It pisses me off that Vista and 7 are necessary if you're a gamer. Too many new games these days demand that you have Dx10 to enjoy the game :argh:
No, there aren't many DX10 games. And even less games which look worse on DX9 than on DX10. The real reason why you need to upgrade is because the newer OSs are better.

Notice how they skipped right past DX10 and are now moving onto DX11? Which, so far, doesn't look that amazing either. (At least, that's my opinion after seeing the DX11 DIRT footage)
I'm too lazy and poor to upgrade to Windows 7. Plus I don't think it would run on my laptop or my mom's laptop.
Too many threads complaining about W7: "Bawww, why can't we use 3.1?" I've been using W7 for months now and it's been awesome so far.
But DX10 will eventually outclass DX9 and completely replace it. When that day comes, XP users will be major butthurt...
Considering VALVe still supports DX7 on most of their games, I think not. People will have upgraded by the time that day comes, don't worry.
Considering VALVe still supports DX7 on most of their games, I think not. People will have upgraded by the time that day comes, don't worry.
That's because VALVe have been using a 5 year old engine all this time.
That's because VALVe have been using a 5 year old engine all this time.
They're using a 5 year old engine that they keep tackling features to. It took them 4 years to drop support for DX7 and 8 (L4D has minimum requirements that include DX9.0c), so I can't imagine XP users bitching in another 5 years when their games won't run on DX9.
good fucking bye XP, we don't need your 8 year old crap anymore. also, good read. http://www.driverheaven.net/articles.php?articleid=137&pageid=3

Its still sold with some netbooks. I don't think the support will go away any time soon.
xp still has updates? i never get any... but no, not possible, xp is not open-source so it's not going to community supported... have a box [editline]12:23PM[/editline]
Windows 7 is possibly worse than Vista. It has a horrid interface when upgrading from XP, user controlling and all kinda crap that XP has simple. Also, most drivers aren't compatible. INCOMING DISAGREES, WINDOWS FANBOYS PATTING THEMSELVES ON BACK WOO
i thought 7 has universal dirvers, because i didn't have to install ANYTHING.
Thankyou everyone for your views and everything, But we can come to one conclusion - Windows XP WINS
Only over Windows 98SE.
Vista made XP look like shit, and 7 basically made XP look like outdated, unsecure shit. Despite it being horrid, many people are going to use XP until they get a new computer. Mainly because Vista and 7 don't run so well on older machines.
Exactly. And a lot of people have no need for a new computer. They bought their XP during the "computer revolution" in the early 2000s when the internet really took off and everyone started to get PCs
Maybe because ico files can have multiple icons...in various sizes, various color depths etc. Whereas a png icon is only one single file and doesn't scale that terribly well. Just look at icons and compare the list 16x16 icons with a normal sized one - it's actually not just a scaled down icon.
SVG icons are really nice. Linux uses them and I jizz all over the screen.
I see no problem with XP, so I'm going to keep using it. My computer sucks anyways.
I see no problem with XP, so I'm going to keep using it. My computer sucks anyways.
There's nothing wrong with XP, it's just old. New technology is phasing in.
I really, really want to use Windows 7 since I can get it for £30 (Being a student paid off :woop:) But well shit.. I'll notice a performance drop since my rig was built for 2005/06 games, I can barely run L4D and TF2 on Medium settings and I really can't be arsed building a new computer, let alone saving up for weeks for one. :frown: Guess I'll have to stick to Windows XP with this rig.
