ah, thanks!
Think this has been asked before, but what's the best (in terms of performance and easy of use) disto for servers?

I'd say debian
I'd say debian
Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS.
Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS.
Debian server is pmuch the same as ubuntu server with a smaller overhead

While this may not be the best in terms of ease of use, why restrict yourself to a single one distribution? Why not have something like Sabotage Linux with a custom server kernel with LXC built in, and Docker installed?

I think that's a bit overkill
Is Ubuntu minimal pretty much the same as Arch, and how is it different?
Is Ubuntu minimal pretty much the same as Arch, and how is it different?
Well, it's Ubuntu with only the base packages installed. When you boot it up you get a text based installer and after that you boot up into a terminal interface, alike Arch. The rest is up to you. In a way it's like Arch, but in a way it's totally different.

Ubuntu Server has better cloud support though. JuJu for example.

Similiar to Archlinux on what you get after a finished installation.
The packages are older than the Arch ones, but Newer than the debian packages.
If you are one of those people who can't use GNU/Linux without a Bleeding edge kernel, then you can get one from here:

Just checked it out, looks perfect for me, I'm glad I found out about this
isn't that in sid already
[editline]2nd September 2013[/editline]
unless you're a paid organization ubuntu server is no better than debian server or centos
i use centos on my server
it is pretty okay
yum is a good package manager

owncloud
I think that's a bit overkill
That really depends on what kind of servers. If he/she only intends on running a few webservers (or just one), then it would be vastly overkill. But if that's the case, then pretty much all distributions will have something worth using.
uhm, how do I install a network certificate onto my arch install? need a certificate to use my network at home

clementine just stopped spitting out sound after a restart. speaker test and youtube confirms that sound still works though, why isn't clementine working?
Are you using PulseAudio?
not sure, but judging from the terminal I'd say so. I installed ALSA but I have pulseaudio installed as well.
[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
also, why is my performance so shit in simple games like super hexagon and hotline miami? I have a 6850 card, using the open source drivers (xf86-video-ati). I tried adding the performance tweaks on the wiki page, but no change
open clementine in a terminal and look at the output when you try playing something. paste it back here
[editline]3rd September 2013[/editline]
there's a fair chance it's a buffer issue or you haven't set your sound device properly. install pavucontrol and make sure clementine's volume isn't down

well it's probably not an alsa problem then. have you checked clementine's audio settings if any?
well it's probably not an alsa problem then. have you checked clementine's audio settings if any?
yup, checked the mixer and it was not muted
If Clementine is set to use ALSA, try typing "pulse" (no quotes) into the PCM name box.
I had this problem once - it wound up being PulseAudio was taking over my entire sound card for some reason even though my default ALSA PCM was a dmix.
I'm starting to think that PulseAudio is more of a virus than a program.
the PCM name box?
[editline]4th September 2013[/editline]
also, clementine isn't showing up in pavucontrol as an app at all, so can't see if it's muted or not

This does make me cringe a little.
fake. ubuntu can never be sheldon's favorite distro.

You don't actually watch that show, do you?
I only watch it for Kaley Cuoco.
