else? I can't buy anything, already tried two different cards over paypal and one of them using the Visa option and I really fucking want Arma 2 CO since I have a long weekend starting today FUCK
Thor will kick that pansies ass.

Before it was paid for, I checked the price of a 2500 and saw that it had free shipping, which meant that it only ended up costing something like $4-5 extra.
apparently there's gonna be a recall on EVGA's 6xx cards, boo I was gonna buy a GTX 670 from them
apparently there's gonna be a recall on EVGA's 6xx cards, boo I was gonna buy a GTX 670 from them
I heard it was all the 6xx's, not just from EVGA.
even WORSE
Oracle are complete assholes, they're the death of the once great SPARC and they're the biggest asswipes to their customers. You want to use Oracle Database and it's not on Solaris/SPARC? Oh well, you miss out on crucial fucking security updates (Well, not exactly. They hid them deep on their site and didn't announce them, only released to fulfil contractual obligations). Not to mention the worst advertising known to man. I mean, look at this http://www.oracle.com/us/theavengers/index.html It's fucking hilarious.
Oracle does more for SPARC than Sun did in a long damn time. Sun kept rehashing the basically broken (high-latency-instructions, in-order) UltraSPARC family, then finally introduced... the Niagara. Because executing more than one instruction per cycle is just too 1990. The T4 is still uncompetitive, but at least it's superscalar and clocks pretty high.
I have a 30mm F1.4 Sigma coming friday. Cost me a good bit. I wanted to set myself up with a shotgun camera rig, but that would have added another couple hundred to it.
Is there any free (or cheap) software to automatically turn a webcam on/off at certain times of the day? Preferably something that can take small photos or something every few seconds so 8-12hr files don't get too huge
I need more bucks (to get to 25$) to get free shipping on amazon.ca If I pay for shipping it will be 27$ What should I get
I need more bucks (to get to 25$) to get free shipping on amazon.ca If I pay for shipping it will be 27$ What should I get
How many more bucks? If it's only a few, grab some extra cables
I heard it was all the 6xx's, not just from EVGA.
Only specific cards from EVGA GTX670 SuperClocked edition are getting recalled, they failed some quality checks or something and went through anyway.
So Oracle got pissy for a bit, threw around some vague threats, killed off all commercial development, and then just gave up and donated the entire project to Apache, who's done approximately jack shit with it for some reason.
I love it when companies that wave their dick around get stomped on and can't do anything about it.
I love it when companies that wave their dick around get stomped on and can't do anything about it.
Unfortunately OpenOffice was really a minor loss. They're making billions from SPARC by locking their customers in and same from Oracle Database. They're assholes, they wave their dick around like crazy and they barely get hit for it. Hell, they're the #2 Unix developer right now (UNFORTUNATELY).
Basically, if it uses a SandForce controller, stay away. The Crucial M4 is a good one, seems to be on offer a lit now too. I have a Samsung 830, a really good SSD as both the memory and controller are Samsung designed/made. A little more expensive than the M4, but is certainly the king of SSD reliability. CentOS, TinyCore, Slackware, Fedora, openSUSE, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, Mageia. Need more?
There is nothing wrong with sandforces. I'd actually stay away from the Intel 510's as those generally have higher write amplification than sandforce drives. Under a certain workload all ssd's will be bashed anyways. in other news, combined write of over 11TB split to two Agility 3's 120GB. It's currently now in my dads work station and running great. I'm running two 128GB M4's in RAID-0 now, OP'd to about 220GB, instead of 230+. The reason I'm using m4's is because the agilitys tend to stutter under SATA II. With SATAIII it's fine. ( I'm on X58 so FUUU ) My dads build is a Z77 with 3570K [editline]24th May 2012[/editline]
Intel is using Sandforce for the 530 and 330 SSD's now. Sandforce is fine now.
Intel 520 you mean :) [editline]24th May 2012[/editline]
I have a 30mm F1.4 Sigma coming friday. Cost me a good bit.
The M315? It's the best mouse I've ever seen for $20. Only problem is that it can be a bit awkward to hold at first, since it's shorter, lengthwise, but still the same height as a regular mouse. Don't know how much power the little USB bit uses, but I doubt it's much. Back when I used it on a laptop, I never noticed a difference in battery life from it.
normal mice are shit get this sexy beast!!!!!
Just switched my GTX 460 for my friend his 460,higher overclock,he doesnt mind,i have a better card now :p
Or you could, you know, overclock?
Well my card couldnt get above 875mhz core and the one from my friend does 910 core with ease... ASIC quality shows this,my card was a 65% and his is a 69% so it clocks a bit better.
IT BEGINS (apologies for shit image quality)
IT BEGINS (apologies for shit image quality)
I just built a PC with that same Blu-ray drive, same PSU and same RAM. fun fact.

http://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/u292y/whats_your_silliest_rookie_sysadmin_mistake_i/c4rru43 Just spent a couple of minutes typing this up, thought you guys might appreciate my old failure. Quote for those who are too lazy for links.
I used to run a HP-UX 11i v3 BOE box a couple of months ago, ran on an old HP RX2600 w/ dual 1.3 Ghz Madison Itanium 2's. Ran pretty well for a while, but we needed to compile some stuff, so I went to get ncurses. Found someone already had the library built so I grabbed that, unpacked it and here's my mistake: I used cp -R to copy all the directories into /usr If you don't know what this did, don't try it. It copied all the permissions from the folders I cp'd over the old folders in /usr, all the old files were retained but they got blanketed in new permissions, And HP-UX wouldn't let us SSH in or log in from iLO. So what we had to do was boot into single user mode over iLO, started SSHd manually and we messed with the permissions for about an hour, to see if it let us log in. Every time we fixed the permissions, the system log would throw out a new file that had incorrect permissions. So after an hour we gave up on trying every permission on each damned file, so we went on an IRC and found a friend who is an system engineer for HP, that we know. We sat there for about 2 hours while he quoted us off every permission for each files. Was an adventure and a half, doesn't matter too since we moved to RHEL 5 after (I don't know why, it ran much slower and used a lot more RAM) I've been thinking of posting this in /r/talesfromtechsupport for a while now, at least I can get it out here.

I wonder if this will work.
should've made a link to his post in the RC
Finally got internet access. Am I missed? [editline]24th May 2012[/editline] I see a Palit <3
I was under the impression that Palit was a "no frills" brand designed to undercut the others in price? Is it actually good quality?
I was under the impression that Palit was a "no frills" brand designed to undercut the others in price? Is it actually good quality?
aw, you got the colossus, i'm jelly, I have the Shinobi, great build quality and looks great.
Still need to get the OS... I'm running on the 30 day trial while I wait to see where I can get a cheap copy of Windows 7. I don't want OEM because I plan on getting an SSD eventually, plus I don't want to restrict my ability to upgrade. I can't find the old $50 Home Premium student deal in Australia. Has it expired?
