To be 100% honest ... I'd probably recommend a Macbook pro. Incoming shitstorm, but they were made for Photography and graphic editing.
You got it. Get off the 'mac r4 arts' stint before you hurt yourself. Having 'better and smoother programs' is nothing when the same programs work flawlessly, if not BETTER on a PC of the same monetary value. there's always the argumentative masturbation of how it comes with a few free proprietary programs such as garageband, but who cares. If you're doing anything worthwhile you're not going to tinker around in a freeware program; anything of value towards media creation costs good money, and anything worth high end editing is going to be compatible with both systems in the end because PCs outnumber Macs a GREAT deal, and it would be a foolish move to market a big-name product to a small demographic. As far as ACTUAL usefulness, it's great if you're doing a LOT of video work, somehow. I've read up on it, and it seems to be the recommended choice by pros... who were all probably recommended to by other "pros". Of course, their top of the line model they market to studios STARTS at $3299, and it doesn't compete with my personal desktop, which was half the price. I have 12 sticks of ram instead of 6, two 1TB harddrives instead of a piece of junk 640gb, and everything else about it is just laughable. ...And all this, for what, PHOTOGRAPHY? I can use photoshop CS4 to edit the 12mb RAW files from my D5000 flawlessly using my 6 year old $700 HP laptop. All you need is a nicely calibrated monitor hooked up to it so you can maintain brightness/contrast/colors well for print. The only difference anyone short of some ungodly Adobe CS4 Certified expert who uses everything in every possible way every day of the week would EVER notice is the difference between these two images: [img_thumb]http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc11/ralfy_tm/Programe/adobe_photoshop_cs4_portable.jpg?t=1265934059[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://www.qweas.com/downloads/graphic/editors/scr-adobe-photoshop-cs4-for-mac.jpg[/img_thumb] ...the GUI is slightly different because of the positioning of OSX and Windows' minimize/maximize/close buttons, and the fact that mac has its file menus glued to the top of your screen eternally. "Macs are for artists" is the biggest word-of-mouth lie anyone could ever hope to achieve short of a viral advertising campaign. It's spoken like it's fact, like Macs are some amazing viagra for your creative side, instantly making you more artistic and giving you that edge over your competition. Doesn't matter HOW big your ego gets, if you're doing the missionary before, you're still doing the missionary after, with a bigger piece of equipment, and there's no pill to combat your style... though taking away medication tends to make you jittery, could add a new twist in bed. Where is all this money ending up, anyways? Rolled into tubes and being used to snort crack off thousand dollar hookers' backs at steve jobs's weekend penthouse, that's where. "I like 'em pale and incredibly thin. :smug:" [editline]1:11[/editline] Sorry I missed the thread til now, Misael, been working since your PM. [editline]1:11[/editline] Working with a portion of adobe CS4, no less. Got Encore, Premiere, Photoshop all running, had bridge open along side them earlier, running several instances of word, adobe media encoder is currently compiling a video, got 3ds max's server running with a render going on in the background, and I have yet to see a hiccup. What, exactly, would I need a mac pro for? :raise: [editline]1:11[/editline] hey look, an optimistic rating. If the best retort anyone has for this post is to passive-aggressively say the equivalent of "ur gay", there's nothing to argue, and I resoundingly rest my case. [editline]1:11[/editline] [del]let it be known the optimistic has changed to a disagree as of my previous comment.[/del] It's back.
To be 100% honest, if this is SERIOUS photography, this is a very rare occasion in which I'd probably recommend a Macbook pro. Incoming shitstorm, but they were made for Photography and graphic editing.
Don't be a sucker for marketing. Macs aren't worth the money. By no means am I saying they're shit. Macs are nice, but not worth it.
Don't be a sucker for marketing. Macs aren't worth the money. By no means am I saying they're shit. Macs are nice, but not worth it.
I use a mac for my work, photo, typing, and music work. Its much simpler than using my pc for it.
I use a mac for my work, photo, typing, and music work. Its much simpler than using my pc for it.
how on earth can anything be simpler for typing, you literally press the key and it outputs in said word program, i don't see how it can get any simpler
how on earth can anything be simpler for typing, you literally press the key and it outputs in said word program, i don't see how it can get any simpler
It's not worth fighting over. I'm putting in my opinion.
your opinion is wrong
I use a mac for my work, photo, typing, and music work. Its much simpler than using my pc for it.
how is it much simpler? Save for garageband, which I'm sure there's some shareware equivalent, everything you use has a PC equivalent with nearly the same GUI.
Get Mac for photoshop? If you don't care my incredible laptop (sarcasm incredible) laptop runs cs4 like a beast, almost I can't run anything else though. Just get any old thing and you should be fine.
your opinion is wrong
Cut it with the little squabble. An opinion is voiced as an opinion. That's fine. I'm not sure what makes things easier or simpler, but if he personally prefers one over the other he can say he personally prefers it. I just can't stand the "mac is good for artists" blather that constantly floats around. No OS is better than another for using CS4 to edit crap. OS-Specific programs, if you have a preference, could spell the difference in a choice, but most everything the average and even experienced user will ever need will work fine on both mediums.
I use a mac for my work, photo, typing, and music work. Its much simpler than using my pc for it.
Mac = PC PC = Mac Neither is greater. I'll leave it at that.

Which combined creates an unbiased opinion that thinks no greater of either PCs or Macs for the previously stated tasks. [editline]09:26PM[/editline]
Thank you.
