I get this error log when trying to install.
Do you have the correct kernel headers which it asks for? Try:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.8.0-27-generic
If that still does not work, I see that the fglrx driver development for your card is lagging behind the fglrx for HD 5000 and up. The last driver you could get is: Catalyst 13.1, which officially only supports up to kernel 3.4. I've never done it myself, and it is an quite hackish solution, but you could try to downgrade your kernel to 3.4 (This is only if applying the correct linux headers for your current does not work ofc) EDIT: Before trying to downgrade your kernel if the headers does not work. Try this patch AMD Catalyst Patch for Kernel 3.8.x
apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
Will always get you the appropriate kernel headers for the kernel you are currently running.
Yup. The worst part about this is that apt is kind of like a standard these days even though it's inferior to yum.
dpkg-based packages aren't really all that good in general, I find. Ever since I first used Arch I've liked pacman the most. Though I have also used yum and it's pretty cool I guess. Took a bit of learning to use at first because I'd only used pacman and apt before.
In love.
What's up with that font rendering? Eek.
And no one else notices Ubuntu's more like Macintosh than elementary OS? [editline]Please don't put the pee pee in the Coke.[/editline] eOS has Plank, a modified Nautilus, and a GTK theme and people call it like a Mac. Ubuntu's got the whole kit and kaboodle like the file bar, apt-get front end (Software Center), and the workspace manager from what I heard.
Apparantly you have never used Mac, I'm talking mostly about the mission control.
Well, I'm using elementary now and it's pretty neat. Beautiful and light, and the system apps such as music and the file browser are pretty good.
It doesn't seem like elementary will work with UEFI on my ultrabook. Dammit.
It doesn't seem like elementary will work with UEFI on my ultrabook. Dammit.
Is it UEFI or secure boot that's causing the trouble?
Did you install the 32 bit version of gconf?
Yes, I've installed it. I installed lib32-gconf from the AUR.
Well, I'm using elementary now and it's pretty neat. Beautiful and light, and the system apps such as music and the file browser are pretty good.
Never could get an answer before, but has it been updated where the WM is able to do fullscreen applications with hardware acceleration? Gaming in fullscreen on Luna beta #2 was atrocious compared to Ubuntu.
Using OS drivers or proprietary?
I'm using the proprietary FGLRX drivers, which have worked smoothly before. I've tried downgrading the driver to a version I was sure GMod worked before, but it still didn't work. Afterwards, I updated the driver to the version I had before the downgrading.
Never could get an answer before, but has it been updated where the WM is able to do fullscreen applications with hardware acceleration? Gaming in fullscreen on Luna beta #2 was atrocious compared to Ubuntu.
I would kindly answer that, but I have no other computer and this is a netbook, so I can't exactly test that. Sorry.
I would kindly answer that, but I have no other computer and this is a netbook, so I can't exactly test that. Sorry.
Just tried it myself, can hardly tell anything was done since beta #2. Going fullscreen halves the framerate I would normally get with Ubuntu. Still have to compile my own network drivers. But not going to lie, I'd switch to eOS if these were problems were...shall we say...taken care of.
noob question but when i install crunchbang it hangs this, had the same problem with debian installing on a separate drive, have windows on another i asked /g/ and they told me to install ubuntu ),:
i would actually give ubuntu a try, it's functionally the same as the other two if you don't want unity just install something else [editline]13th August 2013[/editline] what is on the MBR of the drive you're trying to install Grub on to?
I rebooted my laptop and was greeted with grub rescue. ls didn't show any of mydisks I knew I was fucked... I'm so glad I make automatic backups
what is on the MBR of the drive you're trying to install Grub on to?
i actually have not much idea what an MBR is so far i've had windows, fedora, ubuntu, debian and crunchbang installed on that drive i guess i should aim to remove the MBR? i'll try scrub it i guess
you could try installing GRUB to a partition rather than the MBR

http://henryhermawan.blogspot.no/2013/03/amd-catalyst-patch-for-kernel-38x.html I’ve never done this before, Ubuntu 13.04 32 bit is my own little project. Atm i have steam and cinnamon since i don't really like unity.
you could try installing GRUB to a partition rather than the MBR
[t]http://i.imgur.com/kPxc5WL.jpg[/t] tried to install grub by booting into crunchbang from the USB and got these errors as it was booting couldn't get networking working so I couldn't do much what do these errors mean? I also get a few when installing off the usb
That's not good. Your hard drive might be on its way out.
feels good to be using ncmpcpp again, oddly refreshing coming from something so overloaded with UI elements like clementine if only i had spotify premium, i could use mopidy+ncmpcpp instead of the shitty linux spotify client
I've never been able to configure ncmpcpp. So I just gave up and started using DeaDBeeF.
I've never really needed to configure it; most defaults are fine by me. I think I only changed some keybinds to make it more vim-esque.
I've never really needed to configure it; most defaults are fine by me. I think I only changed some keybinds to make it more vim-esque.
No, I mean I was too stupid to get it running. I probably could now, but I really don't see the point.
I wish there was a way I could use google music with MPD..I don't keep much local music anymore
there probably is or will be if google have an API for it, spotify works with tons of players if the developers integrate it this guy has the right idea. [editline]14th August 2013[/editline]
No, I mean I was too stupid to get it running.
That's not good. Your hard drive might be on its way out.
well it's pulled from a 5 year old laptop so this isn't suprising [editline]14th August 2013[/editline] wait a minute this happens while preparing crunchbang for install aswell it's probably the USB drive i'm using
So i had my first kernel panic and had to reinstall. Also installed the KDE, which imo looks pretty good. Still need to figure out how to install the non free drivers, gonna try installing without downgrading.
