Nouveau has imporved a lot since I last used it. Just waiting on good VDPAU support then I'm ditching the proprietary drivers.
sorry, forgot about your tutorial :v: [editline]4th August 2013[/editline] For 3d this isn't really an option
It's a shame, nvidia hasn't been nearly as good with the FOSS community as AMD has, at least nvidia users have good propriatary drivers to use though.
Anyone have advice for automounting Windows network shares in Thunar? I can manually mount but having to enter a password every time gets old. Adding the mount to fstab does not work. arch ofc
Anyone have advice for automounting Windows network shares in Thunar? I can manually mount but having to enter a password every time gets old. Adding the mount to fstab does not work. arch ofc
Did you follow this, when putting it in fstab? Arch Wiki: Samba share path If so, you may use the mount or smbmount command and make it being automaticly run at boot. See: Arch Wiki: Autostarting Example on using mount to mount a sambashare with smbclient installed:
mount -t cifs //SERVER/SHARENAME /mnt/MOUNTPOINT -o user=USERNAME,password=PASSWORD,workgroup=WORKGROUP,ip=SERVERIP
Also whatever you choose to do, check that you do not put an "/" at the end of the server sharename "ex. //SERVER/SHARENAME/". It should be "//SERVER/SHARENAME"
Alright, I'm tired of this shit. How can I transfer the drivers from Backtrack to Mint for my intel 5100 AGN?
That's more of a driver/hardware thing. It's possible that Windows had installed a generic driver for your audio card (onboard or not) and that's why you get poor sound in Windows. While Linux just has the proper drivers loaded into the kernel already. :u
I installed the proper driver for the on-board audio in windows, and thinking about it I wouldn't be surprised if it's a placebo effect.
Does anyone here use Conky? If so, what information does it display to you?
Does anyone here use Conky? If so, what information does it display to you?
I used to use it. Mainly for time, CPU, Network and RAM.
I just gave Gentoo an honest try Spend the last 2 days installing my base system I can't do this :v: Fucking USE flags and keywords, I can't get used to it.
I just gave Gentoo an honest try Spend the last 2 days installing my base system I can't do this :v: Fucking USE flags and keywords, I can't get used to it.
Install Fedora, Debian, Crunchbang etc. Much easier
Install Fedora, Debian, Crunchbang etc. Much easier
I'm not a noob to Linux, I just wanted to give Gentoo a shot. Just...far too much fuckery for my taste. The closest thing to my ideal Linux distro is Arch and it still sucks. I want a rolling release, mostly cutting edge system that doesn't require too much maintenance. At the very least, I want the kernel and drivers to be as reasonably up to date as possible, and applications at least up to date as of the last 6 or so months :v:

Just found out about netcat being able to listen on a port $ nc 94.214.151.20 8000 if anyone wants to try (I wonder how it'll work with multiple clients connecting)
Maybe Ubuntu-Gnome is something for ya? ^^
Not rolling release, GNOME 3 runs AWFUL on my laptop.
fedora rawhide maybe?
Crunchbang. or Opensuse.
fedora rawhide maybe?
Isn't exactly rolling and is about as stable as Windows ME :v: [editline]6th August 2013[/editline]
Crunchbang. or Opensuse.
Crunchbang/Debian's packages are ancient and I fucking HATE OpenSUSE's package manager. [editline]6th August 2013[/editline] I know, I'm one picky fuck :v:
Does anyone here use Conky? If so, what information does it display to you?
I made a few widgets for myself.
I'm trying to use FontAwesome in Conky, but it just won't render the glyph. Any ideas on how to make it work?
${font FontAwesome:size=12}${iconv_start UTF-8 ISO_8859-1}${iconv_stop}${font
That's what I currently have.
I dunno, I just rely on whatever conky has by default. On the topic of font and rendering, my Infinality install broke this morning...how did I live like this?!
Isn't exactly rolling and is about as stable as Windows ME :v: [editline]6th August 2013[/editline] Crunchbang/Debian's packages are ancient and I fucking HATE OpenSUSE's package manager.
Isn't exactly rolling and is about as stable as Windows ME :v:
That's the risk of a rolling distro. And fedora, crunchban, ubuntu is not for "noobs". It's the user not the product that makes the man or somethingsomething you know,.
Oh well, fuck icons. [t]http://i.imgur.com/DMyx9Le.png[/t] yay conky and vim!
Got around to making a Windows 8 VM start up in VT8 in a seperate xorg instance, this is way better than the whole desktop integration thing VB has. This is great, ctrl alt F8 to switch to windows.

And then you probably should remove the "ISO_8859-1", since you'd be encoding it with utf-8 instead.

Anyway, I'll just doublecheck to make sure it's safed as utf-8.
Brief how-to?
Add this to your startup applications (whichever way you manage that)
X -quiet -nolisten tcp -noreset :4 vt8 & DISPLAY=:4 VirtualBox --startvm 'vmname' &
Just make your your current x instance isn't already in vt8, it's normally in 7.
