.exe and exefile are not there.
I forgot to mention in Post #13 that after you change you need to unload the hive. (Select HiveName then click file > unload hive.)
If that doesn't work then I'm not too sure how you changed the .exe opening with WinRAR as it's not in the registry.
Indeed. Every good OS lets you name your binaries hueg.penis and still run them.

1KB. More like small.penis.
Go to my computer > Tools (In menubar) > Folder Options > View > Look for your extension
Will upgrading the windows fix it?
Will upgrading the windows fix it?
Like from XP to Vista, Vista to 7?
1KB. More like small.penis.
1024 bytes
now it's longer
if you have ccleaner you might be able to rename it to ccleaner.com instead of ccleaner.exe, and run it like that. delete winrar and run a registry scan, it will probably fix the file type issue then.
God this thread made my brain hurt more than an archiving utility should...

Yeah.
"What should Windows use to open the file iexplore.exe?"
firefox.exe
This is why i back up every week haha.
I used to play around with editing windows themes and accidentally change the explorer.exe file name so i could back it up and it then wouldnt let me change it back or put anything else in there. Therfore whenever windows loaded i just got a black screen. Windows restore and BAM everythings back.
Yeah.
I assume so. I've never upgraded Windows so I don't know if it'll keep the .exe change.
By the way if it's a user-based extension change you could try booting into safe mode and log on to the administrator account (if it shows up) and change it from there.
I am confuse. If exe files are opened with winrar, what is winrar opened with? You would expect it to open winrar with winrar :byodood:
Has this been solved yet? How is the OP replying? How are any programs opening??
Why don't you just format it and reinstall Windows?
He either figured it out or gave up and reformatted.

there's your problem
there's your problem
I'm about 80% sure his problem is that he made .exes open with WinRAR. But I could be wrong.

Trying to open Winrar would be the same as dividing by zero I guess.
Black holes and shit would open up.

It would just execute WinRAR with the parameter to open itself. He changed the what opens exes, not executes them. It'd be the same if you dragged WinRAR.exe into WinRAR or tried to open WinRAR.exe from within.
My, I guess you kinda LostRAR.

Uh...yo dawg?
Here's what could've happened when you tried to open winrar: winrar opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar which opens winrar Etc. and if it ever opened it would crash. or give you an error.

Actually, it'd attempt to load winrar.exe, and it wouldn't be able to.
