No, you want a SGS II or a HTC One X.
The III is a giant amorphous tumour.
Why would you ever give a shit about looks if it's better? I could understand if it was literally a piece of garbage, but it isn't. The One X is pretty cool, though, and I haven't seen a review of the GSIII, but still - stupid just throwing an option because of looks. And recommended the SGSII in its place is just idiotic.
I'm looking to buy a laptop. Need it for uni and some gaming on the side. I've got a budget of £800 and I'm looking at the Acer 5755G.
Anyone got any other recommendations?

I wouldn't care if the thing ran on an Intel Xeon and had a battery life of a month, it still looks like a bleached turd.

Mmm, a blowing brt ;)

anyway, I don't think the SGSIII looks too bad.
Sure, it's not great but it's decent.

If design means such a big deal to you, why not go for a Lumia or an iPhone? Don't take form over function.
If design means such a big deal to you, why not go for a Lumia or an iPhone? Don't take form over function.
Because the iPhone looks old, runs a crippled OS. And the Lumia, while looking incredible just runs another crippled OS.
No matter how powerful the thing is I still do have to take design into account, and while yes the SGS III is the flagship android device spec wise right now, it just isn't good enough.

They should have kept the paper bag over its head.
why would you spend $180 on a case, jesus
Because he wanted to? I plan on buying a TH10 case, which starts at like $600.

and saying that iOS and WP7 are crippled is fucking stupid and you're a bigot
android suffers from many problems that iOS and WP7 don't
Such as?
Such as?
mostly performance problems, but all platforms have those problems
android is still largely partitioned
until they released ICS the UI looked dated
they keep stuffing in more hardware because they're not going to bother making the OS more optimized (iOS and WP7 running just as well if not better with less hardware)
and most importantly
android isn't objectively better than any other mobile OS. hands down. it's a matter of preference.
[editline]13th May 2012[/editline]
for the record I work at a software development company, everyone there who always owns an android is constantly complaining about it. these are all technically apt people.

1. Because ios looks so revolutionary?
2. Android has nothing to do with the hardware phone manufacturers put in the devices, and the reason they stuff in better hardware is because they can, not because it's needed.
3. what you mean is ios and wp7 aren't able to do many of the things Android can, which makes then lighter to run thus requiring less than Android to run "smooth". Just compare a jailbroken iPhone to a stock one and you'll e the difference immediately.
Oh and for the record, i go to college with very technically apt people with iPhones, and all they do is moan how they can't do what i can with their phone and how slow it is compared to mine.
1. Because ios looks so revolutionary?
I didn't say that. Compared to GB it looks less dated.
2. Android has nothing to do with the hardware phone manufacturers put in the devices, and the reason they stuff in better hardware is because they can, not because it's needed.
You just said exactly the problem with Android. Manufacturers don't optimize the OS to the hardware. Android doesn't have any hardware standards. It runs terrible compared to iOS and WP7 on the same hardware.
3. what you mean is ios and wp7 aren't able to do many of the things Android can, which makes then lighter to run thus requiring less than Android to run "smooth". Just compare a jailbroken iPhone to a stock one and you'll [notic]e the difference immediately.
Some of us don't want to or don't need to fuck around with our phones. iOS and WP7 is perfect for us. In my experience Android has never been able to provide a quality out-of-box experience, while iOS and WP7 has. (Of course, this is a subjective point.)

Good for them - they bought an iPhone for the wrong reason.
It all comes down to a matter of preference, they're great OSes and their competitiveness is great for consumers.

Yes. I'd reckon that 80% of complaints regarding mobile phones boils down to an uninformed purchase. Know what you want to do with a phone and do your homework.
I should mention I love all the OSes, I just absolutely hate Apple/Android fanboys. There's nothing wrong with being an OS enthusiast but when it comes to the point of complete ignorance it's just ridiculous.
Also the Lumia 900 apparently helps you get with the ladies.

I keep seeing the Lumia 900 commercials on TV and I keep thinking
"my god those commercials are so full of themselves. 'THE SMARTPHONE BETA TEST IS OVER' omg shut up"

They are crippled in the sense that they cannot be configured to do EXACTLY what you want out of them.
Android has a major update problem and a lack of developers following UI guidelines, thats pretty much it.
We have had this argument before, it will go exactly nowhere. And in the end the SGS III's design will remain incredibly underwhelming.

First point is opinion.
Second point is true partially. I just don't like the fact that Android runs amazingly on some devices and then is lack-luster on others.
Third is true.

So many people get fucked by some asshole company selling shitty Android phones. That's partially a problem with the OS not being budget-friendly, but that's the manufacturer's fault for cutting corners.

Its open source nature is both its greatest asset and its worst problem. With such flexability comes the ability to fuck it up too easily.

Don't forget the fatal flaw, lack of support. I'm going to sound insane, but it doesn't get the support it needs. There's no incentive to work on open source projects, what are you going to get out of it? Hell, programming's a very high paid job, average is something like 100k+ a year. Why do it in a situation where you can't get paid?
Other than that, it's all coo'

i just realized that we have no monitors in this house that take HDMI
Mine does.
I want to try it just to see what monitor speakers sound like.
I'd probably laugh.
