Not even that. The average consumer says "apple or not apple" when it comes to computers (and mobile, where it's apple, Samsung, or other).
Oh god, so many people asked me to suggest stuff and the first thing they ask is whether it's made by Apple or not.
Our local TV news station advertises their "droid" app in the voice-over. Interestingly, they call it Android in the onscreen text. So they really aren't sure :v:
Ask then why they say their app is Verizon only. They'd be so lost.
A majority of the people I know have rooted/Jailbroken their phones. About 70% of them running android have a custom ROM.
Then again I guess that depends on who you meet.
Absolutely. Most people think "droids" and Android phones are the same thing.
So many people say Droid's are shit when they compare their 3-year-old android phones :\

I had this so many times when I went to school. Everyone having their Galaxy Ys or shitty ass $100> android phones. Then going on about how shit android is, how slow it is etc.
Nerds like us who hang out with other nets like us tend to develop a complex that makes us assume everyone knows something about consumer technology.
The reality is, no one knows anything. We are a minority.

"I just got a G1 on ebay. Holy shit, Droid phones suck!

^the entire android tag on Tumblr.

I am the only one who has rooted my phone besides my friend who bought a Galaxy Nexus in September. Everyone else hasn't rooted yet because they don't care. My tech friends, a few with S3s, one with a Note, one with a Note 2, another Gnexus and some other phones haven't rooted their phones. There's the 1 year warrenty they don't want to break even though it's easy to fix. These are the tech friends too.
Everyone else couldn't care less, they only care about shit like facebook or social media.

BUT CAN IT TELL IF I'M LOOKING AT THE SCREEN
BUT CAN IT TELL IF I'M LOOKING AT THE SCREEN
Most people couldn't care less about that feature, they would press the power button to lock anyways.

It looks like it's exactly the other way around. Judging from the posts on this page, the average consumer is portrayed as having serious mental retardation.
Can we assume that they at least think "Hey it looks the same as the other galaxy, so why would I buy almost the same thing twice?"
With iPhone users the answer is "because Apple and trendy and hip and Steve Jobs"
With Samsung I don't expect that.
I predict S4 sales will be less than S3 sales, or at least less than expected. Mark my words. Future will tell what will happen.
It happens, though. Not knowing the difference between droid and Android isn't mental retardation. It's normal.
Not doing research before you go buy a phone isn't mental retardation, it's normal.
Not knowing a damn thing about this shit is normal, not retarded.
People are brand loyal. It says samsung, people like it, it's new, they buy. That's how it works.
[editline]19th March 2013[/editline]
We talk shit about them because we're among those who do know.
But we don't think they're retarded.
Everyone knows something no one else cares about.
cyanogenmod devs + many more said that they're not doing shit with galaxy s4
just an fyi
They didn't say anything officially.

Even if current Samsung maintainers don't want to have anything to do with the S4 (that's understandable), that doesn't mean there won't be new guys who will work on it.
But if there are, I'll be surprised, since dealing with Exynos is apparently a nightmare.
Maybe Samsung will pull a Sony and actually provide good developer support.
Maybe Samsung will pull a Sony and actually provide good developer support.
Doubt that's gonna happen anytime soon considering how long Samsung has been ignoring developer's requests for sources and documentations

That'll be the day when Samsung can create a appealing looking device.

Finally...

Didn't you hear? Google are supposedly merging all the chat systems in to "Babble". Yeah...
Babble is VERY likely a code word, just like Google Now used to be Project Majel.
And they're merging them since somewhere after 4.1 release, that's when the information was first confirmed.
If it's not happening at Google I/O this year, then I don't believe they'll ever finish it.
