Alright, exams are now finally over. Time to get rid of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and geta new distro. However I have no clue how. I installed Ubuntu along side Win8.1 and I don't really know how to "uninstall" ubuntu and install another distro.
remove the partition and fix the bootloader?
Tonight's class was rather eventful. The bad news is that I had baby's first kernel panic after five or six years of first using the OS. The bad news is that it happened during a project presentation to the class. The bad news is that the person who sat next to me tried to lecture me why I should be using Manjaro instead of Ubuntu GNOME. I don't even know what caused the panic to begin with, I only had a web browser and a text editor up.
Don't you just love the flashing caps lock led? Much better than a BSOD.

Just make sure to tell the setup you want to handle partitions yourself instead of something like 'use the entire disk' or you'll overwrite Windows as well.
I'm trying to start a fun project with a couple of friends. We want to start our own "distro", starting small with some custom GNOME theming, etc. We want it to be based on a rolling release, so Ubuntu and Debian stable are out. So right now I'm trying to figure out what to use. Debian SID and Fedora Rawhide are options. I can't for the life of me get Rawhide to even install. I've tried two times now to install Rawhide with Yum, and it breaks with literally a fresh install. Throws out dependency errors, tells me to try and upgrade with --ignore-broken, and even that doesn't work. So if you can't update to Rawhide from literally a fresh, updated install, what's the point? I haven't tried Debian SID, but I feel like Arch is better for a rolling release overall. I also really prefer Pacman. Anyone here use SID, and would access to a bigger precompiled repository/.deb files be worth choosing Debian over Arch? [editline]18th February 2014[/editline] Also, is there any major time difference in GNOME releases for Arch and Fedora? We'd like to be on the most recent version possible (maybe avoiding the dev build, which I guess right now is 3.11.5)
And then some random Sysadmin in the crowd would shout that they both should feel bad for not using CentOS.
And then there will be the guy who will yell "Use Gentoo, wimps" and nobody will be sure if he's serious or not
Could I get some help in how to setup an OpenLDAP authentication service on Ubuntu Server 12? It's for a college project and I have zero clue where to even begin. Guides, etc. Really, just so I know where to even start doing this.
Rilez, Honestly an Arch based distro that has a lot of stuff preinstalled, kinda like manjaro, would be great. I can help if you want. I've set up a Gameboy emulator running Pokemon Red taking random input on my VPS. After one hour, we left Prof. Oak's lab with a Squirtle named Amn]BIP :v: [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] Point your VLC/whatever to http://novaember.com:1337 to take a look
how did you get an x server or something running on your vps? [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] also how did you do the input?
how did you get an x server or something running on your vps? [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] also how did you do the input?
The X server is Xvfb, which stands for X virtual framebuffer. It's headless. Then I run mednafen, and a script that gives the input using xdotool. This script also echoes the input to dzen2. ffmpeg records it and cvlc streams it.
So where do I give it input?
So where do I give it input?
You can't, input is completely random. However I've also made an IRC bot that does something similar to TwitchPlaysPokemon which I'm planning on trying out with my class soon. Also, Amn]BIP just levelled to lv6! Wooo! [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] Still struggling to get out of the first town, though.
I have a feeling you'll never leave the first town, considering he just got stuck in the neighbors house. :v: [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] Scratch that, you did it.

When he did he just ran from almost every battle untill he attacked by accident. This went on for a while untill he fainted and respawned. He also spoke to his mother like 5 times in a row. The most tense moment was when he almost walked back upstairs into his room and it looked like he was going to get stuck there.
Yeah this isn't going anywhere... [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] I'm gonna try some other games just for the funs, let's try Link's Awakening. [editline]19th February 2014[/editline] Actually never mind, LA is even worse.
mario
Make a learning algorithm.
do the same thing as the pokemon twitch but with mario or something
okay so here is a thing i have wondered about for a while now why does catalyst need the gimp help files? this has been at the end of the release notes for as long as i can remember.

I'm so glad I know how to use vi/vim at a remedial level. Its nice to have an editor that's on pretty much every distro ever. Though my friend thinks I'm a caveman for using it rather than gedit.
Gedit is like notepad on Windows. It's not much. I use sublime for pretty much everything. If I have to use a terminal editor (or if it's really more convenient) , Nano is my preferred choice. All I know about vi is how to insert something and how to :x.

He used to use vi back in the day and calls it outdated software.
[t]http://novaember.com/s/797960888.png[/t] [editline]20th February 2014[/editline] Is the stream really slow for everyone else?
And then there will be the guy who will yell "Use Gentoo, wimps" and nobody will be sure if he's serious or not
That guy probably came out of /g/.
Thinking of dropping GNOME for our project. It's a bit too constrictive in terms of customization (even with the great extensions I've found, I've been going through the shell .js and even then there's not much I can change) and Cinnamon might work better. The one thing I'd really miss is GNOME activities. Is there anything similar for Cinnamon, or Linux in general? I know Synapse is sort of similar. GNOME Do might work, but I've never used it. What do you guys think? [editline]20th February 2014[/editline]
Rilez, Honestly an Arch based distro that has a lot of stuff preinstalled, kinda like manjaro, would be great.
That's the idea. I like Manjaro, but I don't like how they hold back certain packages. That defeats the whole point of Arch. Not only that, but Manjaro is STILL buggy/slow sometimes, even with packages held back for "testing". Their package manager (Pamac) is great though, and it can be compiled from the AUR. I have it on my base Arch install right now. I would like to include that, and maybe help improve it. We're still bouncing ideas right now, nothing actually happening ATM.
