You could also buy a cheap VPS, and set up your own private VPN. I am currently Cyberghost, since I am too lazy to set up a VPN myself.
no dice, I'll try out strongVPN and see how that goes [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] I'll look into a VPS as well, but right now I think I'm gonna try out a VPN since I have little to no experience when it comes to this kind of stuff

sweet, strongVPN is working, but that was just barely. I've no clue what PPTP, L2TP and SSTP means but only the SSTP option worked. at least I'm safely behind a VPN, finally.

This is because I self-signed it.

I really like it, and is opensource and cross-plattform.

Privacy and security has always been really important to me, and I'm really glad to have helped another person out.
one last thing though. the speed of the VPN isn't exactly anything to brag about. 4 mbps down and 0.10 mbps up. don't think I can't get much better anyway I guess? doesn't hurt to turn off the VPN whenever I need the speed either.
Most VPN provider offer a slow free service, and a Paid service that has high speed access.
says that the speed in unrestricted in their information thingies http://strongvpn.com/packages.shtml I bought the cheapest one, lite pptp

Would have been better off with a 3$/month VPS somewhere with OpenVPN on it.
What kinda speeds do you normally get without the VPN? Try pinging the server and see what ping you get.
around 70 mbps down and 8 mbps up. pinging their server gives me "TTL expired in transit".

he wouldn't be able to block the VPN service itself, right? just the website? so I could use the VPN I have now, then use that to purchase cyberghost for example and claim a refund from strongVPN? [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] probably the smartest, yeah. no idea where to go looking for one though [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] really sorry for bringing VPN talk and the like into the linux thread, but I tried the free package of cyberghost to see if I could connect, and well no I couldn't. do they have an IP or something I can use to connect directly to their server?
I personally use keepass for my passwords. I really like it, and is opensource and cross-plattform.
Looking to move to Keepass from LastPass. Is there any non-botchy way (i.e. using KeepassX, not wine/mono) to get autofill in Firefox?
Oh hey, wayland actually runs for me now Nothing supports it yet, but hey, it runs
- Snip, guess I'll ask in the Technical Support section. -
I just compiled my first kernel
Linux schrodingers-hamster 3.12.0shodan #1 SMP Sun Nov 17 14:00:41 CET 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I removed stuff like wireless, bluetooth, radio, intell optimisations, SELinux, etc.

Was a ride to hell and back, until it worked.
I remember my first kernel compile. Was a ride to hell and back, until it worked.
It worked the first time for me. It was easier then I expected it to be.
It worked the first time for me. It was easier then I expected it to be.
My problem was, that I didn't have some drivers activated.
Either they've changed how kernel compilation is done within the last year or so, or I've just gotten better, but I remember it being a painful exercise ages ago, which is why I didn't do it except until now.
So I found something shocking. If you're sensitive to racial issues I recommned you don't read through the forum it comes from. Aparthide Gnu/Linux [editline]17th November 2013[/editline] If I'm banned for this I won't be shocked.

Some of you may remember me ranting and raving about Linux not installing on my machine. Well, I got it installed and grub boots but guess what. It doesn't boot into Linux. It just sits there. Just to say, my motherboard is UEFI and apparently Linux and UEFI don't mix. I did make the CD boot with Legacy only and it installs as I said, but even the installer has graphical issues.

But I currently don't have time to read into UEFI, and it's connection with Linux. When I want to use Linux on such a machine, I always use the BIOS c ompatibility anyway. But I think somewhat soon, this functionality will be removed from future boards.
Linus hates UEFI with a passion. Most distros support it but it sometimes requires some configuration
