I am afraid that is not an option, since the Pi runs out of memory when compiling LLVM. Plus it would take forever.
How does a "configure" script know where to look for libraries? Does it assume everything vill be in /lib and /usr? Or does it look at a environtment variable like PATH?
Try LD_LIBRARY_PATH? Seem to remember that being used for Android cross compiles. Make sure you're compiling for the right architecture and stuff, too.

my blood is boiling, that's retarded
anyway, I deleted my arch install after encrypting my HDD and SSD since apparently truecrypt doesn't support dual-OS systems. kinda want to get back into arch again but kinda scared of trying to install it on a encrypted system. anything to keep in mind?

Have you read https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Disk_Encryption ?

doesn't that cover the initial encryption though? my disks are already encrypted. will I have to decrypt the disks, install linux then encrypt it again?
What's a good GTK theme that's like Numix with a dark bar and faded bright controls/everything else but isn't Numix? Everything I find seems to be bent on bright everything, bent on dark everything, or just plain unappealing.

This is why games are not ported to Linux, because noone is interested in the software, they just want to play games, and any change in the "middleware" is just not worth the time apparently.
This mindset is beyond me.

pretty fucking retarded. it shows how many people there are who have absolutely no interest in the box other than its beautiful hardware or trying the new stuff before everyone else
Valve was pretty clear that they want it to fit any configuration. A few people installing Windows on the box is fine with me.

valve should repo their boxes
and send them to people who actually want them instead of just being greedy
like me

Yeah but we already know Steam works fine on Windows
doesn't that cover the initial encryption though? my disks are already encrypted. will I have to decrypt the disks, install linux then encrypt it again?
I think that depends a lot on how you have encryption set up. I would guess it's something you can handle in the live environment before installing, then you probably have to to do some post-installation steps to make the OS aware of the encryption.
Fuck those steambox assholes.
Doesn't it occur to you guys that those people installing Windows on the steambox might be trolling?
After all, I'm pretty sure Valve hasn't release Windows drivers for it.
Plus, didn't they make them sign an NDA or something?

Windows drivers for what? common PC hardware? I know Windows has no drivers but it'll work with important bits in the box.

Those boxes are, as far as I know, just fairly standard Intel + nVidia ones.

Wish there was a theme that suited base16 well as I really like it for all my text based stuff.

the drives need to be accessed with a password before I'm able to use the system. my HDD has a 500 bits strength password while my primary one has one around 60 bits (so I can remember it, must be able to boot up). I can't picture myself being able to install anything on them outside windows considering they have to be mounted before they're accessible
You realise Skype "runs" on Linux, though I'll admit the application is a bit crap.
True. Though I wanted to hear other things on the desktop as well. If I used Skype for Linux, I'd have to have my headphones plugged into the laptop.
I've never had good luck piping real time audio, something always gets out of sync. I ended up setting up a mumble server to send audio to my laptop when my sound card died.
I'm currently formatting an old Dell laptop and I was thinking of playing around with Linux a bit on it, what's a good starting point for someone like me? I'm looking at the OP and there's quite a few options, It's a bit of a low end laptop, can't tell you the specs on the top of my head but it struggles to run Windows 7 if there's more then two windows open so it's definitely not a powerhouse.

If you know absolutely nothing about linux you could start with Ubuntu or Mint. If you want to be a bit more adventurous you could go with Debian or Arch.
Fuck everything
first I fuck up my entire kernel/x11 but installing the properitary amd drivers
then I kill my 1TB hdd
and then I just accidentally deleted a bot i'd been working on for the last 2 weeks because I forgot that it was fucking symlinked instead of copied.
Fuck everything.
The bot is still running for some reason even though all the python code is gone

I feel with you, done the same mistake myself once.
You could probleary get the sourcefiles back with extundelete, or with photorec if you're not running ext or extundelete didn't work

can you give me a quick rundown on how to use it? I need to restore one entire directory. do I need to type out the file names by hand or???
can you give me a quick rundown on how to use it? I need to restore one entire directory. do I need to type out the file names by hand or???
Never used extundelete myself, just heard about it. There should be an "--restore-directory" option, so if you remember the path of the folder where the files were, you could use that.
But, if your project is within one or few files and still running as you say, try this first:
If you think the file may be still open by some program (for example, if it is a movie file currently being played by a movie player), and you know the filename, then first follow this procedure:
$ lsof|grep "/path/to/file"
progname 5559 user 22r REG 8,5 1282410 1294349 /path/to/file
Notice the number in the second column is 5559 and the number in the fourth column is 22. The command to restore that file is:
$ cp /proc/5559/fd/22 restored.file
No idea if it works with python files, but maybe worth a try aswell.
Also, if the project is really important, and the partition is small enough to be duped with dd to an another disk then do that first.
Okay so extundelete won't work due to the fact that I can't find my drive in /dev/ (/dev/simfs)
The lsof trick also doesn't work because it says "python 9527 root cwd DIR 0,78 4096 76415100 /srv/bot/{...}/dumbotcurrent"
Photorec didn't work either. It tells me it can't find a hard disk.
Thanks for trying to help but it doesn't seem to work because it's a vps :/
Looks like I learnt my lesson for not backing up enough
Do you guys know any good automatic backup software that transfers the backups to another server? I bought a server for backups ages ago but I never got around installing it...
