You can easily throw in a $20 one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
I assume that one is pretty great to your standards? What about the 16-18$ ones?
It doesn't really matter which one you get. You'll probably only use it once or twice anyways.
Okay then I'll get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151244
Where's the disk drive?
I more or less assumed you would use the one in your old desktop. Disk drives haven't evolved at the rate that other hardware has.
Order is processing now. [editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
I more or less assumed you would use the one in your old desktop. Disk drives haven't evolved at the rate that other hardware has.
I can't do that because my little brothers use the other pc. [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] Now that's dealt with, my friend wants to sell me his old monitor for 100$. I see a lot of monitors on newegg for way less than that. What should I do?
Now that's dealt with, my friend wants to sell me his old monitor for 100$. I see a lot of monitors on newegg for way less than that. What should I do?
I'd recommend this monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236204
Now, is there anything pretty good for even less money?
Now, is there anything pretty good for even less money?
Not unless you buy refurbished monitors.
Are those reliable?
Are those reliable?
They can be iffy. I'd tend to stay away from refurbs because of the varying degrees of quality.
Are those reliable?
Depending on the manufacturer they can be. Samsung has a great replacement system in place so you could take a chance on them. Otherwise, you're playing Russian roullette.
Oh wait, none of them are in stock. I'm just gonna go ahead and buy the one you showed me. [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] I keep trying to press proceed to checkout, but it keeps saying Error 400 BAD REQUEST [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] Nevermind it worked on google chrome [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] Thanks a lot guys I hope this works out in the next week or so.

So you could feasibly be building this by Wednesday or Thursday.
I think one of the best building PC building guides I've seen around is from Raze the World.
Newegg is really fast. 3-5 days standard shipping is what to expect. So you could feasibly be building this by Wednesday or Thursday.
Yeah from what I saw on cyberpowerpc (10-20 days), this is really great.
Don't just dismiss pre-built machines on price. The market slowly fluctuates and sometimes the price margin can get pretty close. A few years back (09 I think), my uncle had found a PC that he wanted and asked me if I could build him one cheaper. After a lot of searching I managed to make a list that was £30 cheaper, that's including everything except my time. He gave me £20 for putting it together, saving him a grand total of £10. To put the icing on the cake, the motherboard had been used as a football in transit, so I had to wait for a replacement which took another week. All in all, not great value from his point of view. If the market is leaning toward pre-builds, shipping and tax will rape any savings you find on components. You have to find one place that will sell you all the parts you need, in one shipment, for a price that is lower than everywhere else. Generally you can, but don't just assume.
There's one thing a prebuilt can't offer over a custom built PC The massive e-peen boost :v:

Generally you can, but don't just assume.
This is only going to be true for extremely shitty machines generally speaking, at least here in the states. 90% of the time when ordering parts my total cost of shipping is less than 10 dollars, so I don't know where you get that from either. Additionally, you have no control over the quality of the components. I've seen too many 'gaming computers' with caviar greens, PSUs at 60% efficiency, motherboards incapable of supporting ram speeds over 1000Mhz, 4x2GB ram setups, etc, to ever trust one. example In the 400-500 dollar range, yeah things start to get pretty tight, but I've yet to see a 450 dollar prebuilt that comes with a 1080p monitor and an i3. It's all phenom IIs and 768p, which are absolute garbage in comparison, and only exist because they make POS 300 dollar COMPAQs at best buy and wallmart possible. Even if you can't really compete with that, there is extremely little reason to do so. It's a piece of shit that is going to need replacement in 2 years.
As of now, all the parts have been shipped. I hope they get here by friday. [editline]2nd October 2012[/editline] I've been going around newegg for a while, and they keep mentioning "overclocking". What is that exactly?

I think I may need a wireless card. Are there any good cheap ones you guys know about?
I think I may need a wireless card. Are there any good cheap ones you guys know about?
How cheap? I'd get a dual band card if you plan on gaming.
I looked up dual band cards, and they're $40+ Do I really need one of those? The wireless access point is just in the other room of my house.
I had a regular old cheap ass wireless card and my modem was 10 feet away ( across the room so there was no place for a cable without tripping ) and I got shitty pings in games, 110+ and always had fluctuating speeds. ( anywhere from 10 KBps to 1.6 MBps ) my laptops wireless card has dual band mini card and I never had any of those issues.
What about this one? Oh no. Did I just waste my money on that?
Did you forget a GPU or did you just not post it? [editline]3rd October 2012[/editline] Wireless USB adapters are a bit of a gamble, but you'll find use for it no matter how it turns out. You're best off with laying a cat5 cable if it's just in the next room, though.
