dude, I had an awesome idea for the Civilization series
historical events
Like say for instance, you're at war with most other nations on the planet. Your country might wind up doing the Holocaust, which would have an affect on your country and other countries for a good long time. Or if you have a state religion other than Buddhism, and you're a totalitarian government, your country might host that Buddhist monk who burned himself alive. Shit could also happen completely at random too, like 9/11.
It wouldn't all be bad though. There have been plenty of good historical events. Like if you have units in the territory of someone you're at war with, one of those units might find and kill Osama bin Laden. Or Galileo might be in your country when he figures out the earth orbits the sun.
And of course I wouldn't mention shit like this unless there was a gameplay element attached to it. For instance when Osama dies that unit might gain a level of experience and have "increased confidence in his work" (boosted health) for a few turns. Or if you're the Holocausting country other armies might "become infused with a moral purpose to the war" (deal increased damage) until you make peace with everyone.

Probably really late on this party, but its pretty as fuck.

Honestly you guys should just take off the Computer Illiteracy part because that is basically nonexistent which is a shame really

It actually shows up from time to time, it's rare, but it happens.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
You could split up this thread in a CIPWTTKT thread and a General Chat thread, but the new CIPWTTKT thread would end up dying soon enough, and in the end you'll just end up with this thread.
Honestly, I don't care if you do split up the thread or not; I'm just saying it would most likely be pointless to do so.
It's stupid separating it. CIPWTTKT has been come to known as the General chat of H&S. It's not what it originally was, it's mostly general chat now, we do get the occasional CIPWTTKT story.
Sipwicket is like a brand name, what would happen if Apple changed their name to "Overpriced Computers"?
So my hard drive has failed and I'm sending it back, I was filling out an RMA online when it showed me this:
"By clicking the "I agree" button, I agree that HGST products will not be used for the design, development, manufacturing, testing, stockpiling, or use of biological, nuclear, missile or chemical weapons."
I got a good laugh out of it.

I had the same thing when I ordered my Dell Business laptop.
To the guy who wanted to buy the HTC Sensation, you might want to think it over. The Sensation has an odd screen res, which not many apps support. Other than that, its a pretty good phone.
Android is resolution independent, its not an iPhone where devs have to rewrite their software if Apple ever release a slightly different shape device.
In theory it is, however in practice shittier apps don't do different resolutions so well. Layouts don't just magically adjust themselves to fit all resolutions.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Although I might be wrong on this, but iirc ICS has made huge strides to make apps work on different resolutions.
Android has the Dp unit measurement for a reason, devs are advised to use it in every single pertaining document on the android wiki I've seen.
Its their fault if pixel density goes through the roof and text is now a millimetre high.
Also, varying display density drawables are a must in your app.
Well, if you can't see Turing for a while, it is because his HDD died badly.
During day, he was complaining about windows being a faggot and not accessing its files. But later on, he saw other things not working. Then he realized that there is something worse going on than just Windows being dumb. It was his HDD.
Okay, what do I do when my HDD fails? I get another (External HDD maybe?) drive where I can backup. Half way through backuping (And seeing many files already being corrupt) he realized that the backupdrive is clicking. Shitty time for that, aint it? Let's hope he can get a new HDD and get his files from the external one before it dies.
Also Makol, he said that he hates you. Bad time for taking his HDD.

I wonder how well that works as a case fan.
I bought a new battery for my ThinkPad because the current 6400mAh I have (originally 7200mAh) is not enough juice for me. So I bought a 8800mAh one. Opened it, it is labeled 8800mAh, charged it.
Fast forward 3 hours later, it is charged, I look at the time remaining and it looks suspiciously low.
kondraki@SCPFoundation:~$ acpi -V
Battery 0: Discharging, 97%, 03:30:47 remaining
Battery 0: design capacity 6242 mAh, last full capacity 6242 mAh = 100%
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Do you guys think I can get a refund for this? The item title and description both said 8800mAh.
Yes you can
Why wouldn't you be able to? The product was not as advertised.
Sent a message to the seller, told him that the capacity is wrong and I want the battery ordered else I'll ask for a refund.
...Did you buy a battery off eBay?
Fucking IBM.
I go to install DB2 lite version (Excludes extra's that I don't need on the server) for Linux on my new VPS.
Extract the gzipped tarball and I have to go through a bullshit amount of folders to get to the installer.

Yeah. I am not paying $150 for an OEM one.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
Genuine ThinkPad batteries are terribly overpriced.
Mine is like 4500mAh :/

You don't buy batteries off eBay, It's like paying someone to put a bomb in your laptop
