This may sound weird and silly, but would there be any problems with Radiation in old laptops? I found my Dad's old Compaq Presario V3000 and there seems to be a subtle effect where I get dizzy whenever in close proximity to it

Older laptops often had a small nuclear reactor in them, as battery tech was not good enough. Sometimes the shielding degrades over times, Leading to side effects for users. This also explains the weight of older laptops
$4/hour is the wage. For that.
That's below minimum wage for minors in the UK.
Wow...

They're a bitch to clean up when they leak

I always said, those RTGs (Radioisotope thermoelectric generator) that we used before NiCd and NiMh were way, way better!
Now it's all Lithium ion these days, still not getting anywhere near the nuclear generators.

I wonder if I could salvage one from an old-old laptop and place it in my Thinkpad, even though I am really concerned about overheating.

Wow I had better contact my local bomb disposal to detonate it in a controlled explosion and then rush myself for decontamination
Apparently the diablo 3 server emulator have already been released
Good job, Blizzard, you sure showed them pirates!
I had a look around the interwebs.
Apparently, everything is completely fucked about it.
Some guy was doing 2000 hits at level 1, when you're supposed to be doing about 2-4 and the mobs dropped 2000 gold. The only way to get a mob to drop 2000 gold is probably Inferno Act 4 with gold find gear.
Because of the damage shit, you're looking at facerolling through however much of Act 1 the script kiddies bothered to datamine, and then you'll hit a brick wall.
Oh and the auction house actually is a pretty required feature in Diablo 3, so enjoy grinding gear for a couple of years all by yourself just to get through Inferno Act 1/use cheats, if they're available.
I wouldn't suggest it to anyone, at least the WoW server emulators work.

I know a few people who would pay you for a such old, retro laptop that has an RTG in it. I can arrange it for you, are you OK with shipping to the Middle-East?
Well this is interesting.
Someone found a security bug in the processor - every single 64-bit Intel processor handles a certain condition wrong, which can lead to privilege-elevation under any OS that doesn't compensate for it.
Oddly, both Linux and OpenBSD fixed it several years ago, but nobody seemed to think it was a security issue.
Anyways, pretty much every 64-bit version of Windows is vulnerable, as is the Xen hypervisor (which led to several Linux distros that include it by default to be vulnerable). No word yet on OS X.
It's not really a huge issue, since it requires an attacker to already be running code at user-level in order to work. But still very interesting to read about.

Oh yeah, I saw this a few days ago, funny part is this is AMDs fault (Since x86-64). If Intel won the 64 bit race and ia64 (Itanium) did take over this wouldn't be an issue at all (Ok, it's not really an issue.). It's kinda funny, really. Oh, and yeah, I mentioned Itanium; Deal with it.

So i was a bit bored and decided to have another look in an old dell computer i'v had on my shelf for a time. I'v had plans to turn it into various times, Server/NAS/whatever for some times but the problem have been a faulty HDD. Problem was that there only was IDE posts on the mobo. Well, While bored watching some stuff on my laptop i had a look.
Down at the edge, just by the PSU (It's on of These btw) i notice a bit of white plastic. It looked like a 4 pin power plug. Thinking it was a bit odd i had a look.
Plastic came off and there was a shiny (and dusty) SATA coonector
Dell, You sneaky motherfuckers
Now to find a flash drive and see if i can find something fun to do with it. Got some spare ram lying around too
So.
Retina Displays.
Asked my dad for any kind of info on them, all he did was tell me three screen sizes.
21" 24" and 27"
hmm

I was waiting for Apple stuff before I made a decision on my next monitor, I want 30", no compromise. Guess I'll be taking the HP.

It's gonna suck if the Apple 27" ends up having like double the resolution of the HP. :v:

It will, that's a given.
There's a prototype in the wild. No idea where it is though, only saw a picture.

Don't care. Tears.
So I have to ask, does anyone here have an AppleTV 2nd or 3rd gen? Thinking about buying one.
Now that I'm thinking about it I think my dad was referring iMacs and not ACDs, that would make more sense really.
Now that I'm thinking about it I think my dad was referring iMacs and not ACDs, that would make more sense really.
Pretty sure that's a given, too.

If there it will more than likely be very tiny, or in a TV set lol. Can't really do much with that thing when it comes to changes.

I meant that Apple wouldn't make a 21" ACD.
This day turned out to be mroe fun then i thougt. I'm using a screwdriver, hammer and an old floppy drive holder to make a new HDD bay for the Dell :v:

My experience with this kind of thing resulted in the floppy holder getting cut out of the case, then cut in half, split off so only the sides were left, then welded back into the case.
I have no fucking idea why I did that but never again.
