That reads like a "file not found" error to me.
Make sure /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi exists, and you may also need to explicitly set root to your EFI partition somehow if that search command is failing. (Don't ask me how, I'm an old granddad and still use BIOS/MBR for everything)

rEFInd Larikang mentioned worked great, so luckily I got around that. thanks for the help anyway!
[QUOTE=lavacano;44970312]How are the permissions on /etc/vsftpd (the directory, not the files)[/QUOTE]
They're 755.

Aw it requires two graphics cards. :(
I wonder if that'd work with a laptop using Optimus..that'd be cool as fuck
[editline]5th June 2014[/editline]
Or a laptop with GPUs in an SLI setup?
XFCE notifications seem to be broken. Maybe for one notification, they'll look normal, and then afterwards...

No clue how this happened. DDG somehow no longer has relevant searches and I should still have all my needed notification packages.

I really want to do this but I have the 4670k which doesn't support vtd, else I would. I only need integrated graphics for Linux really :( Is there any way to switch the input between the vm and host, I could hook my primary monitor to both the integrated graphics for linux and the nvidia card for the vm.
EDIT: Actually VNC and Steam home streaming would do...
EDIT2: The 4690k supports VT-d, I might upgrade to one of those...
any of you guys know if there's a root certificate authority I can download to easily install a root certificate which is valid system wide? as far as I know, Linux doesn't have a central place to store/manage SSL certificates so you kinda have to configure every program to use a certificate
Why not generate your own root certificate?
[editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
Isn't /etc/ssl a systemwide place for SSL certs? or am I thinking of something different?
[QUOTE=kaukassus;45015217]Why not generate your own root certificate?[/QUOTE]
need to install an already made one that communicates with the firewall
Idk if it works, but this may be the thing you're looking for:

I don't think that'd work unless I can covert it to a .crt somehow. I have a .p12 file which contains a .pem certificate. putting that .pem certificate in /etc/ssl/certs where it should go and running c_rehash doesn't apply it for some reason.
found this earlier

and according to the accepted answer, it's not possible to do it on linux? it was 5 years ago though, so might be outdated

Linux has changed an incredible amount compared to 5 years ago.
[editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
As far as I know /etc/ssl/certs seems to be the universal place for storing CA's.
[editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
And some distros use /usr/share/ca-certificates/ as the CA Store.

yeah, it really boggles my mind too. I've tried both /etc/ssl/certs and /usr/share/ca-certificates in the past and now, yet my certificate won't come into effect
I joined the Linux people last night. So far I'm liking it a lot.
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04. Is there anything that you folks recommend I install or change or whatnot for an optimal experience?
There was some CA location where you had to put your root cert, and then run update-ca-certificates (I think), and then it would work.
If you just need your web browser to work, you can open the certificate in your web browser and let the web browser handle it.

I know a dude who whenever he installs Ubuntu he uninstalls a bunch of stuff because it is "actually Amazon spying on you" but I haven't used Ubuntu for years so I don't know if that is a real thing.
It is a real thing
[editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
Something in Unity I believe

When you search in Unity for programs or files it also displays ads and shit. I saw something on reddit the other day where someone searched for "update" and below the obvious stuff like software updates was an ad for a thong called Update.
If you want it to not do that, you can turn it off easily by going into the privacy settings and disabling online sources.
[sp]Alternatively, kubuntu stronk[/sp]
[url]https://fixubuntu.com/[/url]
Should disable the Privacy problem of the amazon stuff.
As for the thong one, I'm sure it was this:

I would switch to Mint from Ubuntu. Just a personal preference.

Just install Unity.
Does anyone know what 1080p H.264 decoding performance is like on the Raspberry Pi? I'm planning on buying one as a streaming thing for the TV
[editline]6th June 2014[/editline]
Software wise, I mean
I mostly run Some form of Ubuntu on my machines. I like the feel of having a stable base to work with.
I'm conflicted about Ubuntu - 14.04 is awesome on the desktop, but 14.10 and later are going to suck, but 16.04 will be fucking amazing on the server.
(14.10 will probably ship Mir instead of X.Org, 16.04 will probably ship with systemd instead of Upstart)

When/if you decide Unity is just too fucking annoying, install some other desktop environment.
In Terminal:
[code]sudo apt-get install $SOME_ALTERNATIVE[/code]
where $SOME_ALTERNATIVE can be "kde", "xfce", or even something like "i3wm" or "openbox" if you want minimal. (I'm guessing the package names, I haven't used Ubuntu in ages)
If you don't want to use Terminal for that you could probably use the Ubuntu Software Center (or whatever they call it).

Supposedly, it can do 1080p decoding in hardware very well. However that means you will have to use certain codecs. It wouldn't stand a chance decoding that resolution in software.
I've run XBMC on my Raspberry Pi. Decoding of 1080p H.264 works perfectly, but the UI is a bit sluggish.
