POSTing for me takes easily half of my boot time. It's fucking annoying.
Well atleast you don't have a truckload of raid controllers that all take +8 seconds of time for the "Press a key to enter the options menu" wait time.
Does it count if it didn't boot up?
my raid setup takes too long too looaaaadddd
From power on to login - 37.7 seconds Shutdown - 12.4 seconds awesome 2005 hard drive
That's not booting.
Define booting, do you mean the time from power button pressed to log in screen or?
Power-Up to login: 0:49 Login to usable desktop 0:07
5.71 seconds from power button pressed to being completely logged in. SSD RAID 7, EFI, W7 Ultimate stripped
show's over folks, this guy wins Mine's something like 35 secs
25 seconds is pretty long for a POST some BIOS have a an option to do a 'quick' POST which skips memory checks but I'm guessing you've already looked for that
Every current BIOS has quick POST enabled by default, since it makes no real sense anymore checking the RAM. Still there do exist really crappy BIOS which are slow as fuck. I have such one too (10 seconds), and it annoys the shit out of me. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
Just wondering, how did you get EFI... ?
Get a motherboard with an EFI instead of a BIOS.
Who cares about boot time anyway? My PC is rather slow in the boot sequence, but I do something else when it's booting. What matters more to me, is the performance/speed when it's actually on.
This is true somehow, but wouldn't you like your PC coming up very fast when you are in hurry?
I never sit by the computer if I'm in a hurry but if that would happen, sure I guess. :v:
