What here do I actually need to install?
when I tried installing the VGA driver for the mobo, i got bluescreens, so unless they've updated that, you probably dont need it. apart from that though, you should install the Lan and all the usb 3 drivers.
Lucid Virtu is a must, and probably the LAN driver.
i never really understood it, what exactly does it do?
(Lucid Virtu I mean)

It shuts down most functions of your dedicated GPU and renders everything on the CPU's IGP, to reduce on power consumption and then loads it into the GPU's framebuffer, so it does 2 things. Saves on power and you can switch between the two without any flashing or any of that crap. afaik, you can set it to run automatically when GPU is idle or you can manually switch between the 2.

With Virtu software, next-generation PCs with 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ processor platforms will dynamically balance the advanced power-efficient, built-in media features of Intel Core processor graphics with the high-end, DirectX 11 3D, anti-aliasing and performance features of discrete GPUs, while significantly reducing the power drain of traditional entertainment desktops.
Yeah, I copypasted that. Was the first result on Google.

USB 3.0 driver, Windows 7 doesn't have it's own drivers for that.
Made a cool discovery, well confirmation, today. It's possible to compile things with Mono on a Raspberry Pi and have it run on x86 Windows.
I had a suspicion before but never had anyway to confirm it. Got the chance to use a RSPi and tried it. Unfortunately it took about 25 seconds to compile a simple Hello World program and raped the poor CPU, still works.
As for the S3 vs one X I'd have to say S3.
I have a one X and and I wasn't very impressed, I'm assuming it's down to HTC's UI but it's pretty sluggish. Way more so than I'd expect from the best specs on the market at the time. I rooted it and flashed it with Android revolution HD and it's just so much better, everything is smoother. Before the flash I tried playing Fruit ninja because I saw how it performed on a friends iphone, it was so smooth on the iphone and it was lagging on mine, freezing for a few milliseconds whenever I cut a fruit. After the flash it's smooth as butter.
Also the one X screen is IPS which has some lag and some ghosting, the S3 uses super AMOLED which from what I've seen of OLED screens is way faster and smoother.
If you wanna root it then the one X is fine but I'd still go for the S3.
The screen on the One X is by far better than the pentile SAMOLED on the SIII. Also Tegra 3 has better support from developers even resulting in exclusives for the platform. Also HTC's Sense 4.0 is pretty damn good. I hated it but they've made it lighter and smoother. With your response to the Fruit ninja thing that was because on the official HTC builds they haven't included the latest tegra 3 fixes also the core scaling is pretty messed up. If you want to see that best performance in games try CM9 or MIUI.

The IPS screen of the one X may be nicer to look at but I seriously doubt the AMOLED isn't faster. This is a personal preference of mine though, I can stand the color fidelity being off or viewing angles not being great but I can't stand ghosting.
Thanks for clearing that up about the performance, I already rom flashed this to android revolution so not really interested in doing it again for a little bit of improved performance, it's fine as is.

I really do love the look of HTC sense now, its toned down quite a lot and looks a lot more classy than touchwizz.
Can we stop with the pentile shit? The displays on the S3 and one x excel in different areas, but don't the the pentile shit into the discussion - of course there's a difference, but from what I've read, you can't really see the difference at such a density. I don't know if you read Engadget, but in the review of the focus 2, they said that the display suffered from the pentile arrangement, and therefore the Lumia 900's display (which they claimed was an AMOLED+) was better, despite the higher density. Problem is, the Lumia 900's screen is also pentile. This leads me to believe that it's starting to be a bullshit argument - not irrelevant, but overblown.

Even on a nexus S, I can only JUST notice the pentile arrangement.

I hate when people start arguing over Pentile, I really do. It's a perfectly fine technology, unless you hold your phone 2cm away from your eyes you're just not going to notice it.
Sadly been ignored in the questions thread so far so let's try again here.
How important is the GPU when it comes to video editing and rendering?
Have you tried searching on google? When I ignore something, it's generally because it's a question google can answer. And on top of my head, I'd say the GPU helps a bit, but it probably depends on the application. The CPU is still to my knowledge quite a bit more important.

Oh, I'm so doing this, the battery cover picks up scratches a little too easy for my liking.
The parts for the i3 2100 / GTX 670 build arrived!
It is my 4'th build for a friend, and has been the most problem-free one this far.
The only "problem" I had was getting that 24 pin connector into the motherboard. Nothing seemed bent or anything, but it took a ton of force. (And i HATE having to force something into place)
The build doesn't make a damn sound, we ended up having to turn off everything else in the room to even hear it :v:

Idle temperatures are amazing
Was wondering why my H60's pump seemed so loud compared to other people's experience of it, turns out I got one of a very select fucked up batch that runs the pump twice as fast and has a "tolerance issue in the ceramic bearing around the pump shaft". I love my crappy luck, guess it's RMA time in a couple weeks

except on my Sabertooth Z77 with 570 all it seems to achieve with it on is ~20fps frame drops in games (although it does slightly improve the media transcoding as it's supposed to) (and yes my monitor is plugged into the 570 not the iGPU)

All I could find were posts on forums from 3-4 years ago, hardly relevant.
If you have the right program, you could probably turn the GPU into the CPU if it would work better for some reason. I know my brother does that.
Finally got around to jailbreaking my iPhone again.
I hate not being able to remember shit that I had installed before.
Smae thing happened with my iPod. Lost it, then I got it back, forgot password, and had to restore it.
Countless apps, man. But I'm getting them back.
Also, for a simple password to not forget, I made my iPod password TiTs

It's not the apps. It's the jailbreak tweaks I had. I know I had a live wallpaper, got that back and some notification shit and toggles but other than that I can't remember the names of anything I had...

Wait, so what happened to your iPhone in the first place? Did you lose it or something?
since you guys didn't guess
I'm installing Windows XP.
Running XP here.

Lock button broke and the camera was glazed over from being dropped. Got it replaced at the Apple Store in my local mall. It was already on 5.1.1 so I couldn't jailbreak. They just released a 5.1.1 jailbreak a few days ago.
If you knew they they wouldn't have a newer version of Cydia, then you could've written down the important tweaks and whatnot.
Running XP here.
Normally Windows 7 (ignore the Safari on Mac thing by my post, I have my phone browser in "desktop mode").
but I apparently have enough gamers that don't play nice with Win7 that I actually need a partition for XP.

I doubt a piddly little fan would have had enough force to grind a cockroach, it probably just seized up.

If its as old as I think it is, then they only had little 40mm fans on processors.

My Penitum 4 Medion from 2001 only has a 60mm fan.
While on the subject of Medion, they have such a high build quality that the CPU heatsink is attached by using three of the correct screws and one wood screw, it's actually bent some of the heatsink fins.
