System logs (/var/log/)? If Ubuntu's using systemd you can just run journalctl.
Ubuntu uses upstart, not systemd, that's what the entire Debian-debate that's been going on for like almost a week now is about.
I finally fixed the laptop, i had to put some rubber under the keyboard so that it presses against the heatsink no more high speed fan. I also managed to enable the radeon.dpm correctly and the powermanagment.
Does anyone know of any good looking KDE themes?
Any thing else i should try out on kubuntu x64?

I might have to switch to another distro if Ubuntu decides to put mir in 14.04.

I'm trying to stay clear from canonicals products. mostly because on ethical and technical grounds.
I am now gonna install an Arch installation on my Main rig. It doesen't need to live long, just long enough for Fedora 20 to go stable.
I might switch to fedora for my main rig.

I might even go with arch as my daily driver.
Because I only want specific windows to tile. I know you can have floating windows in most tiling wms, but I want my wm to behave like a floating wm.
It isn't too hard to make awesome behave exactly like openbox, but reserve it's tiling capability for special situations. I can think of two ways to do what you want with awesome:
1. You could set the default layout to floating. Then switch to other layouts when you want tiles.
2. You could set the default layout to tiled, but make a rule to set every window to float. Then use a keyboard shortcut to turn off floating for the current window (thus making it tile).
So I tried to apply themes to Ubunto since I don't really like its look that much.
How it should look like (huge image):

Welp
Don't know if this is a fix for your problem, but you may have to install the theme to two directories: ~/.themes and ~/.local/share/themes if you indeed have GNOME (and I'm presuming so since I guess you didn't swap the window button layout). You would probably be better off just sending it to the latter directory.

I used to get the same problem as you when I was new to linux, and in the end it was me who was installing the theme incorrectly.

that google+ theme is beautiful. getting really tired of the black/orange color scheme numix has, is there a similar google+ theme for gtk3?

literally found it right after posting, nevermind

Makes sense; I just have the exact opposite preference (I only want specific windows to float), so I have trouble empathizing :v:

does ubuntu have like some kind of log or verbose mode for when it starts up?
Please. Anybody. HELP ME
If you press report problem and wait a little, does not a new box with the problem description appear?
Also, post the content of "ls /var/crash", and try "sudo rm /var/crash/*"

Whats a good terminal music player?
I love DeadBeef but I'm looking for something more minimalist.
[editline]4th November 2013[/editline]
I should probably add that I'm pretty damn stupid so the easier to use the better.

I'm actually liking the colourful simplicity of it.

that's beautiful. the only thing I dislike is the size of the panel and the glossy G+ logo
I didn't find any better button, maybe you can find one for me, also i could make the panel smaller.
:edit

Man fuck UEFI. can't get anything to work. Fuck this, I'm gonna go with VM's. Atleast that works.
Aparently distros don't like dualbooting with windows with UEFI and multiple harddisks.

I've gotten it working. I've got two drives for windows and two drives for Linux and I have full UEFI booting capabilities through refind. Want to add me on steam for questions?
Yeah nah, not getting the hang of themes with gnome. Done all that what it said on how to set it the gnome theme.
get the numix repo
installed numix
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme "Numix"
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences theme "Numix"
and nope

Sure, but not today (It's very late and I'm tired as hell :v:)
I'd really like to know more about UEFI on Linux. Especially when you have to set it up manually.
Thanks for the offer.

Anyway, I accepted you on steam.

The open source driver for the hd 4250 doesn't seem to help even on kernel 3.11.
How can i install the legacy fgrlx driver? Since amd doesn't support it anymore.
In cs 1.6 i got 24 fps using the open source driver and it seems to stutter as well.

on the deviant art page, it says you need
GTK+ 3.6 or above
Murrine theme engine
Does your system meet the requirements? I've noticed you're not running the most up-to-date gnome because it has gone through some drastic changes lately. Perhaps your GTK is out of date?
