295W... a 57% higher TDP seems a little much for only a 10% benchmarking advantage.
who gives a fuck and that's the 512 SP. The 480 is 250.. it's like the GTX 260. first comes the 192, and then the 216.
does TDP even matter when most people have enough amps for fully overclocked 5970 crossfire? answer: no
I was thinking more about the heat output, they said these would be hot but I didn't expect that hot. Anyway it wouldn't stop me from buying one, I'm just wondering where all the heat is coming from.
why does heat matter
Because if the card is really hot to begin with, you can't really overclock much (I think), and if you don't have a case with good airflow the card will have a shorter lifetime (because of the high average temperature). I don't really care about the heat myself, I'll probably get a new fan for it if I buy one.
Flip your case upside down and use the grill on the 480 to cook some nice steaks

I'd buy it just for the looks, but I wont, cuz I got no monies :bang:

I'd say that I'd prefer a clean and sleek black monolith, but those pipes that stick out look awesome, they give it that "evil machinery" feeling.
Phew, the 470 is only 5-10% faster than the 5850 and pricier than when I bought it. Glad I didn't wait for the nvidias.
Phew, the 470 is only 5-10% faster than the 5850 and pricier than when I bought it. Glad I didn't wait for the nvidias.
what are you talking about it's $350 and performs 5-10% better
and then overclock it and...
what are you talking about it's $350 and performs 5-10% better
Which means it'll be over £230 in the UK. I paid £198. [editline]12:31AM[/editline]
and then overclock it and...
v:smile:v
I was thinking more about the heat output, they said these would be hot but I didn't expect that hot. Anyway it wouldn't stop me from buying one, I'm just wondering where all the heat is coming from.
That's why I always buy 3rd-party heatsinks to put on my GPUs. Stock heatsink/fans never seem to do that much and they make too much noise, whereas a good 3rd-party heatsink will often perform MUCH better and be MUCH quieter.
5850 preforms close to a 5870 when overclocked. The 5850 has less shaders.. given the stock clocks are fairly low on the 470, and you have a good enough case, you can try to bring those up to 480 clocks.... in other words, i think it'll be the same deal.
So anyone got an idea of how much 5850/5870's prices will drop once these cards come out?
So anyone got an idea of how much 5850/5870's prices will drop once these cards come out?
probably not at all because stores know there's still enough fantards out there that they can get away with it easily
probably not at all because stores know there's still enough fantards out there that they can get away with it easily
Man you're annoying.
he is annoying but he is right
Its the fan-boys that ruin the pricing and availability for the rest of us, who actually question and compare both ATI and Nvidia in their products and practices, without bias.
I just hope the GTX 480 and 470 stay near their retail prices of $500 and $350. I'm really hoping, assuming independent reviewers confirm nvidia's benchies, to pick up a GTX 480 and upgrade to Core i7 at the same time. -snip- automerge
hmm, very fluid far cry 2 max settings at 2560x1600? that's pretty good
arab? :jihad: Anyway if it's true it's pretty good.
allah fatwa!

Needs more copper.
Needs more copper.
its most likely copper and nickel plated

These benchmarks we've seen so far have me pleased. We'll see after release how much they're actually going to be sold for, though.
-snip- Apparently I seem realllyyy sketchy. Rate me boxes.
These benchmarks we've seen so far have me pleased. TSMC has had huge problems with the 40nm fab process, and I don't think that's completely fixed yet.
