Do they know what about the firmware was killing the devices? I know with the i9000M on Bell had an issue with the Froyo update way back where it would kill the internal SD.
It's not firmware that causes sudden death, it's a hardware malfunction which they fixed with software.
Turns out that I managed to prevent my Galaxy S3 random-rebooting every hour... by putting it in power saving mode
(turns out they really improved power saving since the S2, now it's just choices for underclocking the CPU, capping the framerate to 30, and disabling haptic)
Apparently Samsung fixed the sudden death for the S3's in the most recent firmware update, except that for some phones, it replaces the sudden death by random reboots out of the ass. My phone got that. :v:
Supposedly it's gonna be entirely fixed with the next update.
fingers crossed, i guessed
Just flash cm10.1 really, much better.

After my random reboots episode with the first Galaxy S2, if I purchased an S3 and this happened to me, I would consider suicide.
I asked this before, and I don't think I got an answer (Sorry if I did)
I can't update my S3 OTA as it's "modified" (rooted and custom kernel)
Is it possible to flash the latest update using Odin or something?
I think this depends on the file. You should check XDA threads regarding the update if someone flashed it as a regular update. Some of these may wipe everything from your device.
Yes
[editline]31st March 2013[/editline]
then you'd have to root again
I've always enjoyed using reddit sync, it seems like the best every time.
Ok, guys, I've got a problem. Super Hexagon He's sound files are starred, meaning they're showing up in Play Music. This is annoying the shit out of me.
The problem is, the stock file explorer can't let me see them to un-star them.
Is there a third party file manager that has this functionality?
I can e the files in Rom Toolboxes Root Explorer, but I can't un-star them.
My roommate has an old HTC Vivid with a broken display (inverter's fucked or something?) and antenna. Worth it to acquire and repair?

Try creating a folder called ".nomedia" (without "") in the Super Hexagon folder and restart your phone. This will tell your music player to skip that folder when searching for music.

Not surprised after they named a simple note taking app "Keep". But I don't care about the name as long as it's a decent app.
Maybe with this people actually would use their Google account to chat instead of everyone telling me to use skype. This also better work with other services like skype including skype calls and video calls.
calls or video calls are unlikely, but an ability to integrate things like Facebook Messenger and/or WhatsApp would be nice.
I'm planning on getting a new phone with a 2 year contract from Verizon, and I only have about $100 to spend on the actual phone. Would the Razr HD be the best choice out of the bunch?
There is also the fact that I'm tempted to get the HTC 8x. Windows Phone 8 looks sexy and I love the 8x's design.
I have the 8X. It's pretty and WP8 is pretty but I want Android on this thing so bad. It's so obvious that WP8 is piss-poor for battery life now because I can't diagnose what's going on but my standby battery drain is like 2% an hour. I haven't changed any of my usage patterns from Android, if anything I've just gotten rid of all the games I play.

What the fuck?
Sure if you want, but jesus christ that will be quite the repair job.

Really? I can't imagine it being that hard.
Looking it up, just looks tedious.
Notification toggles battery indicator is broken for some reason. It never updates even after rebooting.

My Evo 3d and the Vivid have a similar build, and similar hardware. From my experience, after installing Jellybean and overclocking it you are left with a smooth device.
Can't find the battery anywhere so I can't even test to see if it works :F
Oh man, dat heart attack moment when you throw your phone on your bed and it does an unexpected jump towards the edge to stop just short of falling off.
Also, yay for HDR feature in the latest CM 10.1 nightly.

Amazon should have OEM ones.

Yeah, I know. I hope that the phone works at all, it'd kinda suck to buy a new battery for a phone that doesn't work at all. He said he hasn't tried it since he dropped it and the display stopped working.

See if it enumerates when you connect it to the computer.

add that to the list if things I'm not doing with my Nexus 4.

I did the same with my iPod
Hit the bed, bounced, smacked into a wall, hit the floor
Perfectly fine :v:

I am physically incapable of cracking screens
I've dropped ipods face down on concrete and on the corners multiple times, I've dropped a DS and watched it slide down a concrete driveway, and I've knocked laptops off desks. None of them have the tiniest crack in the screen
Scratches however, my iPod screen is fucking covered in deep scratches from being in my pocket, facing away from anything else in it
I've lost count of how many times I've dropped my Galaxy Nexus. I've dropped it a couple of times out of my pocket straight onto the asphalt while riding my bike, its fallen off tables several times, I even think I've taken it out of my pocket and had it slide out of my hand or me just dropping it a couple of times.
The corners are definitely getting scratched a good bit, they're turning black (assuming the paint's coming of?), and the paint has worn of the top of the metal surrounding the camera lens. I'll also add that my last phone, an iPhone 4, has a very cracked screen in the lower right corner... (still sold it for $343, though!)

just in case
i'll probably end up getting a new back because mine is scratched to hell somehow.
I dropped my Nexus 4 as I was getting out the car the other day. Luckily the bumper took all the force on one of the corners and the phone seems to be unharmed. Those darn tiny pockets
have you seen the STOP WEARING SKINNY JEANS YOU GIRL shit that is thrown around /r/android haha
