I don't go for HSF that can't atleast do 50C load on a 140W TDP.

Is there an advantage on going for Z68 over Z77? (Genuinely don't know).
Learned 2 things today, people hate Arch and love cheap heatsinks.

One thing you haven't learned is how to take a hint.

people hate Arch because it isn't all the great and YOU have high expectations for heatsinks

Okay, fine.

Hanlon's razor.
seriously who's fucking genius idea was it to set "Root on NFS" to enabled by default in the Linux kernel config
it's like they want me to maim orphans

I actually like Arch. Granted, I have not used it *that* much, and never as a desktop.
I mainly like the init system on it. Most Linuxes use a far-too-complicated runlevel-script system. Arch does it the BSD way, far more accessible and understandable. Or at least more familiar to me.
I was going to put an 8-16GB Arch partition on my new laptop (once it arrives), since that would be better for work. Although I may switch, if it turns out Arch sucks as a desktop OS.
Only distro that is outright impossible to install.
Arch, I find, is the only distro that gives you a fairly detailed guide on how to install.
The idea I always had was that if you can read you can install Arch.
i remember when everyone here wanked over arch and thought it was godly
lol those were the days

I like the way Gentoo does it.
It's still runlevels, but instead of fucking about in /etc/rc#.d or what have you, all the scripts live in /etc/init.d and you use rc-update to tell it what to run at startup. For instance, to tell it to run vixie-cron at startup:
rc-update add vixie-cron default
If you later decide you don't want it there:
rc-update del vixie-cron
(That second one could be off, I don't remove things often)
There are other runlevels (boot, etc) that you COULD potentially mess with, but it's not recommended.
Fedora is a better desktop, FC17 is coming out in 10 days.
Use a *program* to configure something? What is this, Windows?
Plain text conf files FTFW.
so no one is going to answer my question about shrinking windows xp?
[editline]13th May 2012[/editline]
they're just gonna keep arguing with the obvious troll?
so no one is going to answer my question about shrinking windows xp?
Can't you use "nite" or something, I forgot what its called it allows you to strip features from XP iso. But you should just install Linux.
so no one is going to answer my question about shrinking windows xp?
Only thing I can think of is "don't install service packs" - I remember running XP on a 3GB partition without much difficulty, but I think it was only SP1 back then.

Well SPs tend to eat up disk space. I had XP on a 10gb drive before, but that was forever ago.

i specifically need windows for this
also the program you're thinking of is "nlite" - thanks!
So after like a week of work, I finally got my window AC unit installed into a custom window enclosure that my grandfather, father, and me build, cut, and assembled. Allows for greater insulation, security, stability, and keeping more of the cool air in.
Currently moving from 81f normally in my room to fucking 60f, the coldest it goes. my GPU's at idle went from 36-37c to 29c on both. Gonna make my room a fucking icebox since it's been so hot lately. Then probably going to cool my room to like 74f ish if I can.
My room goes between 79 and 81f normally, hot. Right now I got it to 71f according to my remote on the AC unit. I got one for like four times my room size to chill it the fuck down.
[editline]12th May 2012[/editline]
When I walk out of my room I start sweating. THis is fucking awesome. I love going up north and sitting in the downstairs in the winter. Sitting next to the fire in a blanket while the room is like 40f is so nice.
People always complain how cold my apartment is. And I keep telling them it's the only way to survive Florida.
Electric bill aint bad either, surprisingly.
This thing uses about 6-7 cents per hour by my calculations., Been running it for 16 cents. I should plug it into my Kill-A-Watt.

My dad walked in and said, "What are you doing?! You're going to kill yourself in this blizzard!"

We still need to sort out the mounting. We just tacked a screw in to keep it in place.
[editline]12th May 2012[/editline]
8,000 BTU's for a room that you can barely turn around in.
I could hang meat.

I need a new battery
Good luck replacing the battery on an iPod
Cant wait for Trinity based notebooks on the 15th, gonna get one to replace this shitty Intel based laptop. Apparently there are going to be APU hybrid crossfire ultrabooks.
I really hope Trinity nukes Intels entire mobile line.

Lucky. Both of your GPUs are cooler than my actual ambient temperature.
I wish I could fit an air conditioner in my room.
today i learned nlite is actually a really nice thing
it's not done yet but when it is, i'll tell you how much of windows xp is completely unnecessary
