valve use it.
I believe it was mainly used because it was high-compression but also fast to decode, compared to standard video codecs. It was also packaged with other useful middleware, making it a logical choice for game companies. Doesn't really make as much sense to use it anymore - I don't think I've seen it in years.
I'm pretty sure i saw it in some games released this year [editline]5th May 2012[/editline] I think Bf3 uses it
you're going to break it
Uh nope. just like an android phone it simply wont boot if overclocked too far, its sitting happily at 800Mhz right now.
http://www.macrumors.com/2012/04/26/first-gigabit-wi-fi-routers-ready-to-launch/ I think it's time for Brt to upgrade.
what exactly does bink do? I see it in all the splash screens
Plays intros and prerendered cutscenes I don't see anything wrong with it tbh
It's a proprietary video file format (.bik) I have no idea why they use videos over real time, i always hate it when im playing a game in good quality, then some shitty cutscene plays.
I love it when you're wearing a super suit of armor with a massive machine gun or something yet you decide to strip naked and hold a pistol for a cutscene, only to put everything back on again.

They take the time to real time render the cutscene, why not use my loadout for it?

We'll do more people enjoy it.
:frog: [editline]5th May 2012[/editline]
I personally hated how my character in BFBC2 would always have his shitty looking toy gun in any cutscene even if I walked into the cutscene wielding an LMG and a sniper rifle. [editline]5th May 2012[/editline] I have a question. If you own the PS3 version of Portal 2, you get the PC version for free. Where do I go to get my free PS3 copy of the game?

So I think I'm going to get two Kevin Mitnick books for my birthday and two books about Steve Jobs. I've heard good things about Art of Deception.
Recieved a gutted laptop from a friend today. HP ze4400, AMD athlon and 512mb of DDR ram. Smells like server to me, gimme ideas for awesome enclosures. [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] The case is ruined beyond any hope of reuse but all the components are included I'm pretty sure and as far as I know it all works.
I've heard good things about Art of Deception.
I've read it, brilliant book, I'd definitely recommend it.
@chipset pictures?
Both Mitnick books are brilliant, no idea about the Steve Jobs ones though. [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] Also, have some pictures of my ThinkPad T61 that I got for $150: [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15832809/IMG_20120506_015216.jpg[/t] [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15832809/IMG_20120506_015427.jpg[/t] Found this in the bag: [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15832809/IMG_20120506_015419.jpg[/t]
I've currently got the official biography of Steve Jobs and I, Steve. Both are pretty good, the second one is just quotes though. I love his presentation style and I figure having that would help me if I go into business at some point. I'll also grab a couple books on Stallman/Linus, Bill Gates, etc. I want nerdy books and business books to replace all of the novels on my shelf that'll be next to my desk.
I have the biography of Steve Jobs my grandparents got me for Christmas. I refused to even have it my room and haven't started reading it. Okay, frankly I refused to have it in my room because my bookshelf is almost literally full of books, vidya games and random stuffs but the cover fucking terrifies me. I'm serious, looking at the book makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't think I could sleep with a picture of Steve Jobs in my room. [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] Also because for some reason the life of some random guy does not interest me at all. [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] Even if said random guy founded a company that makes lodsamoney by selling overpriced and damn pretty electronics. [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] And well okay Apple used to be better that and the way I see it there was actually a reason to buy a Mac when they were still using PowerPC because it wasn't just another x86 comp [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] This is why I should sleep at 3am [editline]6th May 2012[/editline] I'm making myself seem like an anti-corporation, anti-Apple, anti-hipster douchebag which I sort of am but not to too big a degree
good luck sleeping with steve's zombie face in your room
Mine is currently on my night stand because I can't fit in on my shelf with all of these books that I hated after reading them. :v:
It's not realtime rendered.
What, I had shadows on low and could see blocky shadows, it even lagged, didn't seem like a video at all.
I'm about 50% through the Steve Jobs book, a little after the part about the iTunes and iPod introduction. It's fascinating how he gets stuff done, though you can't disagree that he was a complete asshole to many people. If you have the book, I would suggest getting your ass off Facepunch to read it. The book can go a bit slow at times, though it's definitely worth reading.

"Oh, I'm Steve Jobs... let's just ignore my family and daughter for most of my life."
The only biography of Steve Jobs I ever read was "Steve Jobs and the NeXT Big Thing" - written all the way back in '93. It's not a complete biography - it *starts* with Jobs leaving Apple, then ends with the then-present of NeXT discontinuing its hardware division. It paints a vastly different picture than the "savior of computing" some now see him as. It basically chronicles his biggest failures, showing *him* as a failure. Because, at the time, he was - NeXT never made a profit, and none of its products were ever successful.
-snip-
Probably missing a backup unit. not sure why this was the first thing I thought of but okay
