No, i bet it was just a random issue (or because SCSI drive controller?). Anyway not important, switched to VMware, no more issues.
A chip manufacturer tried to get malware merged into the kernel, gregkh laughed them off the mailing list.

If I wasn't so damn heterosexual, I'd hit on greg.

For people who are shit at C:
It destroys non geniune FTDI USB controllers.
Only for some people, i had to use VMware.
Win 10 worked fine for me until I tried to install guest additions. Then the OS started shitting itself because Oracle hadn't made the proper tweaks yet.
Virtualbox 4.3.18

While I don't want to defend FTDI because they're scum for sneaking the driver out the way they did, "destroy" is a bit of an overstatement. The PID can be reset on affected devices.

Still. This is something that has no point in being used in the kernel. Things like this shouldn't even exist to begin with.
There's reports that the patch submitter isn't actually employed by FTDI. I just woke up, in the middle of the night, at 5am, because I feel asleep on my bed with my clothes on, from being too tired, so I apparently didn't finish checking the source properly.
Need to do that after I've finished sleeping.
But we do know for sure that FTDI pulled that shit with the Windows driver.

Judging from the Windows Update incident, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
a fresh arch linux installation is a happy arch linux installation!
also i made myself some personal installation scripts so i aint gotta worry about manually reinstalling anymore. feels great
don't drink and gparted kids
augh
thinking of learning git and also the typical scripting tools like bash, grep, awk, and sed
i dont retain information very well when i dont need it but i do need git! grep awk sed and a better understanding of bash, hmm, well see
Have any of you cool cats used Ubuntu studio recently? Is it still good? I haven't used it to make music for almost five years now but I am thinking about giving it another spin.
Isn't Ubuntu Studio just Ubuntu with a real-time kernel
I am on their website now. I am gonna give this a download cause I have a feeling I have never used a properly configured installation of Ardour.

I'm probably going to regret asking this, but what did you do

Root? What did root ever do for me anyways? I need more space on home to store my porn.

why does this stupid POS program keep asking if i wanna wipe /dev/sdb?????????? FUK
Fixed space allocation is stupid. Only problem is that I don't think there's a real solution that would allow you to do it dynamically.
If you had two partitions, you could write data to the opposite sides, and change the point where you draw a line between the two, but with multiple partitions, it would get nasty, you'd have to be in the "middle".

no no it's fine now
Most of my files are intact but it is taking quite a while to move them into this new btrfs partition I thought it would be such a good idea to replace my old root partition with. I was planning on reinstalling OpenSuse for 13.2 anyway.

Also, I hear this patch would also brick legit FTDIs. It's performance art, as gregkh says.
Alright FP, in need of your help again. Started using fish. On Funtoo. gpg --clearsign is broken (fish only):
gpg: cancelled by user
gpg: no default secret key: Operation cancelled
gpg: [stdin]: clearsign failed: Operation cancelled
Works fine in Bash, Busybox Ash, etc.
Submit a bug report to the fish project.

This was a joke, the person who submitted the patch was from TI, not FTDI.
My dad and I both use VPNs for work (different workplaces though). I run dhcpd and bind on my Pi, and I noticed in my dhcpd logs it's spamming a lot of this when we're using them:
1139 Oct 28 21:05:45 localhost dhcpd: Unable to add reverse map from 5.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa. to xxxx.xxxx.xxxx: not found
1140 Oct 29 11:26:32 localhost dhcpd: Unable to add reverse map from 44.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa. to xxxx.xxxx.xxxx: not found
How do I get it to stop complaining?
is installing linux on a macbook as easy as with any other machine? I'm assuming they're EFI so the idea was to go through the basic installation process for Arch and put rEFInd on it. for some reason I'm expecting the installation process to be different, but I suppose it's no different? only worry I have is bootcamp and windows, will rEFInd mess stuff up or will it be able to find its way to windows? or should I install windows without using bootcamp?
Installing Linux on a Macbook is a pain in the ass if you plan on dual/triple booting.
Also if it's an older Macbook, you need to backup certain proprietary drivers from OSX, because they can't be redistributed legally
I think in your scenario, you'd want to partition with OSX's diskutil; make three partitions for OSX, Windows and Linux. Then reinstall them all normally (OSX included, you should always start fresh)
it's a brand new macbook pro, do I need to worry about backing anything up? if I mess my OSX partition up, are the disk images freely available via the internet?
I have a feeling I need to install linux, OSX and windows in the correct order since you say it's better to start off completely fresh. does it matter, and if it does, which OS should I begin with?

apparently there's a page for this on the wiki! I'll take a closer look on it tomorrow when I'm on a better connection and my desktop
If it's new, you don't need the OSX drivers. Older Macbooks need them for the iSight cameras to work. Newer models are built into the kernel.
If you can start with OSX, that's probably the best way to do it. The disk images aren't freely available AFAIK

Also, careful with that article you posted, looks a little out of date
Why are exfat utils not installed by default on all distros?
exfat > ntfs > FAT
