[drm:i915_context_is_banned] *ERROR* Context hanging too fast, declaring banned!
Wow, something new and nothing explains it.
Wow, something new and nothing explains it.
By vague google results, in the intel graphics driver, apparently if a graphics context keeps sending "bad" batch buffers that hang the GPU, it permanently "bans" the context
Why would you even
Guys, I want to try nouveau instead of propietary drivers on my 9800 GT, but apparently, it has no fan management. Any idea on how to fix it?

It does keep hanging (something involving "bo" and some address) and I update to the latest kernel in hopes of some sort of patch. Been doing this since 3.6 and now on 3.12.0-997-generic.
It amuses me how it vaguely breaks shit in that manner though, just over some hanging
Specially as all you have to do to hang a linux system is literally this
#include<unistd.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
int main(){while(1){malloc(1024*1024);fork();}}
Oh god, the official ATI Beta drivers are working well and the fans are quiet. 13.10 is truly a blessed number.
Is your drive MBR or GPT? Are you trying to boot via BIOS or EFI?
No idea, it's this SSD and I'm pretty sure I'm booting from the BIOS.
I love this thing, it's just so pretty.

And it's in the AUR as well!

Yep, seems to be a common problem with Sandy Bridge graphics.
[drm:i915:set_reset_status] *ERROR* render ring inside bo (0xaddress ctx 1) at 0xaddress
Frankly it only happens when I'm running something that uses Java.
so I'm having problems installing jreen from AUR (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/jreen/)
CMake Error at cmake/jreenMacros.cmake:60 (QT4_CREATE_MOC_COMMAND):
QT4_CREATE_MOC_COMMAND Macro invoked with incorrect arguments for macro
named: QT4_CREATE_MOC_COMMAND
Call Stack (most recent call first):
CMakeLists.txt:138 (JREEN_WRAP_CPP)
says this and aborts. this error repeats itself about 10-20 times before it aborts though, but it does all this instantaneous. any idea how to fix this?

It seems other people are having the same issues as you. The package is probably broken then. You could try to fix it and post a patch on the aur.

there was a guy who wrote about a patch he made but I have no idea how to apply that wall of text to the package.
Is there a way to install Ubuntu on a internal hard drive? This ISO file only lets me download it on a blank CD, and i only find 700 MB CDs where i live for some reason.

Got a USB stick that's 1GB or over?
Got a USB stick that's 1GB or over?
Well, i have a 1000 GB external hard-drive that acts like a USB stick, would that work?

If you don't mind wiping it completely of data first:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
Both should do the job, although sometimes only one of them works properly.

Oh damn, it's actually in the Hard Drives section, ummm, does that change anything?
Wiping it? Ah crap, can't do that, there's a lot of shit that belongs to my brother and i don't want to wipe it, i'll look for a 1 GB+ USB stick tommorow :/

Your motherboard's BIOS most likely doesn't care, as long as it can be set to boot from usb devices as first priority.

Oh, turns out i actually have a 2 GB USB stick :v: do i do it with the links you provided?\
Also let's not spam this thread further, we'll talk in PM.

why are my fonts so incredibly weird in xfce's terminal?

.
Download the ISO and then get a utility like Unetbootin or Pendrive and install in on a USB and then you can install it on your external HHD

So I'm ready to learn more about Linux than what I currently know and I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to VM either Gentoo or Arch?
Since im backing up my shit right now, can someone tell me which of these steam games is compatible with Linux?
-TF2
-Ace of Spades
-Age of Chivalry
-Awesomenauts
-Counter Strike: GO
-Don't Starve
-Garry's Mod
-HL2
-Poker Night 2
-Poker Night at the Inventory
-Surgeon Simulator 2013
-Just Cause 2
Thank you.
and here I am back again, is there a way to make the window decorator emerald to start by itself? just replaced xfwm or whatever it was called (xfce's window manager) with compiz and everything works other than me having to have a terminal open with emerald --replace for every session I start.

I was getting the same error trying to install telepathy-qt yesterday. I fixed it by downgrading to cmake 2.8.11.2
there was a guy who wrote about a patch he made but I have no idea how to apply that wall of text to the package.
Patches are usually changes to the PKGBuild file that is basically like an install script. I don't have an Arch vm set up at the moment, but I know with yaourt you can choose to edit the pkgbuild before installation, or if you are doing it by hand just compare the packages pkgbuild and the text the user posted. You should be able to swap out the lines/ make the changes that fix it. Then install as you normally would.
[editline]23rd October 2013[/editline]
Or use the older version of cmake. Not to sure which way would be easier though.

how do I downgrade packages though? remove current, go to aur and find another one which is outdated?
