SO ANYWAYS
My laptop "situation" should be resolved now. They let me do the product switch for free (instead of paying the $50 price difference), and threw in free rush processing and fast shipping. So if all goes well, I should get it on Tuesday (Monday's a federal holiday in the US). Coincidentally four weeks, to the day, from when I ordered it.
My new hard drive and SSD should also show up about the same time. Interestingly, this means my total data storage capacity will nearly *triple* in one day - as of this moment, I have 960GB split between two machines, and two external enclosures. Between a 1TB hard drive for this Mac, the 750GB drive in the new laptop, and the 128GB SSD, I'll reach 2.8TB.
Which still isn't all that much. I should probably just buy a cheap server chassis and cram it with disks sometime.

That's my plan when I get this PowerLinux box (IBM POWER7 box, licensed only to run Linux and PowerVM, much cheaper than comparing POWER7 boxes. For example the current gen low end box is $20k, the only other POWER7 box with similar hardware is, iirc, the Power 730 Express at the same specs. I'm waiting for the next line to come out which should cost around $7k including a RHEL or SLES license). Just get 6 320GB 10K (Or 15K) SAS Drives with the box, RAID-10 them or something and I have 1TB (Usable, of course) of super fast, reliable hard drive space.
(Lots of things in parenthesis today)
Well, my local Chips is changing management, and they have sales on everything.
Picked up Deus Ex GOTY edition for 50p, not bad.
I can see what the hype around this game is about, it plays very well for its age.
Deus Ex is godlike.
I dunno, it honestly seems pretty legit and has a couple reviews backing it up. Doesn't seem like something easy to copy but I'd have to find an image of a 100% confirmed legit one to compare

That and the fact that they have confirmed genuine Logitech and Sandisk stuff is enough proof for me, I'll just buy it when I have the cash, and then I'll have 4GB of RAM on a computer that really doesn't deserve them.
Oi satanix caught you online how's the mail thing going
Why would you buy low quality computer parts from a overpriced and overhyped chinese shop?

I wonder if this really works, and can't be fooled easy with headers

I guess not, got 503's right after
I have a little problem here, my 295 GTX crashes to black screen more and and more often. By crashing to blackscreen I mean the monitor is not getting a signal and the speakers play a 1s long audio loop (whatever was playing during the crash). Today, I noticed my computer was blowing hot air while I wasn't gaming, just casually browsing. I checked GPU-Z, it reported 103 °C at GPU core and 94 °C at the main CPU sensor.
I have already returned 2 of these 295 GTXs to the manufacturer, last time I got the new revision with the single-PCB design. I had the exact same problem with the last cards too.
What do you guys think, can I convince the support guy to give me a newer card with equal performance, like the 680 GTX or 580 GTX?
Why would you buy low quality computer parts from a overpriced and overhyped chinese shop?
Because I don't have money for ~premium brand parts~ and if I bought them here they'd be more expensive than from DX.
I went to my friends house, we played some games.
During Portal 2, I decided that we should run HWMonitor. I knew that his GPU runs hot etc.
His poor HD3850 ran at 116C.

that better be passive cooling

Nope. The fan was running pretty loud. And he said that he has cleaned it many times.
Oh well, he is waiting for his 6770 to be sent to him, but that hasn't happened yet.

Yikes. Ricer case with awful airflow?
Yikes. Ricer case with awful airflow?
No, some cheap mATX case. With kind of shitty airflow. Everything is really fucking cramped, the IDE cable for his old HDD and a DVD drive does not help.
Oh well, he will be getting a new case and motherboard soon too.
Ah, IDE...
You know you're old when you still look for IDE ports on motherboards.
Especially when you have all SATA drives.
I saw this on a job site and I wonder if "counter intelligence" means "not intelligent" in this case. Either way, I wonder if anyone applied thinking they would be part of the CIA.

I wonder what sort of connection will replace SATA? Probably nothing, for hard drives and optical drives (even SATA II is more than enough for those), but there may be some sort of ultra-high-speed connection for flash-type devices (especially if other solid-state tech like racetrack ever takes off).
I know OCZ was once pushing their "HSDL" 20Gbps tech, but that never seemed to take off.

I'd like a connector that functions like a rail, you just slide it into a case without dicking around with cables. All drive types have this connector in the same position, so everything just slides in and that's it.

Is that an error, or a sentient floppy drive that likes dubstep?
I can't tell.

I wonder if the MIDI wavetables actually were sampled off a floppy drive...

I'm hoping it's an error.

God, that would be a horrible Terminator movie.

I've seen plenty of sellers selling 4GB DDR3 Laptop RAMs on eBay and other shops for half the price that offers free worldwide shipping

it's being controlled via software iirc

Actually, the Mac Pro does that, at least mine. You just put the drive in a little caddy thing and slide it in, it connects directly to the motherboard.
It's actually been a bit problematic for me - you can't mount 2.5" drives in the caddies, and all the 3.5"->2.5" adapters I've seen don't put the ports in the right place. So my laptop drives can't be used in it.

I'd like to see that in desktops, and tool less mounting as standard.
No doubt dell would fuck it up with some proprietary bastardisation.

Nope, according to the video description, it stopped reading floppies and now just "plays music" instead.
Aka it borked

It makes for rather bulky cases, though. Since it connects straight to the mobo, the drives are rotated 90° from normal, and the rails take up a decent bit of space themselves.

Surely it could just be a strip down the side of the drive cage at the front, with a cable coming off at the bottom.

I still have 2 IDE connectors on my Mobo that i bought 2 years ago :v:
