I am gonna assume tfhat you're either using MATE or Cinnamon, so I'd suggest you look in the settings menu under Appearance. I think there's the options to configure font antialiasing.
I'm actually using Pantheon.
How do I do that?
I know there's an option in lxappearance, but that might only affect GTK apps. Check in your DE settings (if you use one) and install infinality too.
Installing Fedora 19 on my PC. I know 20 will be released tomorrow, but I heard the upgrading should go well enough.
Wait 20 is coming out tomorrow. Damn that's fast. Fedora 19 was released only a couple of weeks ago. What's new?
How good is Fedora 20 compared to Kubuntu 13.10?
Wait 20 is coming out tomorrow. Damn that's fast. Fedora 19 was released only a couple of weeks ago. What's new?
Fuck, I'm an idiot. I must have misread it somewhere. I guess I read "the next alpha version" or someshit. The actual release date is in December. Sorry. Also, why do I have to edit C files in order to be able to install fglrx? https://ask.fedoraproject.org/question/33297/how-can-i-install-the-amd-catalyst-proprietary-display-driver-on-a-fedora-19-hybrid-graphics-system/ fucking weird.
I'm actually using Pantheon.
close anough :v: I love the fact that my virtual machine can play 1080p youtube videos without any problems.
Is fedora any better than kubuntu?
Is fedora any better than kubuntu?
All down to preference, I couldn't tell you that either is better or worse. You'll have to try both and get a feel for which one you like best.
Fedora is good if you want a very (very, very) close to stock GNOME experience and have mostly the latest packages available. For example, few days ago, I've downloaded Fedora 19 and installed it on my machine to give it a spin. It came with Kernel 3.9 or something. Ran software updater and it updated it automatically to 3.11. You'll never get that with Ubuntu.

But are all linux distros using the same commands? or is stuff like apt-get install different?

Like Fedoras Yum. Except from this most, if not all commands are more or less the same, and if they're not, you could just install the version you are used to (Except with package-managers, as these are more or less built around the system.)

Really, the only major thing that sets different distributions apart is the package manager (aside from a few large and mostly small other things).
and i guess that while some distros may use different package managers they can still operate with the same kind of package you know fedora uses RPM packages but manages them with yum suse also uses RPMs but manages them with zypper a lot of the time you will find an rpm packaged for fedora also works in suse or vice-versa
Is it safe to upgrade the kernel on kubuntu from 3.11 to 3.12?
Assuming Canonical didn't do something incredibly stupid with the kernel, and/or your choice of graphics driver is caught up (could be a problem with proprietary AMD/nVidia), it should be OK.
I just fell asleep during compile and now it's 4am, sigh. Oh well, at least I have a nice kernel now.
Canonical pls stahp http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/11/canonical-abused-trademark-law-to-target-a-site-critical-of-ubuntu-privacy/ You make yourself look even worse. [editline]8th November 2013[/editline] Also silly canonical thats not how you DCMA.

I thought bleeding edge software meant that things can be buggy when you update. I learnt that from Arch. Apparently bleeding edge doesn't necessarily come at the cost of stability? Also, yum is a pretty fast package manager. Fedora seems like a fast distro in general. I was surprised that basic things like Nano and xterm weren't installed by default while libreoffice was. That doesn't really matter, though. Today I'll copy my rc.lua from my ubuntu laptop and convert it for the latest version of AwesomeWM.
Grr, too many problems with how Debian is set up, I might have to go Arch.
Installed ubuntu and removed unity and now use cinnamon. It feels much smoother on this laptop than KDE.
I get this error when suspending/lockscreen Package Linux-image 3.11.0-13 generic 3.11.0-13.20 /usr/share/apport/apportcheckresume Faliure Suspend/resume
I get this error when suspending/lockscreen Package Linux-image 3.11.0-13 generic 3.11.0-13.20 /usr/share/apport/apportcheckresume Faliure Suspend/resume
Did you by chance update to Kernel 3.12?
Nope, And it only happens while the ac charger is plugged in.
Nope, And it only happens while the ac charger is plugged in.
A failure to suspend usually means the Linux kernel's drivers for your hardware are broken or your hardware is broken. Though you could try using one of the different various interfaces to initiate a suspend. pm-utils creates a suspend log (/var/log/pm-suspend.log in Arch Linux) which may reveal more information. It explicitly states which hardware its attempting to sleep and if it failed. This will reveal to you which driver or hardware is misbehaving.
Holy christ, Garry's mod is slow as dicks on Fedora. CSS runs on 130FPS with my HD5870. Garry's mod has 10FPS and a huge input delay. When I move my mouse, the player follows after a second. It's retarded. It appeared to slightly better in GNOME, but that shouldn't really make a difference, should it?
Question, how would I go about creating gif's of different terminal commands.

I'm guessing you're using those?
Garry's Mod doesn't seem to run very well when using the open source drivers at least. I'm guessing you're using those?
I had the same issue as he is having before using the catalyst drivers. insane input lag but not too much of a frame loss. I fixed it by enabling tear-free rendering and disabling v-sync in the catalyst settings. [editline]8th November 2013[/editline] also, my new rig is using crossfire now and not single GPU. not sure if it always was like that, but before I got my crossfire setup I had no lag in killing floor (even with the v sync bug or whatever for the catalyst drivers). now it's around 10 fps. I've enabled crossfire obviously. doesn't linux/catalyst offer proper crossfire support or something?
