It adds up quickly. On my system there are 3 processes for my antivirus, 5 for LogMeIn, 4 for my sound card, etc. I've got plenty of RAM so I just leave them running for when I need them.

I thought Chrome ran so many processes because of the extensions, and because each window has its own process. Since a window will crash the browser will stay up fine, and the processes them self aren't that much.
