I honestly find Opera slower then Chrome without turbo. I am not going to make the switch permanently trying it for a week or so
Opera is a lot faster for me, and I've used both browsers for a long time. Are you sure it's not because of the cache or the redraw time?
Using it now, runs pretty smooth with Turbo on.
Gonna try Opera, I have the mobile version on my HD2 and its brilliant.
Just tried the latest 10.52 build and it's awesome. Everything seems a helluva lot faster, and the interface feels a bit snappier. [editline]03:18AM[/editline] I think part of it is because the cache works better now. Loading different pages from the same site seems a lot quicker [editline]03:32AM[/editline] Memory usage is a lot better now. 10.51 seemed to have memory leaks, but this version seems to keep the RAM usage at a decent, stable level.
Very good.
Bump because 10.52 is out. [editline]07:03PM[/editline] Oh, and the Mac version is finally out too.
What changed from .51 to .52 to make it that much faster?
What changed from .51 to .52 to make it that much faster?
From what I understand, they improved the javascript and rendering engines. Also, they fixed the annoying cache issues. Now images in the cache don't always have to be reloaded.
Also, they fixed the annoying cache issues. Now images in the cache don't always have to be reloaded.
Cool. Also there are two things which are pretty important to me: Fixed issues with pages never stop loading Fixed a crash with various third-party apps on Facebook It was very annoying when it crashed during loading of Farmville.
Why have I never seen this widget: http://widgets.opera.com/widget/15552/ This might be the first widget I actually use.
I don't read eBooks at all. I hate reading from monitors, especially from CRT ones.
Also, they fixed the annoying cache issues. Now images in the cache don't always have to be reloaded.
Doesn't appear to be fixed for me, images are still being reloaded every time.
Doesn't appear to be fixed for me, images are still being reloaded every time.
Try manually deleting your cache. I haven't had any problems.
10.53 is out. Patches up a vulnerability and fixes a couple other things.
Fixed an issue where multiple asynchronous document modifications could be used to execute arbitrary code; see our advisory (http://www.opera.com/support/search/view/953/).
Personally I prefer MisterMooth's version, because I can actually understand it.
Has anyone here experienced problems with flash? Slowdowns, image tearing, choppy playback? At first I thought that flash player 10.1 prerelase I had installed ws the culprit, but I have the same issues with stable release. Thing is, I´ve encountered this only in Opera, chromium plays everything flawlessly. Any input would be appreciated. Edit: Just noticed that opera.exe is using about 480 MB of memory. Time to close some tabs I guess :)

I knew that this thread will be bumped when I saw the new blogpost.

could've sworn i trolled one of these opera threads either way, damn that update looks good.. I hope firefox catches up.
I might consider using Opera for now, but I know once Firefox 4 comes out I'll switch back in a heartbeat. Nothing can top NoScript and Adblock Plus. I've never had any problems with Firefox except for trying to run it off a flash drive on my school's extremely slow computers.
I've just installed it and it feels faster than whatever the latest official was.
Yeah, it does. I love the new Speed Dial and tab previews too. Opera's interface just feels so much... snappier, and I have quicker access to the things I need. Chrome is also right behind for me.
Yeah, it does. I love the new Speed Dial and tab previews too.
I'm not too sure on the new speeddial background, could do with being a little more subtle.
I'm not too sure on the new speeddial background, could do with being a little more subtle.
I agree, but you can disable it easily enough anyway.
I'm not too sure on the new speeddial background, could do with being a little more subtle.
It basically changes with every theme and you can also change it individually so i wouldn't really see that as a big point.
Nothing can top NoScript and Adblock Plus
Opera has (at least) similar features.
i can't switch to a browser without an equivalent to NoScript
