So amazon kept having trouble accepting my card for the second part of my order (was about 2 cents short, fixed that), but the microphone got shipped and is at my local post office. I got this email today, and this makes no fucking sense at all. Aparently they canceled my entire order, even though they charged the price of the microphone to my card.
But at the same time amazon says that everything has been shipped
In other news I recently bothered to actually look up how bitcoin works, and it turns out you can make a decent amount with a recent high-end GPU, especially AMD, and that if you haven't already, now is always the best time to start mining as the difficulty of finding new blocks of coins continuously increases.
1. Download the official bitcoin wallet at http://www.weusecoins.com/getting-started.php but skip their steps for "getting bitcoins" because they usually don't work.
2. Register at a miner pool so you can help find shares, the most popular one being https://deepbit.net/
3. Download the latest version of GUIMiner: https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=3878.0 and select your video card, install the most recent drivers (with all components) if your card doesn't show up. You can run it on the CPU if you want, but you'll only earn 1/100th-1/10th as much. Here's a ton of benchmarks on lots of GPUs and CPUs: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison For a quick example, my 5850 gets 300-350 MHashes/sec, and my Q6600 about 2-3, but GPU mining only uses about 1% of the CPU or less.
As a rule of thumb, you should earn an amount of bitcents per day near your combined MHashes/sec, divided by two, divided by ten, which can be multiplied by about 5.5 for USD, or see the converter in the top banner of https://mtgox.com/ (largest bitcoin exchange) for other currencies.
Items can be purchased with bitcoins at btczone.com or bitcoindeals.com and using my above config, I should earn enough for a free 16GB flash drive in a few weeks.

So how's the electric bill?
So how's the electric bill?
Not mine, although I usually run it at night with a big fan with the windows open when it's less than room temp out anyways. Probably not much worse than when we got the Volt?
1336x768 looks awful on a 15" laptop.
After 1440x900 to 1366x768, I can agree. Going from 1680x1050 in 15.6" isn't as bad, but it's still pretty darn noticeable. Just wait till Apple puts out the Retina 15" MBPs. Then even 1080p at 15" will look terrible.

It's called 4K ("2160p") and youtube already supports it. Set playback quality to "original":

It's well known that the 13" MBP and 15" MBP will have a Retina Display option and it's still unkown if the iMac will too, more than likely they will though.
No word on the ACDs though.
Apple's design team mustn't know about the word "Compatibility"
Hopefully this all means that higher than 1920x1080 screens will become cheaper
Apple's design team mustn't know about the word "Compatibility"
What'll be incompatible about Retina displays? They'll scale down perfectly to half their size, in the case of the MBP 15", 1440x900, even Apple themselves have a high DPI mode in Lion that doubles the size of everything, essentially putting the machine in 1440x900, only significantly crisper.
Now, you can't have a monitor of that DPI on windows because the scaling in windows fucking blows.
150% DPI? Lol, lets just stop flash player working properly in full-screen, you totally need that taskbar overlayed.

You would be better off with one of the computers off Brazil.
Tiny display and a huge Fresnel lens.

Man, having so many wireless issues. Thinking about a new router (gotta have a modem integrated), any suggestions on what to avoid or use?

Cisco EPC2425 (cost about 25 Euro). When i'v been running around fixing networks they have been really good to work with and i'v not seen anyone break down other then faulty settings
I'v not seen that many others honestly, but i like to use that one. Got a Thompson at home. Router is good but UI is shit

Netgears have never failed me.
Netgears have never failed me.
My current one is actually a modified Netgear supplied by my ISP. It's been good for a few years, but it's playing up constantly now, randomly dropping out, assigning the same IP to multiple machines, and generally being shit. I just got a new PC where the network adapter doesn't even work with the router, and so I have to use an old USB one (even then I often can't connect).
Never get any of these issues connecting to other networks - though i've only been able to test with adhoc networks and my phone's tethering function, so I figure I may as well upgrade.
Netgears have never failed me.
Sort of the same, but I had my router for years, like 8 and it started dying during lots ofuploading. So we invested in the Asus Black Diamond and it works wonderfully.

Our problem though is that we cant have newer routers if we don't get the Cisco combined. I did't know that when helping this older man. His old router had died somehow (lightningstorm the day before, i think it was that) so i helped him pick a new, cheap one. Turns out that it had some new bank of settings that completly locked up the modem. Could not access router interface at all. No internet access though the modem. They somehow conflicted. I ended up, as adviced by ISP helpdesk, to take the modem over to my apartment, start it up there and bring it back
Goddamn shitty 10+ old modems

The only incompatability I had fixing somebody's router + modem was that they used the same local IP, meaning you could only connect to the first one you were plugged in to
I'm using one right now. It's horrible, it actually drops out every time someone calls even though it's on a filter and so is the phone, restarts every few hours and the signal would drop out even if I'm next to it. Thompsons are really horrible pieces of shit.
I don't think the modem is supposed to be filtered. Another thing that could be an issue is the wiring in your house, if it's old or simply not done right, there's going to be a lot of noise on the line and that will cause similar problems.

Has anyone used a Broadcom Crystal HD card? My old netbook runs XBMC fairly well, though it can't handle HD video playback at all.
