Um, last I check Apple didn't force anyone to do that.
They just stop supporting the older OS's. I doubt they support Leopard at all anymore, and they've already dropped all support from the PowerPC days, even though they had a perfectly functional emulator.
That doesn't force anyone to do anything really, and they still sorta support Leopard.

I can't even watch 720p stuff on borderless fullscreen because it looks all weird and shit
The pixel density on the new iPad is completely absurd. I mean, sure, it's cool that you can watch higher than 1920x1080 videos fullscreen but it's not really necessary. In fact, I'd quite prefer it if the pixel density of my next, potentially larger display would be the same as of this one. I don't really even need a much higher resolution. Sometimes I want to see the pixels!
Hey, anyone know what might cause this? https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8664592/ZScreen/2012-06/Screenshot-2012-06-13_16.55.21.png This is a friend's computer, he just built a new machine pretty much and stuck his old hard-drive in. Yes, we checked that the Windows Update service is running.
In my opinion the resolution is pretty neat, while it may not be completely necessary.
In my opinion the resolution is pretty neat, while it may not be completely necessary.
I get the feeling that part of the reason is "Well, because we can"
I get the feeling that part of the reason is "Well, because we can"
More like "well, because people will buy it".
While I see the use of a pixel density that high being useful on a desktop computer, an iPad is completely unnecessary at that res.
Well he literally said "Apple computers are overpriced" They're expensive, yes, but if you're comparing a MacBook to your average shitty DV6, the DV6 is noticeably worse in quality You don't buy a Mac to play games either, and it's not like there aren't a few games for Mac OS either (Diablo 3 anyone) And he was like "well apple forces you to update so your java can actually work blah blah blah" That's like saying "You have to upgrade from Windows 98 to XP to get the latest java" which, y'know, all computers have to do once in awhile (upgrade, that is)
Sorry, but no matter how you turn it, they're overpriced. They might be worth it to some people, of course, but that doesn't change the fact that they're overpriced. And why would you compare a Macbook to "your average DV6"? Compare it to a different product with the same quality and a different price tag, that's how you check if something is overpriced. Not saying your friend isn't an idiot, but it isn't like you don't have your own ways of getting around different matters.
Look they're overpriced if you don't think OSX and the Apple design are worth it if you do they're not overpriced
I find that there's a place where reasonable costs go in - design, OS, so on. As said someone might think it's worth it, but compared to the profit margins, they're overpriced. Other companies sell the same hardware for less and make do, therefore they're overpriced. Whether you'd pay more for an Apple product is entirely up to you.
well and $300 more expensive and not as locked down and with better specs... also aren't most chromebooks sold with a 3G plan attached or something?
I know that beta chromebook users got 2 years free of 100mb 3g It has a sim card slot too under the battry - but be very careful if uses your own data plan as it will not report your useage to you so yeah...(Pretty fucking stupid that they havent done anything about that or with its on bored gps... ) Im deeply countering formatting and putting Some flavor of luinx on it... I love the...(Is it rubber?) finish on it... easy to clean and non of that plasitc shiny shit that's gets dirty in 5 seconds (I have a aspire one... UGGHHHHAAAA...) If you wanna use your own 3g plan you can but it wont report your useage to you and yeah... that's kind of a big deal... at least allow me to set a limit...but no... All that said i still love my chrome-book... i just wish things were... a bit better... I have been thinking of putting some flavor of lunx on it i just don't know what
I don't understand having such a top-of-the-line screen on a laptop as Apple is doing, but I'm glad they're shaking the market and getting us out of this fucking "1080p is the best thing ever and we should stick to that resolution" thing. Maybe one day, they'll make a screen good enough to handle my massive misuse of the Desktop folder. I swear, you could mount the fucking thing as a root partition and boot into Ubuntu.

Goddamn, crazy camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7ho-poi9_Y&feature=fvwrel Audio quality is fucking crisp as well.
Well 808 had not only that ridiculously large (41 Megapixel) sensor but also some super Nokia audio technology that was awesome. I think.
The grub setup is awkward however.
I don't think I ever even touched my grub settings. Unless booting to Windows wasn't enabled by default.
HNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG: I just got an 128GB Samsung 830 SSD for $99 after shipping and tax. And speaking about ssd's, I really do hope this "partner" deal with a certain vendor works. Free RAM, and Free SSD's. RAID-10 512GB SSD's overprovisioned to 400GB each. 800GB of whopping RAID-10 SSD storage, then 2x1TB SAS 7.2K in raid-1. HNNNNNG. One can only dream right?
