Go for the One X. The S3 is a joke.
Go for the One X. The S3 is a joke.
Come on, it isn't by a long shot. And doesn't the One X have a locked bootloader (I don't know whether the S3 have this as well). I'll put them on the side of eachother, they excel in different areas.
Go for the One X. The S3 is a joke.
I'm amazed at how ugly they made the S3 look.
The S2 is a very nice looking phone, while the S3 looks ugly as hell (all IMO)

But, besides aesthetics, the S3 seems like a good phone to me.

Ok, I'll rephrase. Samsung pretty much set a very high standard for themselves, the S3 fell well below that.

The bootloader has already been cracked on the AT&T one X.
Sadly been ignored in the questions thread so far so let's try again here.
How important is the GPU when it comes to video editing and rendering?

It being locked isn't that much of a major drama, just means I have to flash boot.img via fastboot. Totally worth it for the amazing design of the phone.

The S3 only looked bad on the official renders. In real life, it's a pretty good phone, and it doesn't look ugly at all.
can anyone help me with this?

Its that awful home button that kills it for me, the rest of the phone looks absolutely fine.

"Awful home button 2/10 would not buy"
It has the best specs on the market iirc, stop being a picky bitch and get one already.

Because good specs = good phone straight away right?

I'm sorry but no, this is dumb.
Why would you buy a phone you know you're going to hate? Why put yourself through that because it has "The best specs on the market".
No.
Being picky is perfectly fine with phones.
Ok, I'll rephrase. Samsung pretty much set a very high standard for themselves, the S3 fell well below that.
Well, I agree, but calling it a joke is dumb.

I understand you have to pick one you like but dismissing the entire phone because of the home button is a bit silly.

All things equal better specs = better product.
Since it runs android and samsung can't afford to take any major design gambles it's gonna be pretty much a phone like any other, only with great specs.
Well, I agree, but calling it a joke is dumb.
Yeah, I think I was a bit over-hyperbolic there. But I'd have to say the One X is the better phone due to the design. I mean, the home button is something you'll be using a lot and I would have to say it's at least a medium issue.

Er no. Android isn't the same phone-to-phone. There are so many different UI's for different brands, Samsung has Touchwiz, HTC has whatever they have and so on.
[editline]27th May 2012[/editline]
Not to mention different phones have different application support, look at the Sony Experia Play, for example.

And it's all mostly user customizable.
They all run the same apps and function near the same. Sure the Samsung UI is different to HTCs but in the end that difference is mostly aesthetic, some buttons are in different places and one UI has some minor features the other one doesn't and vice-versa but it's still an android experience.

But not all still run the same apps, Samsung has their own separate store for their phones only and so do many other manufacturers.

Overall Id say the One X is the better phone, but the S3 is slightly faster, especially in the graphics department. I find it funny how the One S has the fastest processor of the bunch, though.

The funniest thing is the iPhone still has the best GPU of the lot, It honestly seems at times like the others aren't competing.

I'd wager most people just use the play store.
It's like comparing distros of Linux, they use different UI's that take some getting used to and come packaged with different software but it's still Linux and there generally aren't any earth-shattering differences.
Samsung, HTC, sony, yes they have differences but they're still running the same OS. Whenever I have to help mom with something on her sony xperia it generally takes me a few seconds to adjust to the UI differences from my HTC. I can't speak for sony here but I can't imagine they did something radically different.

Except to the end user, the UI is the experience. You can compare Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Kubuntu, but until you get down to the core, they're vastly different in usability, and that's not what matter, there's also physical aspects of a phone that can affect usability, it wouldn't be fun to have a phone that constantly slipped out of your hands, would it?
As for the S3 vs one X I'd have to say S3.
I have a one X and and I wasn't very impressed, I'm assuming it's down to HTC's UI but it's pretty sluggish. Way more so than I'd expect from the best specs on the market at the time. I rooted it and flashed it with Android revolution HD and it's just so much better, everything is smoother. Before the flash I tried playing Fruit ninja because I saw how it performed on a friends iphone, it was so smooth on the iphone and it was lagging on mine, freezing for a few milliseconds whenever I cut a fruit. After the flash it's smooth as butter.
Also the one X screen is IPS which has some lag and some ghosting, the S3 uses super AMOLED which from what I've seen of OLED screens is way faster and smoother.
If you wanna root it then the one X is fine but I'd still go for the S3.

What here do I actually need to install?

That depends on the user doesn't it? Also I'm not denying that the UI is a part of how you experience a phone but my point was the differences between manufacturers are negligable to the point where they should be considered as a tie breaker (one X vs S3) but in my opinion should not hold significant weight in the choice when several other factors like screen and hardware specs are far more important.

Lucid Virtu is a must, and probably the LAN driver.
