i can't switch to a browser without an equivalent to NoScript
It is possible to block scripts in Opera...
...I think.
The block list blocks graphics and scripts....and pretty much everything from the adresses you give it. So as long as you have a good filter list you can think of it as a more manual equivalent.
You can disable javascript in Opera. You can also set it to block/not block js on different sites too.
I've been using Opera for a long time, but I've found several problems with the newest version.
-You can now only bookmark things once
Trying to stop your bookmarks getting filled with duplicates is a good thing, I guess, but what happens when I want to bookmark something in two different folders? I have to bookmark it, find it in my bookmarks, then copy it into the other folder. That's a lot more awkward than before.
-Windows 7 task bar
With the default Windows 7 task bar (although I have mine to not group etc, so it looks more XP/Vista like), you can no longer click on the icon to maximise Opera again. Now you must click on the tab you want to open. I want the last tab I opened to show up, not have to find it in the list every time I minimise. This is especially annoying as I have Windows 7 on my laptop, so I have to switch backwards and forwards a lot as it has a single small screen, rather than high-res dual screens like my desktop.
-Animated tabs
Disabled. They were incredibly annoying, in a similar way to the Google fade.
-Crashed
Opera has never crashed on me before version 10.x, ever (well, once, but that was when the whole computer went into meltdown). With the first versions of Opera 10, it still crashed far less than anything else I've used, but it still crashed more often than it should. The newest version now decides to stop at random moments every so often (still less than FF, and way less than IE). It's annoying when I have 20+ tabs open and it has to load them all again when it restarts.
-Lack of menu bar
Why does every software developer now believe that menu bars are stupid, useless things, and instead either give us giant icons spread over several tabs (yes, that horrible ribbon Microsoft prides itself with), or give us a single button with everything in it, like Opera. You can however, thankfully, disable this.
-Theme support
Just about every theme I had for the last version now looks horrible. There is also an absence of any decent colours, so I'm now stuck with the plain basic Opera look, with its tiny quirks.
-Shortcut changes
A golden rule that should be followed when updating software is not to drastically change how it is used. A lot of the shortcuts have been changed in the newest version, causing annoyance and slowing me down. For example, Ctrl+B used to be Paste-and-Go, but now it opens the panel, which jsut takes up space, and the bookmark tab on the panel. I keep pressing this to speed me up so I don't have to paste then enter, but instead I have to close the bookmarks panel, close the panel thing itself, then paste and go to the URL the old-fashioned way.
I'm also annoyed at the cahnge of the wand to a key. Tiny changes like this have made it seem more clinical and unpersonal.
Apart from these chages, I do still lvoe Opera, and would never think about switching away from it. It is by far the best browser I have ever tried.
Just my opinion on Opera 10.50.
You can disable the W7 thumbnails thing in 10.50 easily enough.
It's disabled by default in 10.60.

This very much. I have that disabled as well. However, the new menu structure is still there and it's just plain annoying when you try to look at the source and Dragonfly pops up which of course takes some time to load up. Also some functions just feel generally more unaccessible.
I fucking hate the click-to-activate patent issue, it's such fucking BULLSHIT that you actually have to pay for some patent to DEACTIVATE a certain function in your program...
Anyone know when it'll be fixed?

Yeah, the people who hold that patent are massive dicks.
http://my.opera.com/d.i.z./blog/2009/01/28/eolass-bites-the-dust
You can fix it with that. I tested it and it works in 10.53, but I haven't tried it on 10.60 yet.
[editline]11:52PM[/editline]
Just download the patch, extract it to your Opera directory and run the patch

[editline]12:01AM[/editline]
Just tried it and yes, it does work on 10.60.
Awesome! Thanks mate
No problem
I still hope that Opera will fix it some time, but I don't want those patent fuckers to earn lots of money...

Don't really think there's a workaround for this.
But with HTML5 taking over, it won't be too much of a problem in the future.

Remember to check out my skin fix guys. I'm sure there are people here who don't like the gap above the tabs.
[editline]12:39AM[/editline]
This also moves the Menu button to the very top-left of the screen, which should be much better.
Everyone thinks that HTML5 is going to completely replace flash.
It ain't.
Flash has now become a major part of the internet, and while the type of sites that currently use flash for large parts will start using HTML5 from now on (not all of them though, and ones with it at the moment won't change without good reason as that will cost them money), but things like banner ads etc will still be flash, most of what's already made in flash will stay in flash (if it's not (completely) broken, why fix it?), and then there are the millions of flash games and movies that will continue to use flash. That's still a lot of "click to activate".
One other thing that annoys me with Opera now is that the last option on the context menu when you click on an image is now "Inspect Element" instead of "Image Properties". I keep opening Dragonfly when all I want to do is look at the file size or something, then I have to wait for it to load to close it.
@Zak1392
Is the thumbnail thing in the opera:config bit?
Has anyone else been noticing crashing recently? Mine's been going crazy the last couple of days, and I though it might just be one of my tabs (Opera doesn't seem to handle having lots of tabs open as well as it used to), but one of my friends mentioned that it had been happening to him, so I was wondering if anyone else had this too.
Edit: Is there any way to turn off the stupid thumbnail tab thing? When you middle click on the bottom of a tab, it opens the thumbnail thing, so I keep opening this annoying pointless feature when trying to close a tab.

Yeah. Have a search for "Windows 7 Thumbnails" or something.

The stable 10.5x releases never crashed for me at all, despite always having open at least 15-20 tabs. 10.60 hasn't crashed for me either (which makes me wonder why it's an "alpha")

Right click on tab bar -> Customize -> Untick "Enable Thumbnails in Tabs"
Thank you so much. That was really annoying me.
Damn, so now I have to blame my computers instead? I thought that it might be the fact that I had like 50-60 tabs open, but it still did it with about 10, so I can't figure it out. When it happens on two different computers on two different versions of Windows, I do have to think it is Opera. Do you use Opera link?
I love Opera link. That's a brilliant feature of Opera. Just thought I'd add that to the thread.
The widescreen speeddial on 10.60 looks good. It annoys me that there's massive margins at the sides, but if I add another column, it jsut shrinks them all and leaves the margins the same size.
The whole "hey lets remove the menu bar and hide it behind some buttons so it will take longer to do simple things" is so retarded

I do use Link; it's one of my favorite features since I'm always using different computers/installations.
Does it crash on any specific pages? It could even be a plugin issue, so it'd be best to check if your plugins are up to date/reinstall them. Also, try cleaning your cache and other junk files. Make sure you submit your crash logs too.
Are you using an updated installation? It could be worth it do do a completely fresh install. This is what I do every update.

Er, you can easily enable it again.
I prefer it this way anyway. I like having the tabs at the very top, and the extra screen space is great. It's no wonder Firefox is pushing through to do the same thing.

I know, but I think it should default to being on
[editline]04:22PM[/editline]
Most people are probably way more familiar with it being in there
Does Opera have Live Bookmarks (RSS feeds)? That's the thing that's stopping me from switching to any other browser.
Does Opera have Live Bookmarks (RSS feeds)? That's the thing that's stopping me from switching to any other browser.
Yeah, it has a full-featured RSS reader built-in.
Of course
And you can change the frequency of checking for news.
Honestly, Opera's RSS reader is the best I've used as far as programs go.
I use Google Reader though, since I can check it from anywhere.

Awesome. Is there any way to put it on a toolbar of any sort?
Awesome. Is there any way to put it on a toolbar of any sort?
By default, it shows up completely in the sidebar once you've enabled Mail.
I'm not sure what you mean, but you can add a button wherever you want that has your feeds in a dropdown menu.
Just click this and drag it where you want it.

Not as far as I can tell. It also can't be a plug-in issue (unless it's flash), and I did end up just installing 10.50 in a new directory to get a completely clean start when the old one started freezing, but it still messes up. Luckily Opera Link saved everything, and all I had to do was copy my wand file across.

10.60 beta is out.
We should make an Opera megathread or something, since it's been some time since 10.5 release and we're talking about 10.60 beta already.
